Tepig: Two Stab Moves
Tepig after evolving into Pignite gets a dual typing as a Fire and Fighting Type, continuing the “Fire-Fighting” starter trend that started in Generation Three of Pokémon. Thanks to this, Tepig gets two STAB moves since it learns both Fire and Fighting moves. This adds an extra layer of Type coverage that Tepig gets that the other starters don’t ever get. While this does mean Tepig winds up with more Weakness, it also means he gets more Resistances while being able to have Super Effective STAB moves on opposing Pokémon.
Generation 8 Sword & Shield
The most recent Pokemon games, Sword and Shield take place in the Galar region, and was first released back in 2019. Although it is the most recent game, it has been hugely popular and the starter Pokemon to choose from have provide to be a hit with the fans!
The grass-type starter is Grookey who evolves into Rillaboom. The fire-type is Scorbunny who evolves into Cinderace. And the water-type is Sobble who evolves into Inteleon.
In terms of the most popular according to the Tiermaker results show that all three of these starters are all of equal popularity! Maybe this will change as time goes by and fans learn more about the Pokemon and form an attachment to them.
What Is The Difference Between Black And White And Black 2
Unlike Black and White, the game will allow you to capture monsters from previous generation right from the start. Black Kyurem will know the move Freeze Shock. White Kyurem will know the move Ice Burn. The game features a new story that takes place 2 years after BW, involving a new version of Team Plasma.

Snivy: Best Defensive Utility
Snivy the Grass Starter has the best Defense stats compared to its Starter competition, with the downside of having less overall HP. Despite this, Snivy can hold its own the best thanks to just how good its Defense stats are.
RELATED: Pokémon: The 10 Most Powerful Shiny Pokémon, Ranked
Thanks to that, by the time Snivy evolves into Serperior it can be used as a great supportive Pokémon since it can learn both “Reflect” and “Light Screen” to weaken the damage other Pokémon can do to your team. Mix this with its already good defenses this makes Snivy the hardest to get rid of.
Which Pokemon Should I Choose In Black

If you want to breeze through the first couple of gyms, choose Tepig for its type advantages and high attack, hp, and special attack stats. Choose Oshawott if you want a strong Pokemon in its final evolution later in the game with its balanced stats. Or choose Snivy for its relatively high speed and defense stats.

The Electric Tale Of Pikachu
In The Electric Tale of Pikachu, unlike the anime from which the manga was based on, new Pokémon Trainers do not appear to be given any sort of starter Pokémon. Professor Oak is not shown residing at his laboratory handing out starter Pokémon to new Trainers, as in the anime, rather, he travels the Kanto region conducting research, often accompanied by Bill. Trainers in The Electric Tale of Pikachu must obtain a license before they can purchase Poké Balls or otherwise capture and train Pokémon. Ash found Pikachu under the floorboards of his home, keeping it as his first Pokémon. It is not currently known what Gary Oak‘s first Pokémon was in the manga.
Pokmon Masters Animated Trailer
A Snivy appeared in the Pokémon Masters Animated Trailer, under the ownership of Rosa. Alongside a male Trainer‘s Pikachu and Brock’s Onix, it battled Erika‘s Vileplume, as well as a Beauty‘s Lotad and a Lass‘s Whimsicott. After freeing Onix from Whimsicott’s Leech Seed with Leaf Storm, Snivy was injured by Lotad’s Energy Ball, but Brock caught it and then healed it with a Potion.

Generation 2 Gold & Silver
It was always going to be a tough task for the generation 2 Pokemon to follow up the popularity of the Kanto starter Pokemon, however, they did a very admirable job.
The designs were incredibly popular with fans, and the final evolutions didnt disappoint in terms of in-game strength either.
The grass-type starter is Chikorita who eventually evolves into Magenium. The fire-type starter is Cyndaquill who evolves into Typhlosion . And the water-type starter is Totodile who evolves into Feraligatr.
For generation 2 there is another tie for the most popular starter, and it is between Cyndaquill and Typhlosion. As cute as Chikorita is, it was too weak in-game, and so fans never formed as much of an emotional connection with the Pokemon. Totodile and Cyndaquill are also very cute Pokemon, and also offer players the option to use them through out the Gold and Silver games.
Generation 5 Black & White
Next up is generation 5, which came with Pokemon Black and White and was set in the Unova region, which is modelled after New York City. Can you believe that Pokemon Black and white are over 10 years old?!
The grass-type is Snivy who evolves into Serperior. The fire-type is Tepig who is based on a baby pig and evolves into Emboar. And the water-type is Oshawott who is based on a sea otter and evolves into Samurott.
The most popular Pokemon in generation 5 is a tie again! This time between the grass and water types, Snivy and Oshawott. This is mainly due to the design of the Pokemon at their final evolution stage, with fans much preferring Serperior and Samurott to Emboar. Poor Tepig, who wouldnt want a baby pig fire Pokemon??

Will There Be A Generation 9 Pokmon
This came from a Pokemon YouTuber, HoopsandHipHop, who was looking at an interview about Pokemon Sword & Shield from 2019. Now, Pokemon Gen 9 isnt coming anytime soon, so this location is all hypothetical. Weve got Pokemon Legends: Arceus and the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes coming, after all.
Will Black And White Get A Remake
The Pokémon Company will soon release remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, which means its likely that Pokémon Black and White remakes are coming. The Pokémon series is due to receive its next mainline remakes later this year, as Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will launch in November.

Caught In The Wild Instead
- Ash’s Bulbasaur.
- Goh’s Grookey.
Certain characters in the anime have caught a regional Starter Pokémon in the wild instead of having them as their first Pokémon.
- Ash caught:
- Three of the Kanto region starter Pokémon, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, inquicksuccession. However, one out of the three evolved, as Charmander was the only that has evolved, becoming a Charmeleon, and later a Charizard, both of which were very disobedient to Ash until an incident in the Orange Archipelago, after which it served Ash as it had when it was a Charmander. Bulbasaur was also going to evolve, but decided to stay as itself then become an Ivysaur.
- In a different community, Ash only caught Charmander and evolved into Charmeleon then into Charizard.

Pokmon Black 2 And White 2 Animated Trailer
In the Black 2 and White 2 Animated Trailer, Nate is shown to have picked a Tepig, which appears as an Emboar throughout the trailer. Following the game’s logic, Hugh is seen with a Samurott, which has a type advantage over Emboar. In the extended version of the trailer, Rosa is also seen using Serperior to battle Cheren‘s Stoutland.
Generation 3 Ruby & Sapphire
Originally released in 2002, Ruby & Sapphire were the games that introduced a lot of fans to the franchise and was also timed with a particularly popular time for the anime.
As a result, all the Pokemon of generation 3 remain incredibly popular, and the release of remakes, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire in 2014 only cementing this.
The grass-type starter for generation 3 is Treeko, who evolves into Sceptile, and was one of Ashs companions during the anime. The fire-type starter is Torchic, who evolves into Blaziken, a powerful fire and fighting-type who also played a major role in the anime. And finally, the water-type starter is Mudkip who evolves into Swampert.
Although all these Pokemon remain popular, Mudkip is far and away the most popular starter from generation 3! Much of this is due to the fact that the final evolution, Swampert, is one of the most powerful starter evolutions ever! Even strong enough to compete with the generation 1 starters.

Snivy Was Nicknamed ‘smugleaf’ By Fans Of The Series
It’s not uncommon for fans to create nicknames and other such terms to describe elements of the Pokemon series. What is a little unusual, however, is for those terms to be picked up by official Nintendo sources. The most famous example of this is undoubtedly the term “Eeveelutions,” although Snivy’s “Smugleaf” nickname is perhaps a close second.
After an article discussing the moniker appeared on the video game website Kotaku, the name went on to be used in an issue of Official Nintendo Magazine in Australia and New Zealand. Shortly afterwards, the name showed up in the UK version of the magazine as well which helped to spread it to a much wider audience.
Tepig: Most Competitively Viable
In the competitive scene of Black & White, there are tiers in which Pokémon lie. Both Serperior and Samurott belong to a tier below Emboar, making it the best in the competitive scene of Pokémon. In the competitive scene, power is king, and thanks to Emboar’s devastatingly high Attack stat mixed with a great HP stat make it a solid pick for teams. With Fire-Type moves having some of the highest damage outputs in the game, it’s not uncommon for Emboar to knock out opposing Pokémon in just one hit.

Is Black And White 2 Good
Black and White 2 has more and better Pokémon from the get-go, and the story quickly becomes a distant memory once the Elite 4 are finished. Better to cut to the chase and get to the good stuff early. One thing I really like about Black and White 2 over the original games is the new post-game content.
So You Want To Be The Pokmon Master
So you want to be the Pokémon Master? Well before you can do that, you will need to pick which Pokémon will accompany you through your journey. You have three choices: Tepig the fire pig, Snivy the grass lizard, and Oshawott the water otter. In this edition of Pokémon, the first gym is made up of three leaders that use one of fire, grass, or water. You will only battle the one that your starter is weak to, so there is no longer the advantage of picking a starter for an “easy” first gym battle.

The Most Popular Starter Pokemon From Every Generation
13th August 2021
Every Pokemon game since 1996 has started with one huge decision. Which starter Pokemon do I chose as my first partner?
Whichever you chose between the grass, fire or water type can have a huge impact on your journey through the game. And the two that you dont chose can not be caught later in the game!
The starter Pokemon you do chose stays with you throughout the entire game, and is often there battling by your side all the way to the Pokemon League.
Therefore, players form an emotional connection with their first partners, and often leads to heated debates among trainers about who is the best.
To celebrate these most loved of Pokemon, GBPosters.com have released the brand new First Partners range! Featuring a poster, three prints and three mugs, all centred around the starter Pokemon from all 8 current generations.
But which are the most popular starters for each generation? Well data has been gathered by Tiermaker, and the results are in!
Below is a breakdown of which grass, fire or water types come out on top through each generation based on that data. And dont forget to comment your favourite starter of all time!
Tepig Snivy Or Oshawott

Tepig will evolve into Chaoboo and then Emboar, becoming both fire and fighting type pokémon. This is the only starter where the evolution gains a new type. Tepig is great at the beginning because there are a lot of grass pokémon in the first couple of towns. However, there are so many fire type pokemon later on in this game that you may not want to pick a fire starter. If you get the Liberty Ticket and catch the legendary Victini, it is Fire/Psychic. Also, if you are playing Pokémon Black, your headline legendary
Reshiram is Fire/Dragon.
Snivy will evolve into Servine and then Serperior. Snivy will be useful when you are going through caves and bodies of waters because both rock and water are weak to grass. However, he will be weak in the desert where pokémon know fire moves and in the forests where bugs live.
Oshawott will evolve into Dewott and then Samurwott. Water pokémon are important because there are quite a few TM and HM water moves that you will need for the game such as Whirlpool, Surf, Waterfall, and Dive. Samurwott can learn 5 out of the 6 HMs in the game, making it quite valuable.

Unsurprisingly, Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle are all tied for the most popular starters of their generation and of all time.

Tepig Once Had Its Own Signature Move
Not all starter Pokemon have signature moves and that’s once again the case with the Unova trio. Tepig was once one of the lucky few, although, like many of the others, eventually saw its move shared around with other Pokemon in future generations Pokemon games.

At the time of Pokemon Black & White‘s release, Tepig, Pignite and Emboar were the only three Pokemon capable of learning the fire-type move, Heat Crash. When gen 8 rolled around, however, the move was assigned its own TR and was also added to the learnsets of the RolyColy evolutionary line.
Pokmon Black White Black Version 2 And White Version 2
In Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version, Professor Juniper brings the Pokémon to the player’s house, after which Cheren and Bianca come and pick up their starter Pokémon along with the player. Cheren will pick up a Pokémon that is strong against the player’s Pokémon, while Bianca picks up the Pokémon that is weak against it.
In Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2, Bianca is coming to the starting town Aspertia City to give the player his/her new starter Pokémon. Unfortunately the player’s rival Hugh doesn’t get a new starter Pokémon but will battle you with the Pokémon that he got since it was an egg. He has a Pokémon that is stronger than your starter Pokémon.

Oshawott Will Be One Of The Starter Pokemon In Pokemon Legends: Arceus
The idea of an open world Pokemon game is an interesting one and promises to bring with it some big changes to the series. One thing that won’t be changing, however, is the tradition of starting the game with a choice between three different Pokemon one of which will be Oshawott.
How exactly Game Freak settled on the starters for Pokemon Legends: Arceus isn’t exactly clear, but Oshawott seems set to make a return as the game’s water-type starter Pokemon. Joining it will be gen 2’s Cyndaquil and the Grass Quill Pokemon Rowlet from the seventh generation games.
