Playing with your Buddy in Pokémon Go is an easy thing to do. First, youll have to select which Pokémon will be your Buddy. Dont worry about this too much you can change your Buddy up to 20 times each day. If its your first time using the Buddy system, tap on your Trainers picture at the bottom of the screen. Then, navigate to the Buddy menu. Here, the game will walk you through the basics of the Buddy Adventure mechanics.

If youre looking to change your Buddy, its even easier. Simply tap on your Buddys image at the bottom of the screen, then scroll through the menu and press Swap Buddies. Youll be asked to confirm your selection, then your new Buddy will appear on the screen.

How Much Candy Do You Get For Walking A Buddy Pokmon

Buddy candy is based on distance. Some Pokémon require you to walk 1 KM, others 3 KM or 5 KM to earn a candy. The distances are roughly but not exactly related to the distance of the Pokémon Eggs they hatch from 2 KM hatches tend to get a candy every 1 KM, 5 KM hatches every 3 KM, and 10 KM hatches every 10 KM, though there are some exceptions.

Heres how walking a Buddy Pokémon compares to other methods for getting Candy in Pokémon Go:

• 1 Candy per Buddy distance walked.
• 1 Candy per Pokémon transferred to the Professor.
• 3 Candies per base-level Pokémon caught in the wild.
• 6 Candies per base-level Pokémon caught in the wild while using a Pinap Berry.
• 5 Candies per second-level Pokémon caught in the wild.
• 10 Candies per second-level Pokémon caught in the wild while using a Pinap Berry.

Again, walking a Buddy Pokémon isnt a fast way to get a lot of Candy but its a consistent way to get a steady stream of Candy.

Earning Candy With Your Buddy

Making a Pokemon your buddy means that you earn candy for that particular Pokemon type every time you walk a certain distance. For example, if you were walking with Grotle, you’d be earning Turtwig candy. The rarer a Pokemon is, the longer you need to walk to earn one candy.

• 1 kilometre = 1 candy
• 3 kilometres =1 candy
• 5 kilometres = 1 candy
• 20 kilometres = 1 candy

There are two small exceptions to these rules:

• If the player is level 40 or higher, there’s a chance that their buddy will find a candy XL instead of the regular kind
• Buddy Pokemon can be “excited”and when they are, their usual distance requirement is halved

Candy is used to evolve and power up your Pokemon it can be earned in a number of ways, from simply catching Pokemon to trading them with your friends. Its important to interact with your Buddy every day, both to keep their mood up and to quickly climb the ranks to Best Buddy. Activities reset daily, meaning there should always be something new for you to tackle. Plus, you can change your Buddy 20 times a day, and each Buddy has their own unique list of activities. Becoming Best Buddies with your favorite Pokémon isnt easily achieved, but playing with them on a regular basis is a good place to start.

Engaging in Activities allows a temporary increase of Buddy Pokémon’s mood and rewards Affection Hearts. The Today’s Activities in the Buddy profile screen lists each way to interact with Buddy. Each time trainers engage in a listed activity with their buddy, the hearts will turn from gray to pink, indicating a heart was earned in that category.

Doubled Affection Hearts

When Buddy’s Mood is Excited, the Affection Hearts that could be earned are doubled, except for the Bonus category. Extra earned Affection Hearts remain even if the Buddy is no longer excited.

How To Interact And Play With Your Buddy

Now that youve selected a Buddy, youre able to interact with them in a variety of ways. The first thing youll want to do is feed them once theyre full, they can join you on the Map. To feed your Buddy, follow these easy steps:

• Select an open location in your surroundings to make an AR version of your Buddy appear. If youre a bit cramped for space, you can click the Quick Treat button to forgo your phones AR abilities.
• Finally, select a treat for your Buddy and throw it toward its mouth the same way youd throw a Poké Ball at a wild Pokémon. You can monitor its hunger level at the top of the screen, and once its full it will join you on the Map.

Trainers can also play with their Buddy by selecting the Play button after clicking on the Pokémons portrait. Once youve found some space in your surroundings to release your AR Buddy, simply rub the screen to play with them. Youll know it worked properly if you get a reaction from the Pokémon the Play Together option should also display a red heart back on the Buddy menu.

How Do U Play With Your Buddy On Pokemon Go

How To Get Your Buddy Excited

Heres how to get your Buddy excited:

• You will need 32 Points per day to reach Excited mood for your Buddy
• Each Activity you do has a 30 minute cooldown, except Walk 2 KM per day
• You need to do these activities three times per day, as you can earn 14 Points from completing all of them

Here are the activities you can do to get to Excited Mood:

• Visit a new location
• Take a Snapshot of the Buddy
• Open a Souvenir / Present
• Visit a Location highlighted by your Buddy

Which Buddy Pokmon Should You Walk

It depends on what you need.

If you need candy, you should continue to walk with Pokémon that you need candy for. If youre low on Larvitar candy and youre trying to power up your Tyranitar, consider walking with it a bit.

Another option is to walk with Pokémon that you want the Best Buddy CP bonus on. Set a good attacker like Chandelure as your buddy and rake in both candy and a power boost once you hit the highest friendship level.

The last option is just to walk with whatever Pokémon you like. If you think Ferroseeds rolling animation is funny, use that. If you cant stand to be apart from your Shiny Bulbasaur, thats fine, too. Live your truth!

Earning Affection hearts allows Trainer to progress toward improving their Buddy Level. Similarly to Friendship Levels, each Buddy Level unlocks special perks.

Unlike Buddys Mood, Buddy Levels do not decrease over time, much like Friendship Levels.

Following perks are available for Good Buddy level.

Adventuring Buddy

Buddy will appear on the Map when it is fed enough and their hunger meter is full. While on the Map, buddy will earn Candy at a reduced walking distance.

Readable Mood

An excited Wailord

Interacting with Buddy improves their Mood. It decreases over time. Swapping buddies reset it back to Normal. Excited is the most positive mood, which doubles the Affection Hearts that could be earned and the candy walking distance is halved when excited.

Once Buddy achieves Good Buddy level, the Mood indicator appears on the Buddy Profile screen. If Buddy is on the map, Trainer can also tap their buddy to see its Mood.

When in Adventure mode, performing activities with Buddies increases their mood. The highest level mood, ‘excited’ can also give you benefits for a limited time.

When your buddy is ‘excited’ – as indicated by a cheering icon surrounded by Hearts – then you’ll receive the following benefits:

• Candy distances will be halved
• Your daily Heart cap increases to 20

Getting a Pokémon excited, then, has its perks. To get it excited, there are two methods:

To make a Pokemon ‘excited’, you can either:

• Use Poffin – a shop-only item you can purchase from the shop for 100 Coins – which also fills all feeding heart meters for the day
• Perform enough actions to reach a certain threshold

How To Play With Your Buddy

This is one of those things that seems very simple but once you try it out you run into odd roadblocks. In short, to play with your buddy all you need to do is tap the buddy window in the bottom right of the main screen. This will bring up the Buddy menu where you will see a big Play button at the top. Tap this to load into the AR buddy experience where you should see your buddy standing before you .

Once you see your buddy in front of you just start swiping the screen on them. If youre doing it right then youll see very small sparkles appear where you swipe and your buddy Pokémon will react in some way. You need to do this for a few seconds for it to count, so as long as you see the sparkles and your buddy reacting just keep swiping back and forth or around the screen. After a couple of seconds your buddy Pokémon will smile and bounce a little which marks a play.
