Have Yamask Take 49+ Health Damage

Now that you have a Yamask, equip it and fight other Pokemon. The goal here is to have Yamask take at least 49 health damage from an enemy Pokemon. To do this I recommend fighting Pokemon at or below its level. Keep in mind you do not want Yamask to faint. You just need it to lose 49 health. Once this happens its onto the next step.

How to Evolve Yamask in Pokemon Sword and Shield

Several Pokémon have received new Galarian forms in Pokémon Sword and Shield, and other Pokémon have received new, weirder evolution methods. One Pokémon, Galarian Yamask, has both. Galarian Yamask is a somewhat spookier version of its Unovan cousin, and it has an extremely unusual evolution method that requires it to get hurt in battle and then travel to a specific location. It’s not obvious at all, so here’s everything you need to do to evolve your Galarian Yamask in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Focus Sash + Pok Doll

Assuming the player already has a Galarian Yamask in their possession, what theyll need to make this process as easy as possible are a Focus Sash and a Poké Doll. Some may already see where this is going, but for others, heres how it goes:

  • Take your Focus Sash and equip it to Galarian Yamask. This ensures that if its at full health, a potential one-hit KO will not occur.
  • Face off against a pokémon of a much higher level. Yamask found in the wild range between levels 29 and 33, so take it to a part of the Wild Area where the pokémons levels shoot past 40. Ensure that the weather does not damage it in the case the opponent does not attack in its first turn, or the Focus Sash wont work.
  • Your Yamask needs to have 49+ damage taken in one hit*, which is why the Focus Sash is so important. The HP range of a level 30 Yamask blurs between 60 and 80, so trying to gauge how much damage an opponent does without the Focus Sash becomes cumbersome. If successful and you survive with 1 HP remaining, use the Poké Doll to escape from battle.

Taking 49 Points Of Damage

Fight Lower Leveled Pokemon

Make sure to only make your Yamask is fighting enemies that are lower than its current level. This is to prevent your Pokemon from fainting against a single hit during a fight!

Damage Must Come From Enemies

The damage that Yamask receives must come from enemies. Lowering Yamask using other means such as the move “Curse” will not work.

Evolution Cases

– Has taken 49 damage and recovered at Pokemon Center- Took 5 damage. Recovered at a Pokemon Center, then took another 44 damage
Will Not Evolve
– Took 49 damage but fainted- Used move “Curse” and took 49 damage this way- Took 49 damage, then fainted. Recovered at Pokemon Center and took less than 49 damage

LikeGalarian Yamask, Runerigus is a ground ghost-type Pokémon. The Grudge Pokémonis weak against water, grass, ice, ghost, and dark-type attacks.

Runerigusis, however, immune to fighting, electric, and normal-type moves, while bug, rock, and especially poison-type moves arent very effective against the Pokémon.

The groundghost-type Pokémon boasts a very high base defence stat line as well as strongattack and special defence stats. However, Runerigus base special attack, speed, and HP are rather low. So, stick to its learned attacks like Shadow Claw,Brutal Swing, Slam, and Earthquake.
