Top 5 Rarest Pokemon Of All Time

The RAREST Pokemon In Every Region! (Rarest Pokemon)

There are some Pokemon that can be considered extremely rare, even outside of the Legendary or Mythical category. This list will not include the Mythical or Legendary Pokemon. They are obviously rare, but it will include those that have incredibly low encounter rates.

Regular rare Pokemon are some of the hardest to find in the franchise. The chances of coming across one are slim to none.

Shining Charizard Neo Destiny 1st Edition

Sold for $8,900

Neo Destiny is the last and fourth expansion of the Neo Series. And it is well-known for featuring dark as well as light Pokemon. While light Pokemon are bright-spirited and caring, dark Pokemon are usually regarded as a corrupted version of their regular species. Dark Pokemon have appeared in many different series. However, the Neo Destiny set is the only one in which you will find the light Pokemon.

Pokemon World Championships Promo No 2 Trainer

  • Release Date:;2006
  • Grading: PSA 9
  • Pokemon card value at auction: $110, 100

The incredibly rare Trophy card was handed out at the 2006 World Championship held in Anaheim, California. Since these Pokemon cards were only given to winners, it makes their population extremely low.

According to PSA, only three of these collectibles are even said to have been issued at the competition. It almost feels like a crime putting this Pokemon card at this spot because due to its scarcity, it rarely goes up for sale

However in February 2021, one finally appeared online. With over 150 bids, this item brought in a mind-blowing $110,100 at a PWCC auction.

The general rule is: If its a first edition shadowless card, you may have something. But if its the first edition shadowless holo Blastoise, youve definitely got something! What makes this card so special is the fact that it was actually a part of the original standard set that was first released to players in the late 90s. ;

So, if you were actively buying card packs or begging your parents to buy them every time they went out and you happened to obtain this card, you could be sitting on at least $10,000. Imagine, what you bought for a few bucks 20 years ago is now worth $10K at auction, depending on the condition its in. Trust me, minor rips and nicks make all the difference in this game.

Aside from Darkrai, Deoxys and Genesect, which can be encountered in raids, many mythicals in Pokémon GO can only be collected as part of special research tasks.

So while you may only get one chance to nab a mythical Pokémon such as Jirachi, youre guaranteed to get it if you follow the task guidelines.

Did Arceus Created Mew

Ninsunekon suggests Mew gave birth to the egg that Arceus hatched from, and Arceus created Mew. Neither of them are first or second, but both of them are first and second. This theory holds water because of a third Pokemon: Dialga. Because of this, Mew and Arceus created each other; they are both first and not first.

Super Secret Battle No 1 Trainer

Top 10 Rarest Pokemon of All Time!

The answer to “What’s the rarest Pokémon card of all time?”

Sold for $90,000 in July 2020

Its unlikely youve heard of Super Secret Battle No. 1 Trainer, and extremely unlikely youve ever seen a copy in person. When it comes to rare Pokémon cards, there are very few cards rarer than this.

No. 1 Trainer is a holographic promotional card awarded to finalists in the Secret Super Battle tournament held in Tokyo, Japan in 1999. To earn a place in the competitions finals, which were held in a secret location, players had to first win a regional tournament. Their prize was the No. 1 Trainer card, which granted them access to the finals.

The cards text translates to: The Pokémon Card Game Official Tournament’s champion is recognised here, and this honour is praised. By presenting this card, you may gain preferential entry into the Secret Super Battle. The card features the Japanese logo for the Pocket Monsters Trading Card Game, along with artwork of original generation Pokémon Mewtwo by illustrator Hideki Kazama.

This is a card so rare and valuable that Indiana Jones probably had to escape a crumbling temple with it at some point. Its counterpart cards No.2 Trainer and No. 3 Trainer, similarly awarded to winners in Japanese Pokémon tournaments during the late 1990s, are almost as rare and valuable.

    Known as the Collective Pokémon, Barbaracle is more of a community than an individual. That is, in part, what makes it so ugly. #10 Stormfront Charizard, $489.46

    Prepare to see a lot of Charizard on this list. As the series’ most popular Pokémon, it appears on almost all of the cards here in some form or another.

    Stormfront was released in 2008 under the Diamond & Pearl umbrella. While not one of the set’s many rare Lv.X Pokémon, Charizard was still a highly coveted Secret Rare, putting him as the most valuable card from the entire set.

    Aquapolis’ Lugia

    The Pokémon Company/Wizards of the Coast

    #9 Aquapolis Lugia, $490

    Aquapolis came from that weird e-Card era of the Pokémon Trading Card game, where cards could be scanned into the e-Reader peripheral for the Gameboy Advance. While the whole thing was a total failure , some of the cards from that time are still pretty valuable. Lugia is the most expensive card from Aquapolis, coming in at around $490-$500.

    #8 FireRed & LeafGreen Charizard ex, $500

    The return to Kanta in the GameBoy Advance era also saw the TCG follow suit, with a set entirely featuring Pokémon from the original 151. To give it that Advance generation flair, a number of Pokémon also received an ex form, a new feature that was first introduced in EX Ruby & Sapphire. Of course, the #1 card was Charizard ex.

    Th Anniversary 24k Gold Ginza Tanaka Pikachu Card

    Ginza Tanaka, a famous Japanese jeweler, collaborated with The Pokemon Company to create a set of Pikachu cards for Pokemons 20th anniversary. These Japanese-exclusive cards were modeled after the original Pikachu from the base set. Business Insider reports each card incorporated 11 grams of 24-karat gold into the design and came with an acrylic case for protection and display. One PWCC listing specifies that collectors pre-ordered the cards for $2,100 from either Pokemon Center Online or 7net during a 20-day period between October and November 2016.

    An independent seller sold a Ginza Tanaka Pikachu for $50,000 on eBay. The seller advertised that the particular card was also signed by Pokemon trading card illustrator Mitsuhiro Arita at the Dallas 2018 Pokemon Regional Championships. At the time, Arita reportedly said that it was the only Ginza Tanaka Pikachu he signed. The exact number of Ginza Tanaka Pikachus hasnt been confirmed, but PWCC claims that the demand far outweighs the supply.

    Trophy Pikachu Trainer Number 1 Card

    This card was given to those champions coming out of a qualifying round during the first Japanese Pokémon Card Game Official Tournament. That qualifying round was held on the first of two days at the at the Makuhari Messe convention center in China on June 14 to 15, 1997. It represents the first of the legendary “Trainer” Cards given to competition winners and has a value to prove it.

    Pokmon Charizard 1st Edition Card #4/102

    Charizard is unquestionably one of the most popular Pokémon characters. Given his presence on the original Pokémon Red game cartridge, he’s linked to the brand almost as closely as Pikachu. Due in part to that popularity, a highly graded first edition card has proven itself as one that is dependably sought out by collectors and consistently valuable.

    What’s it worth? The value of sale has been widely speculated, but it can easily sell for as much as $20,000 for a high-grade example. Add to that the play value of this one and you can see why people have been on the hunt for all versions of this character’s card since the card game’s inception.

    Pokmon Neo Revelation 1st Edition Holo Houndoom #8

    WHAT ARE THE RAREST POKEMON IN POKEMON GO? Hardest Pokemon to Get in 2019

    Neo Revelation is a 66-card expansion that was released back in 2001.;

    Weve mentioned that dark Pokémon were overpowered at the time, but they were also unique enough to stand out from the crowd compared to normal types that had been seen before.

    Houndoom is one such example, with the card wrapped in a distinctive black background.;

    Youll be able to see advancements in terms of the illustration compared to the base 1999 set, as Houndoom howls at the moon in the image. Rather than a full holo background, only the stars glitter in the light.;

    Another expensive option, its limited to only 28 PSA 10 copies. Thats low enough to allow it to mix with the rarest original Pokémon cards.

    The Masked Royal Prize Promo: $18000

    This is undoubtedly one of the most recent rare cards, featuring the Masked Royal character from Pokemon Sun & Moon and released as recently as 2017. This is essentially a promotional card that was given out to players in an invitation-only prerelease in Tokyo for the new Shining Legends set, where only 100 copies were made.

    Even though this is a relatively normal card by most standards, this short print run means its incredibly hard to get, especially since it was handed out in such a restrictive event. As a result, there are actually preserved tweets of players first opening it in places like Pokeboon, while Japanese trading sites like Miyabi Hobby have past listings of the card at ¥2,000,000, which currently is equal to around $18,000 USD.

    The Rarest Cards In Pokmon Tcg

    These cards are not cheap.

    Following the success of the console games, the Pokémon TCG was one of the first offerings the franchise released to the public.

    The first set of cards were released in Japan in 1996 before an American release in 1999. At the time, the trading card game saw immediate popularity that spawned a series of card sets every year going forward.

    After some time, each set would be retired, and the only way to get a hold of these cards would be to buy resale.

    Alongside each set, The Pokémon Company would do occasional promotional cards that were limited in supply and, in some cases, only awarded to players who completed specific tasks.

    Over the past two years the Pokémon TCG has seen a massive boom in popularity and these limited cards have been able to fetch hefty amounts of cash.

    Here are some of the rarest cards on the market right now.

    To acquire this card, players needed to pass through a series of tests. First players would need to pass a test held by Shogakukan Magazine. Players who passed this test were then invited to compete in a tournament in Osaka where winning would net them this rare card.

    There were 1,000 copies of this card available to earn, but it is not clear if they were all awarded to players. The design itself is simple, with Magikarp in its standard form. It does appear to be using a powerful attack not commonly associated with the Pokémon. If you want to get your hands on this card, be prepared to pay a hefty price.

    Blastoise 1st Edition Shadowless Base Set

    Our top 10 rarest Pokemon cards
    • Release Date: 1999
    • Grading: PSA Gem Mint 10
    • Pokemon card value at auction: $45,100

    Not only is Blastoise one of the most beloved characters in the Game Freak RPG, but the Water-type starter has also become one of the most valuable Pokemon cards currently on the market.

    Those who grew up with the 1999 Base Set easily equated the turtle on the same level as the highly sought-after Charizard, so it makes sense that decades later, many are willing to bust out their wallets for the iconic mon.

    While its 1st Edition Shadowless Pokemon card from 1999 has always brought in good money, the popular item has seen a massive jump in value recently. In a PWCC auction held in November 2020, the rare Base Set Blastoise sold for $45,100.

    To the untrained eye, the Charizard Base Set Unlimited Print 4/102 may look identical to the most expensive and rarest Pokémon card on this list, but there are many key differences. This edition of the original English language Base Set Charizard card features the same artwork by Mitsuhiro Arita, but it lacks the 1st Edition stamp and also features a drop shadow to the right of the art panel. This card was part of the Unlimited print run of the 1999 Pokémon Base Set meaning its 1st Edition counterpart is a much more rare Pokémon card. The original publisher of the English Pokémon card game was Wizards of the Coast, and after their initial print runs of the Pokémon Base Set, they received some criticism that the card design was too boring. To combat these complaints they added a shadow effect to the right side of the art panel. While the shadow may have made the card look more aesthetically pleasing back in the day, today it does carry a more affordable price tag. A Charizard Base Set Unlimited Print 4/102 PSA 10 sold for as high as $8,100 on StockX making it the second most expensive Pokémon card to sell on StockX.
