Good Grass Type Pokemon Sword

Must read

Applin Flapple And Appletun

The BEST Grass Type Pokemon in Pokemon Sword & Shield | Pokésports

Ah, to be the Applin of someone’s eye… Anyway, these Pokémon are the only Grass/Dragon-types in existence and both have Gigantamax forms making them incredibly special. Applin is also quite rare, likely because giving an Applin to one’s true love is a sign of deep affection leads to a low amount of them in the wild. For players lucky enough to catch one, they must give them a special item to evolve them into their final form. Just please don’t try to eat them, that would hurt the poor darlings…

Appletun Best Grass Pokemon In Sword And Shield

Appletun is the defensive-minded evolutionary path of everyones favorite delicious-looking Dragon apple Pokemon.

Appletun is similar to Ludicolo in a way in that it seems designed to annoy the crap out of opposing players with access to lots of recovery moves, and it also has great defensive typing and natural tankiness to take a beating.

You can go with either Thick Fat to add resistance to Fire and turn the crippling 4x Ice weakness into just a regular 2x one or you can opt for the evolutionary lines signature ability, Ripen, which doubles the effect of berries. Personally though we think it might be a better fit on the other Applin-line Pokemon

What To Do With Watts

If you’re wondering what Watts are in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield, you have good reason to. The games don’t really tell you what Watts are, even as you’re accruing them by completing Max Raids.

Watts are basically your currency in The Wild Area, and you’ll use them to purchase items from Vendors scattered randomly around The Wild Area, including:

  • Curry ingredients
  • Wishing Stone
  • Rotom Bike upgrades so you can explore further

The Digging Duo near the Daycare will excavate an area of cliffside in exchange for 500 Watts, and they’ll bring back various items ranging from Pokemon fossils to evolution items and stones.

You’ll earn Watts from participating in Max Raids and examining glowing Dens that don’t have a light beam coming out of them, so there’s no fear of never having enough.

Pokemon Sword And Shield Max Raids

Max Raids are one of The Wild Area’s key features. You’ve probably seen something about them in the lead-up to the games’ release. These are 4-on-1 battles against Dynamaxed Pokemon. They take place at PokemonDens, the glowing areas that have beams of light coming out of them. Max Raids are ranked with stars, and the higher the Max Raid level, the higher the chance that Pokemon will have perfect IV levels.

Depending on the Pokemon, there’s also a chance it’ll have the ability to Gigantamax.

The thing about Max Raids is they require four trainers. Connecting with others in The Wild Area is pretty easy and seamless, but if you don’t have three other people to take part, the game provides you with NPC allies instead.

I can’t say how effective these NPCs are in very high-level Raids, but so far, the ones I’ve been matched with are competent enough and typically have at least one usually more Pokemon or movesets that exploit the opponent’s type weaknesses.

Whittle the opponent’s HP down to zero, and you get the chance to catch it. There are other, equally important rewards as well. Winning a Max Raid could potentially get you

  • Experience Candies of various sizes
  • Dynamax Candy
  • Technical Records

Pokemon Sword And Shield Best Early Pokemon Guide

Pokemon Sword and Shield offers players three basic starting Pokemon, a fire type, a grass type or a water type to choose from. However, you need to get more Pokemon of other types and species to stand against gym leaders as you progress through the game. Since you can easily find many Pokemon just roaming around before the first gym leader, Milo, it can be difficult to figure out which ones to add to your party. We have compiled a list of Pokemon Sword and Shield Best Early Pokemon for you.

Pokemon Sword And Shield: The Wild Area Guide

You’re first given access to The Wild Area right after you battle Hop for the second time and meet with Professor Magnolia. There’s very little explanation of what to do and where to go when you enter the area, and since this is before you even get to your first Gym battle, you’re limited with the Pokemon you can catch .

That being said, there’s still a lot you can do as you explore and figure out how everything works.

Evolving Fomantis: Enter Lurantis

Players tired of Fomantis and its cuteness can look forward to obtaining their stronger evolution, Lurantis. Contrary to Fomantis, Lurantis has a more lady-like frame, now boasting more pinks compared to greens. Trainers looking for an ace in the hole in their Contests could definitely rely on Lurantis to do the job – at least aesthetically.

Rillaboom Best Grass Pokemon In Sword And Shield

EVERY GRASS TYPE POKEMON IN SWORD AND SHIELD (if I got to pick them)

Rillaboom is a powerful, hard-hitting monotype Grass Pokemon thats held back a bit by its Speed. If it had its Hidden Ability, Grassy Surge, which would summon grass terrain on switch in it would likely be higher up on this list as that would be a fairly unique niche. Until then, Rillaboom is very straightforward to use.

Take advantage of its diverse physical movepool which includes Woodhammer, Superpower, Knock Off, High Horsepower, U-Turn and more. If a bulky physical hitting Grass type is what your team needs, you can do a lot worse than Rillaboom.

Keep an eye out for when that hidden ability is released though.

Pokemon Sword And Shield Type Chart

Our Pokemon Sword and Shield Type Chart features the full details on what you need to know to take advantage of the strength and weaknesses of every Pokemon type in the game. You will want to have this information handy when you head into more difficult battles, so we offer this information in image and table form.

Each Pokemon has at least one type . These types not only determine how strong the Pokemon will be against other types, but how well they will be able to take damage from them. You’ll also notice that certain Pokemon will only spawn in specific areas, which is largely because of their type.

Types are very important when using attacking abilities on other Pokemon. If you have a super effective move, you will deal double the normal amount of damage. A not very effective move will deal half the amount of damage to the target. A not effective move means that the target is immune to it and it will deal no damage.

Some Pokemon can take 4x damage from a move if the type does double the damage to both types. For example, a flying type move will hit for quadruple the damage on a bug/grass Pokemon! That means you’ll need to be extra careful against that type. This can also be used defensively, where you can take less or no damage if the Pokemon taking damage has a type that is good defensively against a specific type.

Abilities: The Sun Is Their Friend

Pokemon Sword & Shield: Best Grass Pokemon

When acquired, Fomantis can boast some pretty handy Abilities. Players need to take note that these Abilities can be very specific in nature, though – meaning, they’ve got to take note where battles take place if they want to capitalize on these certain Abilities.

  • Leaf Guard. This Ability helps Fomantis endure status effects that occur during harsh sunlight. Given the nature of various battlefields in Sword and Shield, fights that happen in harsh sunlight tend to be extremely rare.
  • Contrary. This Ability helps Fomantis transform status conditions have the opposite effect. This can transform debilitating conditions into helpful buffs for them.

The Wild Area: Super Strong Pokemon

The Wild Area is also home to a broad variety of super strong Pokemon. These are usually evolved forms of some kind like Gengar, Weavile, Machamp, the Eeveelutions, and so on.

Not only are they also far stronger than the usual strong Pokemon you’ll encounter, but they’re typically not found in the grass either. These wander about the roads and paths away from the grass. If you spot one, make sure you’re well prepared before engaging it.

Whatever your choice, The Wild Area is a great and easy way to level up new catches that need some attention or that you want to evolve to fill out your Pokedex.

Flapple Best Grass Pokemon In Sword And Shield

Flapple is the attacker of the two lines sporting respectable 110 Attack and 95 Special Attack stat lines while still hanging onto the defensively strong Grass/Dragon typing.

Grave Apple is a handy new move that not only hits hard, but also lowers the defense of the opposing Pokemon, making it risky to stick around with Flapple for too long.

It really needs to take advantage of Dragon Dance and Ripen/Hustle though to hang because its Speed stat is too low at 70 to be a sweep threat until it pumps those numbers up.

Pokemon Camp In The Wild Area

Another feature you’ve probably seen a bit about is Pokemon Camp in The Wild Area. Sonia gives you your camping kit as soon as you enter The Wild Area, and you’re free to camp anytime you want. Sword and Shield‘s day/night cycle is still measured by your Switch’s internal clock, so you won’t be making time pass no matter how often you camp.

Camping is an easy way to restore your team’s health without using items and takes the place of Pokemon Refresh from Sun and Moon as well, letting you play games and chat with your ‘mon to increase their friendship levels.

The big draw here, though, is curry making. We’ll have more on that soon, but making curry in Pokemon Sword and Shield is a fun and useful mini-game that sees you combine berries and ingredients, mix them together like Poffins, then reap rewards like friendship boosts if you didn’t create something appallingly atrocious.

Is Oddish Or Bulbasaur Better

How Pokemon Sword and Shield Can Fix the Grass Type

Although Bulbasaur is a decent Pokémon for a new trainer, Oddish is even easier to train, especially because of its small move set and cute design. New trainers desire Oddish so that they can easily learn about Pokémon battling, and it is a Grass-type that is easy to manage because of its small pool of moves.

Is Lurantis A Good Pokmon

Taking after Fomantis, Lurantis is once again quite the peculiar Grass Type Pokémon. Unlike other Pokémon of their Type, Lurantis doesn’t have anything particularly exceptional to offer during combat. Regardless of these circumstances, players looking for a reliable Grass Type to take on more difficult battles may very well want to add Lurantis to their party and make particular changes to its moveset and stats.

The Basics Of Fomantis

Fomantis graced the franchise back in the release of Sun and Moon, remaining as one of the cutest new additions among Generation VII Pokémon. And despite its diminutive and childish appearance, Fomantis does boast the potential to be one of the best support Pokémon anyone could have in their team. As the saying goes, Trainers shouldn’t judge a Pokémon by their cuteness.
