The Premium Collection Hype
Champion’s Path is the 4th in a series of yearly mini-sets that began in 2017 with Shining Legends, followed by Dragon Majesty in 2018 and Hidden Fates in 2019. The mini-sets fall in between the standard summer and fall expansions and, as you would expect, have far fewer cards in them that the standard expansion. Mini-sets are not sold as individual packs, but rather are sold exclusively in unique collections that typically include extra collectibles like pins and figurines. These sets also have Elite Trainer Boxes, common to all sets, but instead of the normal eight packs, they come with 10 packs and a full-art or alternate art promo card.
THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY
These mini-sets are highly sought after by collectors because of their premium price and limited availability, which typically means the cards are more valuable and rarer than cards from normal sets. What’s more, mini-sets have historically contained secret rares that dominate the collector market and sell for outrageous prices, such as the Shiny Charizard from Hidden Fates.
Quick Spoiler Below!
I have to mention the holographic energy cards, which will sometimes replace the reverse rare. I love these, I was shocked when I pulled one and I’ll always be happy to find a holo energy. Great surprise!
Champions Path Special Pin Collections
The remaining two gym leaders are the version exclusive ones that switch depending on if youre playing Sword or Shield.
Bea and Allister from the Stow-on-Side Gym and Gordie and Melony from Circhester Gym make up the two different versions. These will come withChampions Path booster packs and the pins and foil cards for each of the gym leaders.
The Special Pin Collections will be dropping on Oct. 2.

Premium Sets Are Highly Collectible
First and foremost, Champions Path is the latest in a series of other premium expansion sets, such as Hidden Fates, Dragon Majesty, and Shining Legends. All of these sets were in-demand upon release and are now hard to acquire, as they were only released for a limited period of time and in fewer quantity than standard sets.
In addition to this, booster packs for premium sets cannot be bought individually. They can only be found in sealed Pokémon products, such as Pin Collections or Elite Trainer Boxes. The difficulty of obtaining cards from these sets has pushed each cards value upwards and now you can only find the high-value cards at unusually high prices on the secondary market.
Knowing this, players and collectors have wasted little time trying to acquire Champions Path products, helping this set sell out almost everywhere in less than a week and making it one of the fastest-selling expansion sets ever!
A Fine Journey Through Galar
It’s difficult to avoid comparing Champion’s Path to last year’s Hidden Fates. It’s not really fair to either, considering Hidden Fates is widely considered one of the best expansions of all time. That set is still a hot commodity, and when Hidden Fates products pop up on occasion at retailers there’s practically a stampede to the checkout. Champion’s Path doesn’t strike me as a set with the same level of staying power, and I’m not entirely certain why Champion’s Path wasn’t designed to be Hidden Fates 2, considering the former’s success.
On the other hand, Champion’s Path takes a bold new direction that I really appreciate. The amount of Pokémon TCG product on store shelves can be overwhelming, especially for would-be gift buyers, but Champion’s Path makes every box unique and purposeful. I like that aspect of it a lot.
There’s something a bit cynical about taking Rainbow Charizard VMAX, a secret rare variant of the Charizard VMAX from Darkness Ablaze, and sticking it in a premium collection. Why not stuff Champion’s path with Galar League trainer Pokémon like Marnie’s Grimmsnarl and Raihan’s Flygon? It certainly would have fit the theme better and been more rewarding than hunting a Charizard for the umpteenth time.
Champion’s Path is just shy of greatness, but still, a worthy mini-set that has the strongest theme of any modern expansion.

Pokemon Tcg Champions Path Release Dates Pins And Vmax
A new Pokemon TCG Sword & Shield expansion was revealed today with the name Champions Path! This expansion will be released on September 25, 2020 with a unique new feature. This next release was announced to roll with various pins featuring Gum logos as well as foil cards representing the partner Pokemon of each Gym Leader. This reflects the Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield experience, in card form!
Much in the tradition of releasing a new Pokemon TV series when a new Pokemon game is released by Nintendo, The Pokemon Company released Sword and Shield cards for the card game when Sword and Shield games were released for Nintendo Switch. Now The Pokemon Company is taking things up a notch, releasing a system that mirrors gameplay elements in addition to game content.
11 new Pokemon V
Piers Spikemuth Gym Raihans Hammerlocke Gym
Therell also be an October 2, 2020 release of a Champions Path Special Pin Collection in two iterations: Stow-on-Side Gym Circhester Gym
Each of the two Champions Path Special Pin Collection packages will include pins featuring each Gyms two logos and two foil cards showcasing the partner Pokemon of both Gym Leaders.
The Pokmon Trainer Fantasy
I can’t help but be enchanted by Champion’s Paths theme, however, and I really hope to see these ideas expanded upon in future sets. I think the staggered release schedule and product variety for this expansion is well designed: There are three gym badges available today then next week two double-gym badge boxes will release two Sword exclusive badges and two Shield exclusive badges then the final three gym badges will be available in November just before the next set, Vivid Voltage. There’s also a special Marnie box and a Hatterene V box in October.
I’m definitely heading back for more when the next pin collection becomes available. Yes, I’m happy to hunt for rare ‘Zards, but I’m also delighted to have the opportunity to complete a collection of pins. When it comes to pin boxes I usually only go for it if it’s a Pokémon I like, as the per pack value is typically lower for pin boxes, but in this case, they’ve convinced me to buy every pin collection that becomes available and I’m happy to do it. The theme of this set is so strong and I’m looking forward to more sets that use these ideas down the road.

Shiny Suspicious Food Tin
Somethings off about this tin of food, but it looks great.
It might not look like much, but this Trainer Card featuring a strange-looking tin of food is a pretty nice card to get, if you pull the shiny version. If you run a Psychic-type deck, having this additional boost of healing can pay off if youre in a pinch. On the other hand, if Psychic-type isnt your bag, this wont be strategically useful. This card is currently worth about the same as a couple of booster packs, making it worthwhile if youre looking to invest back into more cards.
Pokemon Tcg Gets New Charizard Card
The TCG is getting expanded in a massive way on September 25, as according to The Pokemon Company, Champions Path will include 15 awesome Pokemon V and 3 gigantic Pokemon VMAX and 19 Trainer cards.
Outlet PokeGuardian reports that the expansion will also be getting an Elite Trainer Box which will include a new full art V Charizard card. The new limited set item will cost $49.99 at most retail outlets.
According to the publication, the box will include 10 booster packs, the full art Charizard V promo, and 65 card sleeves which will feature the Fire-types epic Gigantamax form.
Champions Path will also include Pin Collection boxes based on each Gym Leader in Sword & Shield and will retail for $14.99. On top of including three booster packs, the sets will feature a collectible pin in the shape of the Gyms badge.
Since the Gen VIII game had exclusive Leaders to each version, a collectors box based on the city Stow-On-Side will sell for $24.99. The set will include five booster packs, and have two sets of pins for both Trainers.
Popular Pokemon outlet Serebii uploaded more photos of the Gym-based boxes to Twitter. The tweet features sets for Motostoke, Turfield, and Hulbury.
