Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl preorders aren’t particularly complicated, but there are a few things to know before you lock in your purchase. You can always trade with another player to obtain these Pokemon, but it’s part of why some people opt to preorder the Double Pack, which bundles both Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl for $120. Pokémon Diamond Version and Pokémon Pearl Version are 2006 role-playing video games developed by Game Freak, published by The Pokémon Company and Nintendo for the Nintendo DS. They are the first installments in the fourth generation of the Pokémon video game series. They were first released in Japan on 28 September 2006, and released in North America, Australia, and Europe in 2007. Pokémon Platinum, an updated version, was released two years later in each region. Remakes titled Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were released for the Nintendo Switch on 19 November 2021. A prequel, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, will be released for the Switch on 28 January 2022.

Development of Diamond and Pearl was announced at a Nintendo press conference in the fourth calendar quarter of 2004. The games were designed with features of the Nintendo DS in mind. It was forecasted to be released in Japan in 2005, but ultimately shipped in 2006, the 10th anniversary year of the franchise. In promotion of the games, Nintendo sold a limited-edition Nintendo DS Lite in Japan, and held a release party celebrating their North American release.

Will There Be More Fire

One of the most bemoaned things from Diamond & Pearl was the extremely notable lack of Fire-types available to the player. It’s become a running joke at this point, but those playing through the games will still have to deal with the problem.

If you don’t choose Chimchar as your Starter, the only Fire-types available to you before defeating the Champion are Ponyta and its evolution, Rapidash. Even Heat Form Rotom wasn’t an option Rotom’s forms were introduced in Platinum, and were all Electric/Ghost-types until Gen V changed them to have individual secondary typing.

RELATED: Hopefully Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Have More Than Two Fire Types

Sure, you don’t need a Fire-type, but the sheer lack of them was noticeable and can be a bit of an issue. Three Gym Leaders Gardenia, Byron, and Candice and an Elite Four member Aron run Pokemon that are weak to Fire. Of course, they have other weaknesses, but it’s a significant hurdle to manage your team around when one type could cover all four.

Platinum fixed this issue by adding Magmar as an obtainable Pokemon before the Elite Four, but since these remakes will be based on Diamond & Pearl, not Platinum, it’s unknown to the general fandom whether the same issue will be present.

When Can Fans Buy Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

The latest news regarding Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl‘s release comes from the official Pokémon Twitter account, which confirmed the date November 19, 2021 as the release dates for the upcoming titles. It also linked to the official Pokémon site, where both games are currently available for fans to preorder. Along with the standard releases is the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Double Pack, which includes both games for players who are aiming to experience the potential differences between titles. All three of these options are available to purchase exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

Other upcoming Pokémon releases for the Nintendo Switch include Pokémon Legends Arceus, which also takes players back to the Sinnoh region in an all-new open world adventure set in an era of the distant past. The game aims to honor the past gameplay elements of the Pokémon series while infusing new action and RPG elements to provide players with a new and innovative experience in the world of Pokémon. Fans who are simply looking for a return to familiar nostalgia, however, can anticipate the November release of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Traversal mechanics like ramps players can slide down on their bikes and deep mud that traps players will return from the originals, as will Sinnoh’s gyms.

It also revealed a variety of returning mechanics, like stickers for Poké Balls, Contests and the Underground, as well as major characters and story elements. Notably, the trailer reveals some new features, like Pokémon following in the overworld, character customization options and certain places were Pokémon appear in the overworld — though the game looks to return to the original’s random encounters.

Gen 4 Remakes Pokmon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Officially Revealed

Nintendo today announced the Pokémon gen 4 remakes, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Released in 2007 on the DS, the fourth generation of Pokémon ushered in several game changing features. Diamond and Pearl were the first entries to allow players to battle and trade online. They also marked Nintendo and Game Freaks first foray into a pseudo-3D art style. While the games were ultimately knocked for their pacing and slow battles, Pokémon Platinum eventually fixed them. Now, its Diamond and Pearls turn for a remake.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearly are faithful remakes of the DS games. Pokémon Home developer ILCA is handling development with the intention of preserving the core Diamond and Pearl experience. Unlike FireRed and LeafGreen, HeartGold and SoulSilver, or Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, it appears that there will be no alterations to the story, locations, or content. All three previous remakes featured minor to heavy alterations to the games story, locations, and art styles.

Much like the originals, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl feature a chibi art style with the same pseudo-3D effect in the overworld. When in battle, the art style shifts to a style more reminiscent of Sword and Shield. It remains unknown what quality-of-life improvements Sword and Shield introduced to the franchise will be implemented, nor do we know what elements from Platinum will make it into the game.

Gen 4 Remakes Release Date Announced

In the odd line of Nintendo awkwardly revealing releases or release dates on Twitter before anywhere else, the same thing occurred this morning with the reveal of the Gen 4 remakes release date! The two will be launching worldwide on November 19th, 2021 with a pack containing both titles releasing on the same day.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl to the uninitiated are the long awaited Sinnoh or Gen 4 remakes that fans have been requesting ad infinitum since the release of the Gen 3 remakes back on the 3DS. The two will be launching on the Switch later this year with the next main game: Pokemon Legends Arceus, releasing in early 2022.

These are the first main games in the series to be developed not by GameFreak, but ILCA, a developer who helped out with titles such as Nier Automata in the past. Additionally, in the reveal, it was stated these two games were made to stay as close to the originals as possible. This is certainly a worrying statement to some who felt the original Diamond and Pearl were lacking, or even those who wanted a more complete overhaul similar to the Gen 1-3 remakes.

Regardless, news of the Gen 4 remakes release date will come as a rather sudden, yet welcome surprise to fans of the series who now have a date to mark on their calendars for another Pokemon journey!

Some users have criticized the new chibi art style, and mentioned that it is something of a deviation from what were used to seeing in Pokemon, whilst others have complemented the change in direction and applauded the new approach to the series.

Despite releasing on Nintendo Switch, these games look and play like a DS game, as opposed to the more recent Lets Go Pikachu and Eevee.

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are games that many Pokemon fans old dear, and many were worried that the games would be remade as Lets Go games, not that itd necessarily be a bad thing.

In addition to compatibility with each other, Diamond and Pearl offer compatibility with the third generation Pokémon games, Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed and LeafGreen, Pokémon Ranger, and Pokémon Battle Revolution. After earning the National Pokédex in Diamond and Pearl, the player can “Migrate” Pokémon from the Game Boy Advance games to Diamond and Pearl by inserting a Game Boy Advance cartridge into the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot of the Nintendo DS while Diamond or Pearl is in the DS slot. Pokémon uploads are restricted to six every twenty-four hours per Game Boy Advance cartridge, and the player must capture the uploaded Pokémon before performing another transfer. Pokmon Presents Reveals Character Customisation And Hideaways

The Pokémon Presents livestream, which you can watch in full below, revealed that a few new additions will be coming to the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes.

You can read the full rundown of new features for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl in our guide, but if you’re a fan of the Underground, character customisation, and Pokémon appearing in the overworld , then you’re in luck.

What We Know About Pokmon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl

Perhaps the most notable change present in these remakes is a meta one: Game Freak itself is not working on Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Instead, ILCA Inc. has been tasked with development. This outsourcing is significant. Not only does it free up Game Freak to work on projects such as Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it also may suggest why these remakes are more of a one-to-on recreation than a reimagining.

As for changes to the games themselves, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will include some features not included in the originals, which mainly involve aesthetic changes. One of these is Pokémon following the player, which was originally only available for certain Pokémon deemed cute enough to walk around Amity Square. That area will return, now allowing players to stroll with up to six Pokémon — so long as they are cute enough to be let into the park.

Additionally, the original game’s Seals have been renamed Stickers, though these seem to work the same way. Players will be able to customize the protagonist’s clothing — something that wasn’t included in the Hoenn remakes despite customization debuting that generation.
