About Pokemon Events
Pokémon Events
Through the Play! Pokémon program, we bring you officially sanctioned Pokémon events. At these events, players get a chance to play against other players for fun and prizes.
We play by the official rules, and abide by Pokémon's Spirit of the Game, which emphasizes:
- FUN
- FAIRNESS
- HONESTY
- RESPECT
- SPORTSMANSHIP
- LEARNING
Our events are open to Pokémon players and fans of all ages. Parents are always welcome as players or spectators.
The Play! Pokémon program encompasses the Pokémon Trading Card Game and Pokémon video games.
Pokémon (TCG) Card Tournaments
The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) is fully supported by The Pokémon Company International (TPCi), a worldwide leader in the trading card game industry. The company supports the game by releasing new expansions (sets) of Pokémon cards and by providing opportunities and support for Pokémon tournaments. The company provides thousands of dollars in prizes year-round. Each series of tournaments offers a different set of prizes, but prizes are offered equally to the three age groups.
Depending on the level of the tournament, prizes may include scholarships and trips/travel allowances. These prizes are available to players of all ages. In fact, our area has produced quite a few young players who have won scholarships and trips -- even players as young as 5-years old! Scholarships may be applied to tuition, books, fees, supplies and equipment required for instruction at accredited educational institutions.
To participate in a Pokémon card tournament, players bring their own 60-card decks to battle with. Deck must conform to the current format and rules. At some events, loaner decks are available for player use.
Pokémon Video Game Tournaments
With the recent integration of the Pokémon video game events into TPCi's organized play program, we will be holding more local events involving Pokémon video games. Depending on the level of the event, prizes may be available.
To participate in a Pokémon video game event, players bring their own Nintendo DS system, and the appropriate Pokémon game cartridge. The game cartridge and contents must conform to the event's format and rules.
