One of the major additions to gen 2 of Pokemon are a bunch of new evolutions for classic lines of Pokemon from the Pokemon red/blue/yellow generation. These are consumables that can allow you to not only fill out your Pokedex, but also unlock some impressively powerful creatures.
One such item, Dragon Scale, can evolve Seadra into Kingdra, and others too, so it’s worth grabbing one.

How To Evolve Seadra Into Kingdra In Pokmon Go
Seadra’s evolution into Kingra back in the main series of Pokémon involved a somewhat convoluted process. Not only did you need to find yourself a Dragon Scale for the evolution, you also needed to find yourself a trading partner, because Seadra had to be traded whilst holding the item in order to evolve.
Now, in Pokémon Go, things are a tad easier. You’ll still need a decent chunk of Candy to evolve Seadra, but there’s no need for the trading partner – you simply need to get your hands on a Dragon Scale and evolve your Seadra from the same in-game menu as you would any other Candy-based evolution.

Use Items To Get The Final Evolution Of Pokemon
In some cases, Pokemon do not reach their final evolutions unless a special item is used on them. There are several Pokemon whose final evolutions can be achieved by using the special items found in the game.

Note that you do not just need the special evolution items within the game, but will also need some candy to evolve your Pokemon! Keep this in mind, and hunt for more candies by catching & transferring Pokemon!
Pokemon Go Unova Stones: How To Get One

Much like the Sinnoh Stone, you can get a Pokemon Go Unova Stone by completing seven days’ worth of field research. Those are the tasks you get from spinning Pokestops complete one each day until you’ve filled in all the stamps, then claim your reward and there’s a chance you might get an Unova Stone. Essentially, you need to cross your fingers and hope you’ve appeased the Pokemon Go RNGesus recently.
There’s a chance that you’ll be able to get Unova Stones from PvP battles later down the line but for now, that’s not possible.

How To Get A Dragon Scale
Getting a Dragon Scale in Pokemon Go is where things get difficult – it’s even harder, in fact, than getting together 100 Horsea Candy since you can now use the buddy Pokemon system to earn yourself extra candy as you walk around.
Getting the Dragon Scale isn’t so easy, especially since Pokemon Go doesn’t have it available as an easy-to-buy item from a shop or as a reward from an NPC like the main games. Instead it’s all down to luck: Dragon Scales drop at random from Pokestops.
There is a little twist to this, however. In order to guarantee an evolution stone drop you need to keep up your Pokestop Daily Bonus Streak – swipe a Pokestop every day and your streak will continue, and on the seventh day you’ll definitely get an Evolution item.
There are admittedly a number of these such as the Sun Stone, King’s Rock, Metal Coat and so on. On this you can only cross your fingers and hope you get lucky and get the Dragon Scale – but honestly, all of these items are useful for evolving to Pokemon such as Bellossom, Slowking and Scizor among others.
Hold on to any evolution stones you pick up even if you don’t or can’t use them right away – they’re rare, and they’re worth spending some inventory space on.
What Are The Evolution Items
Before Gen 2 was released, all you needed to evolve a pocket monster was collect enough candies. Now, for some special Pokemon, you need to collect the candies and an evolution item.
Here are the evolution items and how to identify them:
- Sun stone is a red-and-orange rock with points sticking out of the sides.
- King’s rock looks like a yellow castle with broken walls.
- Metal coat looks like two silver, round batteries stacked on top of each other.
- Dragon scale is an oval with blue and yellow markings.
- Upgrade item looks kind of like a long, yellow taser.

Pokemon Go Wiki Guide
The Dragon Scale is one of the new Evolution Items that can be used in conjunction with Pokemon Candy to evolve some of the Gen 1 Pokemon to new Gen 2 evolutions.
Initially there were rumors indicating that Evolution Items were guaranteed rewards for 7-day Pokestop streaks, but that has been discredited. Evolution items are incredibly rare and have less than a 1% chance of being found at Pokestops.
However, as of an app update in late March 2017 you are now guaranteed an Evolution Item for a 7-day Pokestop streak.
Currently, the applicable Pokemon for this item is Seadra, who can be evolved into Kingdra using a Dragon Scale and 100 Horsea Pokemon Candy.
Pokemon Go Unova Stones: Who To Evolve
There’s a bunch of new Pokemon in the game now, but there’s only a few specific ones that will evolve with a Pokemon Go Unova Stone:
- Pansage evolves into Simisage with an Unova Stone and 100 candy
- Panpour evolves into Simipour with an Unova Stone and 100 candy
- Pansear evolves into Simisear with an Unova Stone and 100 candy
- Lampent evolves into Chandelure with an Unova Stone and 100 candy
- Minccino evolves into Cinccino with an Unova Stone and 100 candy
- Eelektrik evolves into Eelektross with an Unova Stone and 100 candy
- Munna evolves into Musharna with an Unova Stone and 50 candy

The good news is that you can only use your Dragon Scale on one specific Pokemon but youre going to want to take a trip to the seaside or your nearest river. Combo up the Dragon Scale with 100 Horsea candies to evolve Seadra into Kingdra.

How To Get Dragon Scales In Pokemon Go
A Dragon Scale is an item in Pokémon GO that can be used with Pokémon candy to evolve Gen 1 Pokémon to Gen 2 Pokémon evolutions. In previous games, Dragon Scales could be held in battle to make dragon-type moves more powerful. In Pokémon GO, The Dragon Scale can be used to evolve a Seadra into Kingdra.
Evolution items are very rare in Pokémon GO and only have a 1% chance to be rewarded to Pokémon trainers at Pokéstops. But now, evolution items can also be rewarded to Pokemon trainers who have completed a seven day Pokéstop streak. This means that if all evolution items have an equal chance of being rewarded, Pokemon trainers have a one-in-nine chance of earning a Dragon Scale once a week if they use a Pokéstop once a day. They can also be received as a gift, or earned by completing part six of the special research A Ripple in Time.
Stock up on Pokéballs at a Pokéstop and raise the odds of catching a Seadra by traveling to a body of water. Once a Seadra is caught, collect 100 horsea candies and use the Dragon Scale to evolve the Seadra into a much stronger Kingdra. Three candies can be earned each time a Horsea is caught, and bonus candy can be earned by using berries while catching Horseas or in the gym. It can also be earned by walking with a Horsea Buddy Pokemon, hatching eggs, or transferring Pokémon. Compared to Seadra, Kingdra gains a dragon type and is the final evolution of Horsea.

How The New Evolution Items Work In ‘pokmon Go’

Evolution got a bit more complicated in Pokémon GO last night. Originally it was a pretty straightforward affair: you got candy for catching, walking and transferring Pokémon, which you then used to turn your Squirtles into Wartortles, your Bellsprouts into Weepinbells and so on. For the most part, that’s still how it works after the big Gen 2 update, except for a few noteworthy exceptions. Certain Pokémon now require either a steel coat, a sun stone, a king’s rock, a dragon scale or an upgrade to evolve, and these items are all random drops from Pokéstops. Let’s break them down:
- The metal coat transforms Onix into Steelix or Scyther into Scizor.
- The king’s rock transforms Slowpoke into Slowking or Poliwhirl into Politoed.
- The dragon’s scale transforms Seadra into Kingdra.
- The sun stone transforms Gloom into Bellossom or Sunkern into Sunflora.
- The upgrade transforms Porygon into Porygon2.
Note that in many of these instances the items are used for branching evolution: you’ll still be able to evolve Slowpoke into Slowbro using plain old candy, but you’ll need the king’s rock as well as the candy to get yourself a Slowking. This will slow down some people that had been stockpiling candy for the purpose of filling out their Pokédex as quickly as possible: I’ve got plenty of Onix candy but still no metal coat to snag my Steelix.
Pokemon Go Unova Stone: How To Get One And Which Pokemon Can Evolve
Pokemon Go Unova Stones are one of the evolution items features in Pokemon Go. They’re specifically used to evolve certain Gen 5 Pokemon, and work almost identically to Pokemon Go Sinnoh Stones. If your goal is to complete the Pokedex in Pokemon Go and collect some of the strongest Pokemon in the game, you’ll need to know exactly how Pokemon Go Unova Stones work.

Other Special Cases For Evolution In Pokmon Go
While most Pokémon evolve with Candy and a possible Evoluton Item, there are some other Pokémon who evolve a little differently.

Evolution methods for unreleased Pokémon, including Sylveon, Tyrunt, Amaura, and Inky, are based on datamining and subject to change.
How To Evolve A Seadra To A Kingdra In Pokmon Go
To get a Kingdra in the main series Pokémon games, you had to go through a somewhat laborious process. In addition to having to find a Dragon Scale, you had to find a friend or someone who was willing to trade a Seadra with you while that Pokémon holds a Dragon Scale.
On the other hand, this process is a little simpler in Pokémon Go. You still need a considerable amount of Candy, but after obtaining these items you only have to find a Dragon Scale, and then you evolve Seadra normally, just as you would with other Pokémon that evolve through Candy.

What Do Evolution Items Do In Pokemon Go
If youve spun a Pokestop for the seventh day in a row or finished your weekly research breakthrough task and found a brand new shiny thing youve never seen before, you can say hello to your first Pokemon Go evolution item. You might even have a few you dont know you have, so pop into your items list and have a quick scroll.
Evolution items were introduced with the Gen 2 update all the way back in 2017 and mean a whole stack of new mon via evolution if you hoard your candy just right. So far, weve only got one fourth generation item, the Sinnoh Stone, but youre going to need it for a stack of 4th generation Pokemon evolutions. More on that below but the current evolution items are as follows:
- Dragon Scale
- Mossy Lure
- Glacial Lure
Each one can be used to evolve one of your existing Pokemon into a new evolution. Below are each of the ways you can use evolution items.

You can also get them in gifts, although this is again quite a slim chance. Alternatively Completing the special research line, A Ripple in Time, will earn you one.
Pokemon GO Dragon Scale Only Used For One Pokemon
Interestingly, this special evolutionary item is only used with one evolution. If you want to use a Dragon Scale, youll need a Seadra. Seadra evolves from Horsea, but you might be able to catch one if youre lucky.
When you do, youll need to combine the Dragon Scale with 100 Horsea Candies if you want to evolve Seadra into a Kingdra. You earn these candies in the traditional way Either you catch lots of Horsea with berries or you walk around with a Horsea as your Buddy Pokemon. You can also transfer spare Horsea to the Professor for candies Yknow, because youll probably have quite a few spare. Just make sure you check stats and appraise before you decide which Seadra to evolve!
