Using The Pokemon Rankings
In the top-level rankings, you’ll see a score for each Pokemon. This score is an overall performance number from 0 to 100, where 100 is the best Pokemon in that league and category. It is derived from simulating every possible matchup, with each Pokemon’s most used moveset . Use this score to compare overall performance between Pokemon; for example, the difference between the #1 and #50 Pokemon may not be the same as the difference between the #50 and #100 Pokemon. This score also allows you to see the parity in different leagues and categories.
Trainer Battles feature a wide variety of scenarios, especially involving shields. In order to give a fuller picture, our overall rankings are derived from additional sets of rankings, where battles are simulated with different roles in mind. You can explore rankings for each of the following categories:
Different Pokemon may succeed in different scenarios, so use these categories to help determine when a particular Pokemon would be the most valuable.
Within each ranking, you’ll see four separate detail sections:
- Fast Moves – Which Fast Moves the Pokemon uses most in the league and category.
- Charged Moves – Which Charged Moves the Pokemon uses most in the league and category.
- Key Wins – Which battles the Pokemon performs best in, weighed by the opponent’s overall score.
- Key Counters – Which significant opponents perform best against the Pokemon.
What About Secondary Charge Moves In Pokmon Go
With PvP Trainer Battles, Niantic also introduced secondary Charge Moves. You can buy them with Stardust and Candy, and TM them to whatever it is you need. So, what do you need? Typically, variety. If the best Charge Move is a full bar, get a secondary that’s multi-bar. If there are two possible types for the Charged move, get both. For example, a Mewtwo with Shadow Ball or Psystrike is incredible, but one with both? Gamebreaker! However, adding a second Charge Move is expensive so make sure there is a good secondary move before spending on this upgrade.
What Are The Best Pokmon Go Movesets

Using The Move Rankings
Each Pokemon has a pool of Fast Moves and a pool of Charged Moves. Some moves might be better in one battle, and other moves might be better in another. For Trainer Battles, you’ll want know which moves will be the best ones to have in the most matchups. You might also want to know which Pokemon are the best candidates for a second Charged Move. The move details within each Pokemon ranking can help you determine that.
Moves are ranked using calculations primarily based on their damage and energy cost. Stat changes are also factored in. These calculations are run for each matchup, and then totaled across the format. Matchup weighting affects these numbers as well, so moves that would be used against significant meta targets will rank higher.
When looking at potential moves, keep an eye out for Pokemon that have a strong tendency toward a single Fast Move and a single Charged Move. These Pokemon will have their optimal moveset in the most matchups. On the other hand, some Pokemon see more balanced usage in their Charged Moves. This is where having a second Charged Move comes into play.
As an exercise, select any one Pokemon in the Team Builder tool and compare its battle histograms when it has one Charged Move and when it has two. If a second Charged Move improves its matchups, it might be one worth investing in.

What About Types In Pokmon Go
It’s also important to keep in mind types! While some Pokémon only have one type, most have two and all Pokémon can learn moves from multiple types. Although most Pokémon have a single moveset that is the best for their whole species, there are some Pokémon who have multiple sets. Take Chandelure, for example; Chandelure is a Fire and Ghost type and can be one of the best of either. If you’re using your Chandelure as a Fire type, you’ll want it to know Fire Spin and Overheat, but if you’re going for Ghost type, you’ll want Hex and Shadow Ball.

Magmortar in Pokemon GO has a moveset of a variety of types, duetting with its November Community Day counterpart, Electrivire.
Niantic Labs recently featured Magmar as part of its on-going Community Day feature. On Nov. 21, trainers were able to encounter this fire-type at a dramatically increased rate than normal. Additionally, its pre-evolved form, Magby, was slated to hatch from 2 k.m. eggs exclusively for the duration of the event. Trainers who chose to evolve their captured Magmar during or two hours post-programming received another surpriseâMagmortar had Thunderbolt as its charged move.

- Fire Spin is much more damaging than Karate Chop on defense.
- Brick Break is hard to dodge and is not resisted by Magmortars common counters.

Is Magmar Better Than Magmortar
It would be difficult to find a case where the middle evolution is stronger than the final evolution and the same principle applies here. Magmortar has stronger base stats than Magmar by 45 total base stats. But, in this case, you could argue that Magmar is faster than Magmortar although it is still not enough to outperform its evolution.;
How Do I Make The Most Of This Community Day
During the event, eggs will hatch four times as fast when theyre placed into Incubators and Incense will last three times as long. Shove all your eggs into Incubators during the event and catch a ton of Magmar to make the most of it.
Magmortar isnt fit for PvP and its an OK fire-type raider, but there are much better options. It only cracks the ranks among the other fire-types when its Shadow Magmortar, so make sure to grab a Shadow Magmar if you see one when taking down Team Go Rocket baddies.
For raiding, give Magmortar Fire Spin with either Fire Blast or Fire Punch.
If youre deciding which Shiny Magmar to evolve at the end of the day, try using one of the new search strings. Sort your mons by recent using the lower right icon, and then type 4* in the search box at the top. This will let you know if you have any 100% IV Magmar. Most people wont be so lucky, so next youll want to type 3* in the search box, which will show you any recent mons that are 80% or above. Appraise these to see which one is best, and then evolve your new buddy!

What If You Don’t Have The Best Movesets In Pokmon Go
Since the introduction of the Raid Battle system in June 2017, you can get Technical Machines to change your movesets. Two of the possible rewards for beating Raid Bosses are Quick TM and Fast TM, which can be used to change Quick Moves and Charge Moves respectively. Regular TMs are completely random and cannot access Legacy Moves.
Legacy Moves are special moves that were once available for a Pokémon but are no longer. Sometimes they were removed when Niantic re-balanced the game. Some were only available on Community Day or in special Raids. Either way, if a Legacy Move happens to be the best possible move for a Pokémon and you don’t have it, you cannot get it with a normal TM. Before you use a TM on any Pokémon, you should always check to see if the move you’re changing is a Legacy Move and if that move is worth having. A lot of Legacy Moves don’t perform well, but some of them are the best moves in the game.
More recently, Niantic introduced Elite TMs. These TMs are rare, and often difficult to get or expensive, but allow you to choose from any move a Pokémon can have, including Legacy Moves. They aren’t random either. You get to choose the move. Because of how hard it is to get Elite TMs, you’ll want to save them for your very best Pokémon, but hey, now you can have a Mewtwo with Shadow Ball and Psystrike!
Fire Spin + Fire Punch And Brick Break Or Thunderbolt*
Fire Spin benefits from STAB and is a good move overall, while Karate Chop falls behind in both damage output and energy gains.;
Fire Punch is Magmortar’s primary charge move, as it benefits from STAB while also costing low amounts of energy. Brick Break;is a very weak move, but costs the least amount of energy, while also providing Fighting-type coverage. Thunderbolt provides coverage against Magmortar’s weakness to Water Pokemon, though it’s moderate energy cost makes it more difficult to access before fainting. Psychic could also be chosen for its typing coverage depending on the format, though it is slower to access as well.;

Best Moveset For Magmortar In Pokmon Go
Magmortar can be a good Pokémon, and if you plan to use it in Pokémon Go, you need to build your team around to use it against other players. With it being purely a Fire-type Pokémon, you can expect to counter any Water or Rock-types you face. But its receiving a new move that it can use following Magmars Community Day, and it changes the overall moveset up a bit. Although, not by much.
Magmortar is a Fire-type Pokémon. Its weak to Ground, Rock, and Water-type moves, but its resistant to Bug, Fairy, Fire, Grass, Ice, and Steel-type attacks. It has a maximum CP of 3,152, an attack of 247, a defense of 172, and stamina of 181.

Magmortar is a pure fire-type like the rest of its evolutionary line. It has a CP ceiling of 3132, an attack stat of 247, defense of 172, and stamina of 181. At its height of power, it can have a hit point total of 154. This Pokemon does best as a PvE offense choice. However, there are far superior fire-type attackers out there due to its lack of the charged move Overheat.
As a pure fire-type, Magmortar is weak against ground, rock, and water-types. It does well against ice, grass, fairy, bug, steel, and other fire-types. Therefore, the best counters would be Kingler, Rampardos, Kyogre, Therian Landorus, Groudon, Excadrill, and Rhyperior.
Magmortar hails from the Sinnoh region with a PokeDex number of 467. It is the evolved form of Magmar, a Pokemon originally from the Kanto region. Magmortar is best known for its combat tactic of “shooting fireballs, which burn to a blackened crisp.” Trainers can evolve their Magby into Magmar with 25 candies, and then further into Magmortar with 100 candies and a Sinnoh Stone.

How To Catch Magmortar In Pokemon Go
If you would like to obtain a Magmortar in Pokemon Go, the easiest way is to get a Magby and eventually evolve it into Magmortar. Like most final evolution Pokemon, the final evolution is a rare spawn as compared to its base evolution. Magby can be found anywhere fire type Pokemon spawn which includes, and isnt limited to, beaches, parks, residential, and other dry/arid climates. You can also hatch a Magby from 5 km eggs but to evolve Magby, you will need 25 candies while to evolve Magmar, you will need 100 candies and a Sinnoh Stone. Unfortunately it does not seem as if Magmortar has appeared as a raid boss in the past and thus youll need to do it the hard way.
