Pokemon X And Y New Pokemon

Pokemon X And Y Is The Revival The Series Has Been Waiting For

Game Info

Pokemon X and Y is the renovation this series has deserved for over a decade.

With Pokemon X and Y, Game Freak hasn’t just buffed out long-standing blemishes with the core series; they’ve also added new, welcome features at every turn. The developer is finally starting to get proactive, rather than reactive, about how they change the Pokemon experience.

Game Freak’s improvements with Pokemon X and Y are so comprehensive, so far-reaching that they make previous generations and their respective improvements seem insubstantial in hindsight. The result is not only the best Pokemon game I’ve ever played, but one of the best portable role-playing games ever created.

Pokemon X and Y‘s cosmetic, three-dimensional overhaul is the series’ most obvious change. The animated sprites of Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 came close to making that leap, but the difference here is dramatic. The overworld, particularly in the game’s larger cities, feels expansive, and cutscene cameras can operate in 3D space rather than just hovering 30 feet overhead.

Battles are where the effect really takes flight. Every single Pokemon through the franchise’s lifetime is presented with a 3D model that attacks, takes hits and faints like an actual thing, instead of a few frames of pixel art. Combat feels dynamic and exciting, and really characterizes each Pokemon in a way that the series hasn’t done before. Pokemon finally feel like characters, not just elemental weapons.

Feudal Sinnoh: Pokmon Legends: Arceus

Players control a trainer from ancient Sinnoh times who is tasked with creating the first-ever Pokédex. To do that, they will need to explore a gorgeous open world. You can even catch Pokémon in the overworld by throwing an ancient Poké Ball. You also fight right in the overworld instead of going into a different battle mode. Pokémon Legends: Arceus releases for Nintendo Switch on January 28, 2022.

The New Experience Share

Pokémon pushes you to train many creatures to have a well-balanced team, but this takes a lot of time and some players may wish to focus on only one or two Pokémon instead.

The Experience Share item reduced time spent training in previous generations. When held by a Pokémon, it gave half of the battle’s experience points to it, even if it didn’t participate in the battle. If two or more Pokémon held an EXP share, their half of the experience was evenly divided among them. The other half went directly to the Pokémon that fought in the battle.

For example, if Pikachu held the EXP Share, and Squirtle participated in a battle yielding 100 experience points, both Pokémon would receive 50 points. Take a look at how the EXP Share works in Pokémon Emerald in the video.

In Pokémon X and Y, the EXP Share has been modified to make training your team easier. Instead of being an item held by a single Pokémon, it is a Key Item that is switched on for all those;with you. When activated, your entire team receives half of the experience for the battle, while the creature;that fought still gain full EXP.

For example, if you have six Pokémon in your team with the EXP share turned on, and fight a battle that yields 100 EXP using only Pikachu, Pikachu will gain the full 100 experience points and every other team member will receive 50.

But Wait There’s More

Effort Values , one of the traits that previously made Pokémon games more complex than they seem, have become visible to players for the first time in this generation of Pokémon. Using the Super Training feature, players can track and work on certain EVs individually, a great option for players who want as much control as possible over their battling.

The Friend Safari is a new location that allows Trainers to catch Pokémon that otherwise wouldn’t be accessible to them and makes it easier to catch Shiny Pokémon as a bonus. By registering Friend Codes to add friends on your 3DS/2DS system, you gain access to more Friend Safaris. In essence, you get rewarded simply for having friends. How many games do you know that do that? Not even do.

Finally, a number of small balance tweaks have been made that only veteran players will notice. For instance, weather effects like sandstorms and rain that power up certain types of Pokémon now only last for five turns instead of being indefinite. Additionally, the Steel type, which is tough defensively, isn’t resistant to Dark and Ghost-type moves any longer, making it more vulnerable than before.

Pokémon HOME is necessary for any serious Pokémon trainer who wants to keep the collection of Pokémon they’ve caught over the years. The base service is free but allows players to store up to only 30 Pokémon and limits how many trades they can do. However, if players pay for the Premium subscription, they’ll be able to deposit as many as 6,000 Pokémon and can trade more freely with others online.

Team Battles: Pokmon Unite

Square off in 5-on-5 team battles while using teamwork to score points and take down opponents. There’s a good roster of characters, and each Pokémon has its own Battle type with strengths and weaknesses, which you’ll need to use to your advantage. Best of all, Pokémon Unite is free-to-play, though there are optional in-game purchases.

Pokemon Sword And Shield

The most recent games in the Pokemon canon for Nintendo Switch made some significant changes, some more popular than others. The most controversial change came before the game was even released with the announcement that The Pokemon Company would break with tradition and no longer have support for all prior Pokemon, as the Pokedex had ballooned to massive size. It did add a total of 81 new monsters, as well as 13 regional variants, though.

Sword and Shield traded the previous two games Mega Evolutions for a new element of growing your Pokemon to kaiju-size using Gigantimaxingwhich went hand-in-hand with a new giant raid boss mechanic. The games also introduced the Wild Area, special zones within the game world teeming with visible wild Pokemon roaming free. In the Wild Area, you had free control over the camera to scope out Pokemon and engage them at will for battles and captures.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are also the first Pokemon to introduce large-scale post-launch expansions. The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra DLC packs came in the summer and fall after release, respectively, and reintroduced some of the Pokemon that had been removed from the initial game, along with new Pokemon and variants.

Pokemon Red Blue And Yellow

The original games that started a global phenomenon. These Game Boy classics lack some of the fit and finish that would come in later iterations of the franchise, but they still hold up incredibly well. All of the major pieces that make a Pokemon game great are present here, including a lengthy monster-catching story, charming chiptune music, a rival character nipping at your heels, and of course, the existence of rare and hard-to-find legendary pokemon. These games set the template for all that was to follow, and included some of the most all-time iconic Pokemon designs, like Charizard, Pikachu, and Gengar.

Pokemon Red and Blue were released first, encouraging the cross-game trading aspect that continues to to be a staple of the series. Pokemon Yellow followed just a year later in America, capitalizing on the massive breakout popularity of Pokemon with an enhanced version that paid direct homage to the popular anime cartoon series. In Yellow, instead of picking your starter Pokemon, youre given a Pikachu just like Ash on TV . Just like in the anime, your starter Pikachu remains his cute little self and never evolves into Raichu. Some of the trainers were also either added or had their appearances changed to more closely resemble the anime series.

Pokemon Go Teases New Pokemon For Fashion Week

Pokémon X and Y – New Legendary Pokémon: Diancie Analysis

Pokemon Go is teasing a new Pokemon for its upcoming Fashion Week event. Last night, PokemonGo posted a tease for its annual Fashion Week event, which kicks off later this month. The tease contained a silhouette of Furfrou, a Normal-type Pokemon that first appeared in Pokemon X and Y. Fashion Week typically contains new costumed Pokemon, but Furfrou seems like a natural fit given that the Pokemon has a number of forms that can be changed with a simple visit to a style salon. You can check out the initial tease below:

Which costumed Pokémon will walk the runway during this years Fashion Week event?

Pokémon GO

Furfrou is a Normal-type Pokemon that resembles a French poodle. In the main series games, Furfrou has nine different “trims,” special looks that it gains when visiting a style salon. Each of these trims only last for a few days and provide no mechanical benefit to players.;

PokemonGo first teased Furfrou’s arrival last month when it switched over its loading screen. Furfrou appears as one of several Pokemon whose shadows form a frightening figure in celebration of Halloween. Thanks to datamines, we know that Pokemon Go developers added Furfrou’s various trims to the game, although it’s unclear whether Pokemon Go players will have the ability to change Furfrou’s looks or if players will need to catch Furfrou with the various trims in the wild. Several other costumed Pokemon are also expected to appear as a part of the event.;

Pokemon Gold Silver And Crystal

Nestled between the series humble beginnings and a feeling of deja vu that set in for many of its sequels, Pokemon Gold and Silver were the sophomore effort that hit the sweet spot for many fans. Released on the Game Boy Color, these sequels brought back all of the original Pokemon from Red and Blue with new enhanced looks, while adding another 100 new pocket monsters to collect. Like Red and Blue, it was heavily reliant on a trading mechanic, with Gold and Silver offering slightly different collections to encourage eager trainers to engage with their community and friends.

But far from a simple retread, Pokemon Gold and Silver introduced almost as many new mechanics and features to the series as the original. Those included a day-night cycle and weekly calendar, so certain Pokemon would only appear at certain times of day or on specific days of the week. Pokemon gained the ability to hold items that would restore health or improve passive stats. Gold and Silver introduced new Shiny Pokemon, extremely rare variants with special coloring and enhanced stats. They also added not one but two new pokemon types: Steel and Dark, to counter Poison and Psychic Pokemon, respectively. And they introduced Pokemon breeding, which let players pair their favorite monsters to produce a new egg that would hatch into a Pokemon that inherited stat bonuses from its parents.

Pokemon Diamond And Pearl

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl were the other DS entries, and made a bigger splash on the platform due to taking advantage of the new hardware. The core gameplay changes from the rest of the series were minimal, consisting of fine-tuning like adjustments to attack types and the addition of a Pokemon Contests mini-game. But Diamond and Pearl are most notable for the first appearance of the Global Trade Station, or GTS. By taking advantage of the DS WiFi connection, players from all over the world could connect and trade their captured monsters. Trading has been core to the series identity from the very beginning, and this was a major innovation that helped realize the concepts full potential. Though the early online steps were clunky and awkward by modern standards, they helped pave the way for Nintendo to continue to iterate with its online trading features. These games are also set to get remakes, titled Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, on the Nintendo Switch later this year.

How To Start A New Game In Pokemon X & Y

If youve picked up a used copy of Pokemon X or Y, or you just want to start over on your adventure, youll need to know how to start a new game. In recent Pokemon titles, the option to simply start a new game from the menu has disappeared, and youll instead only be able to continue the progress of the current save file.

As such, youll need to delete and format Pokemon X or Y first before you can start over. To do this, once youve reached the title screen press Up on the D-pad, B, and X all at the same time. This should then ask you if youd like to delete the existing save file. Confirm that this is what you want to do and the game will reboot. Once you reach the title screen this time around, you should have the option to start a new game in Pokemon X & Y.

If youre having problems when entering the button sequence, try entering it as the opening cutscenes are playing, as some players have reported to have had more success this way.

Thats all you need to know to start a new game in Pokemon X & Y. Now get out there and catch em all!

One perplexing thing about the visual enhancement is the game’s refusal to utilize the 3DS’s namesake in any meaningful way. In the overworld, 3D doesn’t function at all. In battles, the depth of field effect isn’t especially dramatic, and the game actually suffers a staggering drop in framerate when the 3D slider is turned on.

Admittedly, I never use 3D when playing games on Nintendo’s handheld, so it was kind of a non-issue for me. It’s just strange Pokemon X and Y almost serves as justification for the 2DS, which lacks that 3D functionality and launches the same day as the game.

Pokemon X and Y is a completely interconnected experience, which is exactly how Pokemon is meant to be played a fact I’d forgotten since my schoolyard days.

The solo campaign is still rigidly formulaic; the path from your starting town to the Elite Four isn’t so different from the one you carved in Pokemon Red and Blue. Despite that fact, the new setting, Kalos, feels uncharted and exciting. The game’s real-world Parisian inspiration comes through in every facet of the region, giving it a kind of cohesive charm that the settings of the last few generations have lacked.

Connectivity To Other Devices

Along with the many additions that X and Y introduced, various improvements to the communication features were also implemented. Using the Player Search System , players can encounter and keep track of various online players, including strangers, allowing them to easily initiate battles or trades. The Holo Caster allows the player to receive messages and updates from NPCs via StreetPass and SpotPass. Wonder Trade is a new trading feature which allows players to trade one of their Pokémon in exchange for a random one from another player. Other features include O-Powers, temporary powers that can increase stats and can be exchanged with other players, and improvements to the Global Trade System, allowing players to request Pokémon they have not encountered. At certain points in the game, players will be able to take in-game screenshots, which they can then share on the Pokémon Global Link website.

Sword Dlc: Pokmon Sword Expansion Pass

With this pass, Pokémon Sword owners can explore two new locations within the Galar region: the Crown Tundra and the Armor Isle. The Crown Tundra is filled with legendary Pokémon from previous games, while the Armor Isle provides a new storyline and a new Pokémon for players to evolve. You do need the base game to play this DLC.

Pokemon Black And White 2

All of the Pokemon games loosely take place within a shared universe, but Black and White 2 is the series only actual, canonical sequel. Set two years after Pokemon Black and White, these sequels revolve around the reemergence of Team Plasma. Though it took place in the same region, it featured new towns and areas that hadnt been accessible in the first game, and a handful of new mechanics. Those included a Pokemon World Tournament that featured famous trainers from the series history and a new PokeStar Studio side-game. But while it was an enjoyable follow-up to an already solid Pokemon game, it was a little less novel and didnt represent the usual degree of change that we see in a whole new Pokemon generation.

Pokemon Ruby And Sapphire

Pokemon X and Y Weekly: Your New Special Friends

The Game Boy Advance brought the third generation of Pokemon games, Ruby and Sapphire. By this point, the template had been set for what a new Pokemon game would be: another truckload of monsters to collect, a new story, and some new features. This time, the games got a graphical upgrade from the Game Boy versions, along with Double Battles that use two Pokemon at a time. These versions also brought about Pokemon abilities for further strategic customization. Plus, you could link with up to four players at a time instead of only two. At the same time, some players felt the series was already starting to become rote, and the difficulty importing Pokemon from the previous Game Boy generations caused some stir among fans.
