That is a lot of work for a small Pokémon, but Meltan and its evolved form, Melmetal, is the only Mythical Pokémon that can be placed in gyms. Meltan isnt super great at attacking or defending and is more of a Pokédex filler, but Melmetal is a pretty OK defender. It does, however, require 400 candy to evolve, so unless youre planning on walking a lot with a Meltan, you should work on grabbing extra Meltan through other methods.
How To Catch Meltan
The key to getting a Meltan in Let’s Go involves connecting the games to Pokemon Go. As previously mentioned, you can link the mobile title to Let’s Go via Bluetooth and transfer any Gen 1 Pokemon you’ve captured there over to the Switch games. The Pokemon you’ve transferred will then appear in the Go Park, a new facility that replaces the Safari Zone in Fuchsia City. See our full guide to connecting Go and Let’s Go for more details.
To begin a transfer, simply speak to the receptionist at the front desk of the Go Park and follow the on-screen prompts. This is a one-way process; any Pokemon you send from Go to Let’s Go can’t be returned to the mobile game. However, you’ll need to complete at least one transfer in order to catch Meltan, as sending a Pokemon to Let’s Go will reward you with a special item in Go: the Mystery Box.
The Mystery Box is the key to summoning Meltan in Pokemon Go. Once opened, the Mythical Pokemon will begin appearing in the wild for a limited time, and you’ll be able to capture it just as you would any other monster. However, you’ll need to act quickly to catch as many as you can; the Mystery Box only remains open for 30 minutes, and you’ll need to wait a full seven days before you can activate it again by transferring another Pokemon.

Pokémon GO introduces new creatures all the time, but these ones are different. Meltan and Melmetal, just introduced on Friday, are something different. They’re not just new;Pokémon for;Pokémon GO, they’re new;Pokémon period: brand-new character designs meant as a cross-promotion for Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, a set of new games just released for the Nintendo Switch. As far as cross-promotion goes, it’s a no-brainer: a unique;Pokémon tied to a new;Pokémon game just sort of makes sense.
And yet the idea also raises the ever-present issue of “pay-to-win” for free-to-play games.;At first, it seemed like Niantic had engineered Meltan’s introduction to;Pokémon GO carefully to avoid the appearance of gating one of its creatures behind a $60 game and a $299 console. That’s the idea behind the special research it introduced on the same day;Pokémon Let’s Go came out: it was a new, special creature, but you could still get it if you completed a reasonably difficult quest line. Which works for Meltan, but raises a thorny issue for its evolution, Melmetal.
You can get the mystery box by linking to a friend’s copy of Let’s Go, but it’s an imperfect solution: you would need to go on your local;Pokémon GO social media group to find a willing stranger if you don’t know someone directly, and not everyone wants to do that. And you’ll need to do it multiple times to get the full evolution.
What Is Meltan And How Was Meltan First Revealed
The mysterious Meltan appeared in the wild in Pokémon Go at the conclusion of the September Community Day, flooding the map en mass.
Though it seemed like a regular creature – complete with its own animations, and even appearing on the Nearby radar – there were a few key differences:

How To Get Meltan And Melmetal In Pokmon Sword And Shield Thanks To Pokmon Home
The mythicals finally arrive.
Thanks to Pokémon Home and some crazy, convoluted trading mechanics, trainers can finally get Meltan and Melmetal in Pokémon Sword and Shieldbut itll require you to own another Pokémon game in the series.
Since Pokémon Go transfers arent available to Pokémon Home at time of writing, youll need to go through a long drawn-out process using the Lets Go games to add these creatures to your teams.
First, you need to have captured a Meltan or Melmetal in Pokémon Go through the weird mystery box feature of the game and transferred either Pokémon to Pokémon: Lets Go, Pikachu! or Lets Go, Eevee! on your Nintendo Switch.
Next, after opening Pokémon Home, you need to transfer that Meltan from the Lets Go games into a Home box. Then, transfer it from Pokémon Home to Sword and Shield, where youll finally be able to use it.
Meltan and Melmetal will only receive their abilities after being transferred to Sword and Shield, so you wont know its stats until then. You also cant transfer it back to Lets Go after doing this process.
How To Evolve Meltan Into Melmetal
Little known fact: Meltan is the first Mythical Pokémon that can evolve into a greater form. It’s known as Melmetal when evolved. It becomes substantially bigger and keeps its steel type upon evolving.
It also has a unique special steel-type move called Double Iron Bash. This physical move sees Melmetal using the hex nut in its chest to spin its arms around, building up enough force to unleash a powerful double strike on its opponent. The move has a chance to make opponents flinch.
As cute as Meltan is, you’ll likely want the much more capable evolution Melmetal at some point down the line. The only way Meltan can evolve into Melmetal is by feeding it candies in Pokémon GO.
You’ll get Melmetal by feeding it 400 of those candies. You can earn candies for each Meltan you send to Professor Willow, by walking around with Meltan as your buddy Pokémon, as well as by transferring Meltan from Pokémon GO to Pokémon: Let’s Go.
You’ll also be able to use rare candies and get candies by trading Meltan to friends. Once you’ve amassed 400 candies, press the Evolve button on Meltan’s profile screen. From here, you can either keep it in Pokémon GO or send it back to your Pokémon: Let’s Go game.

‘pokmon Go’ Meltan: How To Catch New Pokmon
Meltan and its evolution Melmetal were the biggest surprises to come during the lead up to the Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee release date.

HOW TO CATCH MELTAN
The first order of business is to pair your Pokémon Go and Let’s Go together. You can get the steps to do that, here.
Once your games are paired, you simply have to make one transfer from Pokémon Go to Let’s Go. Again, the process of transferring is covered in the above guide. After a successful transfer, your Pokémon Go account will receive that Pokémon’s candy, some experience and a Mystery Box.
This Mystery Box is key to catching Meltan. Trainers can only get one Mystery Box per week, but when you have one you simply have to activate it from your Items list to start catching some Meltan.
Opening the Mystery Box will put a Lure around your trainer in Pokémon Go. For 30 minutes, you’ll have Meltan attracted to your avatar allowing you to catch as many of the Mythical Pokémon as possible within the window.
And once you’ve captured Meltan, you can transfer it over to Pokémon Let’s Go to use in your game.

The trainers with Pokemon let can send Pokemon from Pokemon Go to Nintendo switch. Like transferring the pokemon to Professor Willow, the trainers will earn candy to send their Pokemon to the switch. These pokemons will appear in the Go Park complex of your Pokemon Letâs Go.
Rewarding you for sending Pokemon to the switch, you will receive the meltan box pokemon go. This mystery box will allow you to catch the mythical pokemon.

Step 1: The first step you need to take to connect the Pokemon Go to Switch is to launch the Pokemon Letâs Go from the Home Menu.

Once the machines are synced, it’s easy enough to transfer Pokemon. Take control in Let’s Go on the Switch and head to the GO Park complex in Fuschia City. Enter the complex and press Bring Pokemon. At that point switch to your phone – and because the machines are synced up there’ll be a clear icon of a Switch on the Pokemon menu screen.
