How To Play Pokmon Go: Spotting The Pokmon
Pokémon Go uses GPS coordinates as your in-game character walks around a real-world map according to your physical location.;
Once you’re done setting up your character, you will see yourself on a map, surrounded by some Pokémon. On the bottom left corner of the screen, you will see your username and avatars of you and your buddy Pokémon .;
The Pokéball in the middle triggers a menu, where you can open your Pokédex, battle, shop, view your Pokemon and any additional items. On the bottom right corner, you can spot a binoculars icon, which should indicate any challenges that you can complete as part of a quest or during a special event.
Below that icon, there’s a small white bar that features three shadows of Pokemon. Tap on it in order to reveal those Pokémon’s locations at a few checkpoints near you. Each location has a real-life photograph attached to it and by selecting it, the map should show you how to get there.;
Pokemon should appear all around you on a map, though their quantity and type will vary depending on your location, the weather and if you’re near a Pokéstop. As you can see on the screenshot above, I was surrounded by four Bidoofs . Now, ideally, you would be catching as many Pokémon as you can in order to gain more XP points, but if you’re being picky or if you’re doing a challenge, go ahead and select one that meets your eye.;
Now let’s move onto the next stage: catching ’em.

Raid battles are arguably Pokemon Gos biggest feature. Once you hit level 20, you can access raid events in which a powerful Boss Pokemon appears at certain times of the day. If there’s a raid happening close to you, you get a notification and have the chance to join. But if you walk right up to a gym, youll be disappointed when the bouncer at the door asks for a Raid Pass or Premium Raid Pass and you don’t have one. These can be gotten by going to a gym and spinning the photo disc. Only one raid pass can be used per day, otherwise, you need to purchase a Premium Raid Pass from the shop to participate in raid battles more often.

What The Heck Is Pokmon Go
If you’ve been living under a rock or otherwise have kept yourself off the internet this weekend, you may have missed the official launch of Niantic and Nintendo’s already-ridiculously-popular new game, Pokémon Go.
It retains the basics of Pokémon games past ;catching Pokémon, battling at Gyms, using items, evolving your creatures with a crazy twist: You’re doing it all in the real world. That means instead of tapping or using a D-pad to tell your virtual avatar where to go to find Pokémon, you’re actually walking. In the real world. Crazy, we know.
You may have stumbled onto this page knowing nothing about Pokémon. That’s okay. You don’t have to be a fan of the previous games or even know the lore to have fun with this game: While it may overtly promote itself as a game about catching Pokémon and battling, the real joy is exploring the real world with your friends, giggling while you check in at historical monuments disguised as PokéStops, and making new connections in your neighborhood with other would-be Pokétrainers.

Visit Pokstops And Gyms To Collect Items
Now that youve picked your first Pokémon, its time to fill your inventory with useful items to help you catch more. In Pokémon GO, players acquire items in two primary ways either they collect them by visiting PokéStops, or they purchase them with real cash .
PokéStops are marked on the map by large blue indicators. When you are within range of one, it will expand and show an image of the landmark it represents. To interact with it, simply click on it and swipe your finger across the screen. This will cause a bunch of items to float across the screen. You can then either click on these one at a time or simply close the screen theyll appear in your inventory regardless.
The other main landmarks youll see on the map are Gyms. These are locations where you can battle Pokémon left behind by other players so long as youve reached the appropriate level. Here, youll assemble a team of Pokémon to try and knock out those defending the Gym. If you manage to wipe out the other team, youll be able to leave your own Pokémon behind and claim the Gym. Dont worry about this too much the game will explain the gist of it when youre finally able to compete. Beyond battling, Gyms can also be spun like PokéStops to earn new items.
Pokmon And Inventory Management
Though much of your time spent with Pokémon GO will involve walking around and collecting wild Pokémon, youll also spend a considerable amount of time managing your inventory. In Pokémon GO, you have limited inventory space, so youll need to keep up with the items and Pokémon you have, to ensure you dont run out of room. One of the easiest ways to clear room for Pokémon is to transfer them to the professor, which grants you a candy for that Pokémon. Candies are required to evolve each Pokémon, so you should get in the habit of transferring your duplicates when you can. This will help you get closer to filling out your Pokédex.

See How Close A Certain Monster Is
Do you hope to find some fresh Pokémon that are seemingly in your area but you just cant seem to reach them? Heres a tip the app doesnt make all that clear. When you open up the list of nearby Pokémon list in the bottom right of your screen, youll see a list of monsters, each with footprints underneath. The more footprints, the farther you need to walk from where you currently are. And if the number of footprints doesnt decrease, youre clearly headed in the wrong direction. Hopefully this will get you closer to the rarer beasts youre searching for.
Walk Around To Spawn Pokemon
The most basic way to spawn and catch Pokemon is to walk around the area! Simply walking around will make Pokemon appear for you to encounter them.
Increase Spawn Rate With Lures & Incense
Items such as Lures and Incense increase the spawn rate of a Pokemon. Lures are dropped onto Poke Stops to draw Pokemon near them while Incense lures Pokemon near you when you are walking around.

More Berries Than Ever
We explained in;our primer;that razz berries are items you can feed a Pokemon to slow it down before you capture it. Updates have introduced multiple types of berries that each have different effects.Nanab Berries: Use these berries to slow down a wild Pokemon’s movements. Strategic use of these can be key to capturing a particularly elusive ‘Mon.Pinap Berries: These double the amount of Candy you get as a reward if your next attempt to capture a Pokemon succeeds. It’s a bit of a risk though, because if you fail to capture your next target the berry goes to waste.Razz Berries: Mechanics haven’t changed here. Razz Berries can still be fed to a wild Pokemon to make it easier to catch.Golden Razz Berries: Like their less shiny cousins, the Golden Razz Berries have the same function of making it easy to capture wild Pokemon, but are much more powerful.You can use berries in tandem with a stronger Pokeball to catch particularly feisty or extremely rare Pokemon that cross your path. However, don’t use multiple berries at a time since their effects don’t stack.One of the aspiring trainers right here in the PCMag Labs caught themselves a Dragonair doing just that. Feed the Pokemon a razz berry, take out a Great Ball, give it some good arc on your throw, and catching just got a whole lot easier.
