Pokemon Go Gengar Best Moveset
The best moveset for Gengar includes the quick moves Lick and Hex paired with the charged move, Shadow Ball. Lick is an Elite TM exclusive move, however, making it difficult to find. This moveset takes advantage of the Same Type Attack Bonus buff that increases damage by 20%. Both are ghost-type moves, and Gengar isâunsurprisinglyâa ghost and poison-type.
What About Secondary Charge Moves In Pokmon Go
With PvP Trainer Battles, Niantic also introduced secondary Charge Moves. You can buy them with Stardust and Candy, and TM them to whatever it is you need. So, what do you need? Typically, variety. If the best Charge Move is a full bar, get a secondary that’s multi-bar. If there are two possible types for the Charged move, get both. For example, a Mewtwo with Shadow Ball or Psystrike is incredible, but one with both? Gamebreaker! However, adding a second Charge Move is expensive so make sure there is a good secondary move before spending on this upgrade.

What If You Don’t Have The Best Movesets In Pokmon Go
Since the introduction of the Raid Battle system in June 2017, you can get Technical Machines to change your movesets. Two of the possible rewards for beating Raid Bosses are Quick TM and Fast TM, which can be used to change Quick Moves and Charge Moves respectively. Regular TMs are completely random and cannot access Legacy Moves.
Legacy Moves are special moves that were once available for a Pokémon but are no longer. Sometimes they were removed when Niantic re-balanced the game. Some were only available on Community Day or in special Raids. Either way, if a Legacy Move happens to be the best possible move for a Pokémon and you don’t have it, you cannot get it with a normal TM. Before you use a TM on any Pokémon, you should always check to see if the move you’re changing is a Legacy Move and if that move is worth having. A lot of Legacy Moves don’t perform well, but some of them are the best moves in the game.
More recently, Niantic introduced Elite TMs. These TMs are rare, and often difficult to get or expensive, but allow you to choose from any move a Pokémon can have, including Legacy Moves. They aren’t random either. You get to choose the move. Because of how hard it is to get Elite TMs, you’ll want to save them for your very best Pokémon, but hey, now you can have a Mewtwo with Shadow Ball and Psystrike!
What Is Gengar Good Against
Gengar is currently the best Ghost type attacker in the game. It is a specialist against Psychic and Ghost type Pokémon, but both types are also super effective against Gengar, so take that into account when you try to battle against a Psychic or Ghost type Pokémon. Gengar was also useful when Gengar raids were out, but its use has decreased significantly now that they are a thing of the past. The following Table recaps all matchups in which Gengar can be used and the recommended movesets to use against these Pokémon.

Pve Offensive Moves Explanation
- Shadow Claw is a strong attack with decent energy gain.;
- Lick is also a strong attack with less power, but faster energy gain than Shadow Claw.;Both perform similar;DPS.
- Hex;and;Sucker Punch;are quite close in performance; the main difference is that Hex is resisted by fewer types.
- Shadow Ball is;Gengar’s best charge move, sharing the same type as its best fast moves.
- Sludge Bomb;also has STAB, but its Poison typing lacks synergy with Ghost-type attacks.
- Focus Blast;has niche uses vs. Normal-type foes, but overall is an inferior option.
- For Gengar’s legacy moves, Sludge Wave has the same problem as;Sludge Bomb‘s lack of type synergy in addition to being a 1 bar move that doesn’t complement Gengar’s frailty.
- Dark Pulse;is generally awful and offers almost no advantages over;Shadow Ball.
- Psychic is a good charged move, but it has no utility on Gengar.
- Shadow Punch,;Gengar’s Community Day move, is too weak to be useful on offense.
How To Catch Gengar In Pokemon Go
Gengar, as well as its pre-evolution Haunter, spawn very rarely during dark times but due to their rarity, farming Ghastly candy with incense is far easier. Getting 100 Gastly candy will let you evolve a Haunter into Gengar, and 25 candy will turn one of your many Ghastlys into a Haunter if you dont already have one.

Can Gengar Be Shiny In Pokemon Go
The simple answer is yes.
Shiny Gengars tenure in Pokemon GO is fast approaching three years, with the spooky Pokemon releasing as part of a special Raid Day back in November 2018.
Players had their best opportunity of getting a shiny Gengar back in July last year as Gastly featured as the Community Day Pokemon.
Sadly, Shiny Gengar isnt much to look at, turning only a slightly different shade of purple however when Shiny Gengar Mega Evolves, thats when the main differences happen, with many lauding it as the best looking Shiny Mega Pokemon.

Which Moves Will Compliment This Ghost
Gengars best quick move option is Lick. Its a legacy move at the moment, so trainers will need an Elite TM to get this move. Fortunately for players, none of the other moves in this moveset require an Elite TM, so trainers can save that resource for other Pokemon.
Hex does more damage, but is significantly slower than Lick, which is only a 500 ms move. After STAB is calculated, Gengar ends up doing 12 DPS with Lick as well as charges 12 Energy. Thats a large amount of Energy from one of the weaker moves, and it will give Gengar access to its powerful charge moves that much faster.
The charge move that requires the least amount of explanation for Gengar should be Shadow Ball. Its flat out the strongest Ghost-type move Gengar has at its disposal. Very few Pokemon can match the damage output that Gengar has with a 100 base power move with STAB that only requires 50 Energy. Gengar is just about guaranteed to drop multiple Shadow Balls in every match.
There was a small debate as to whether or not Shadow Punch was a potential alternative when it was released. It has nowhere near the power that Shadow Ball has, but it only requires 33.3 Energy, so some trainers thought that being able to use three Shadow Punches would mean more damage.
Gengar has a couple options for its second charge move. Focus Blast has the most utility, though. Being a Fighting-type move, this will allow Gengar to counter Normal-type Pokemon like Snorlax and Regigigas.
Gengar Guide Pokemon Unite

Best Gengar Held Items In Pokemon Unite
Because Gengars core strategy revolves around the Sludge Bomb and Hex combo, players should choose the Wise Glasses;Held Item to increase its Sp. Atk. Since the character will be spamming Special Attacks, this buff is insanely useful.
Shell Bell is the next item we recommend. Not only does it boost the Sp. Atk stat, it also heals a substantial amount of HP. Even better, the total heal points given back are based on how high your special attack stat is, which is already buffed with Wise Glasses and Shell Bell.
Finally, Trainers should bring the Sp. Atk, Specs into battle. Since Gengar will be scoring a lot anyways due to its speed, the item permanently increases its Sp. Atk stat each time you land a goal point. All three items listed above feed into each other, making your mon an absolute beast on the battlefield.

Using The Pokemon Rankings
In the top-level rankings, you’ll see a score for each Pokemon. This score is an overall performance number from 0 to 100, where 100 is the best Pokemon in that league and category. It is derived from simulating every possible matchup, with each Pokemon’s most used moveset . Use this score to compare overall performance between Pokemon; for example, the difference between the #1 and #50 Pokemon may not be the same as the difference between the #50 and #100 Pokemon. This score also allows you to see the parity in different leagues and categories.
Trainer Battles feature a wide variety of scenarios, especially involving shields. In order to give a fuller picture, our overall rankings are derived from additional sets of rankings, where battles are simulated with different roles in mind. You can explore rankings for each of the following categories:
Different Pokemon may succeed in different scenarios, so use these categories to help determine when a particular Pokemon would be the most valuable.
Within each ranking, you’ll see four separate detail sections:

Best Moveset For Gengar And Mega Gengar In Pokmon Go
What are the best moves to use?
Image via Niantic
While the stats of a Pokémon in Pokémon Go make a choice powerful, the types of attacks and movesets are unique to each choice. Not every Pokémon knows the same moves, limiting the attacks they can use in combat. Gengar is one of those Pokémon who has several unique choices available to you, and you want it to use the best ones available to it. When it Mega-Evolves, it receives a hefty power boost, and Gengar and Mega Gengar share the same moveset. What is the best combination yours can learn?
Gengar is a Ghost and Poison-type Pokémon. It has a maximum CP of 2,878, an attack of 261, a defense of 149, and stamina of 155. It has several resistances, making it a great counter to some of the more powerful Pokémon you regularly see in the Great and Ultra battle league. Mega Gengar has a maximum CP of 4,336, an attack of 349, a defense of 199, and stamina of 155. Unfortunately, you wont be able to use Gengars Mega-Evolved form against other players, but you can use it in various raids.
These are all of the moves Gengar and Mega Gengar can learn.

Best Held Items For Gengar In Pokmon Unite Explained
When it comes to selecting held items for Gengar in Pokémon Unite, you’ll want to choose items which will increase its attack power and offer a healing boost.
For the attack boosts, we suggest choosing the Wise Glasses, which increases special attack, and Scope Lens, which increases your critical-hit damage. This is because Gengar’s most powerful attacks are it’s main attacks, like Sludge Bomb, so you’ll want to capitalize on the damage they cause. You could also choose the Sp. Attack Specs, but this will only provide a boost after you’ve scored a goal.
For a healing item, we recommend choosing either the Leftovers or a Shell Bell. The difference between them is that while Leftovers restores health outside of combat, the Shell Bell will restore health every time you land a hit, so your preference comes to your style of play.
Shell Bell is perfect for those who like to jump into combat, while Leftovers is ideal for players who prefer the stealth approach.
Outspeed And Punish Slower Foes
Even from just its base stats, Gengar’s Speed is relatively high. Unfortunately, its Speed is still not high enough to hit faster than other top-tier Pokemon, especially Dragapult. This limits Gengar to roles like wearing out enemies’ Dynamax turns, and using Status Moves like Will-O-Wisp and Icy Wind to lend support to its teammates.

Gengar Build: Our Recommendations For The Best Gengar Moveset In Pokmon Unite
Gengar falls into the Speedster class of Pokémon Unite, so, stat wise, its highest are mobility and offense. It’s also classified as being an expert level Pokémon, so it’s worth practicing with Gengar before using it in a Ranked match.
One of Gengar’s greatest strengths is its ability to inflict status conditions upon its foes. Be it poisoning an enemy or putting them to sleep, Gengar can put its opponent at a disadvantage with one quick move. For this reason, you’ll want to incorporate at least one move which includes a status condition into your Gengar build.
The downside to Gengar is that, like Gardevoir and Greninja, it’s only able to unleash its full potential in the later stages of a match when it’s fully evolved and has a complete moveset. Due to this, you should spend the first part of the match focusing on attacking wild Pokémon, so you can level it up and unlock its moveset.
Try to stay within the middle sections of the map, because there should be an ample number of wild Pokémon and it’s easier to avoid the opposing team here. Remember – you can also see the wild Pokémon locations on your mini-map.
For more information about Gengar’s evolution line, visit the next section.
Gengar’s ability, Levitate, thankfully increases its movement speed outside of combat, so you can catch up with your teammates if you’re knocked out. It’s also quite useful for quickly sneaking up to a goal!
When the match begins, you need to choose between Will-O-Wisp and Lick.
