In a Sword and Shield Japanese Pokémon booster box you are almost guaranteed to find:
That means when opening a Sword and Shield Japanese expansion you are highly likely to receive 15 cards that are R rarity or higher.
Likewise, for Sun and Moon expansions you will almost always receive the following 15 rares:
- 11 R Cards
- 3 RR Cards
- 1 SR/HR/UR Card
This is already great value for those of us that want to cut down on the number of bulk cards that you open and takes out some of the uncertainty of what you can expect to receive when opening a Pokémon booster box.
However, the value of opening Japanese Pokémon booster packs shoots through the roof when we start to look at the pull rates for special sets such as Legendary Heartbeat.

Expert Deck: Leafeon vs. Metagross is a set of two 60-card decks with a CD for online play. In addition to being more powerful than most theme decks, the Leafeon and Metagross decks have special cards that werent released in any other Japanese sets. There are also Battle Starter decks, which were released with special cards only available to their specific deck. The decks are named Offense , Defense , Speed , and Skill .

How To Tell Card Condition For Japanese Cards
Japan, unlike Western countries, doesnt have a widely known ranking system for card condition, such as the PSA. That means Japanese card sellers wont probably provide information in a standardized way. As mentioned earlier, there are more players than collectors in Japan, so card condition is not as important as in other countries. With that being said, a card still loses value when damaged, so its better to be careful if the price seems too good to be true. In most cases, though, the seller will give a short description of the cards condition, which can quickly be found out by pasting the text into an online translator.

However, there is an easy way to tell how much a Japanese standard format card should be worth. There are an endless number of Western websites that sell English language Pokemon cards and the prices on those sites can give you a general idea of how much the Japanese cards are worth if you go by this simple pricing rule:
English Pokemon EX Card Price x 5066% = Japanese Pokemon EX Card Price
English Trainer Card Price x 150200% = Japanese Trainer Card Price
The reason for the difference in prices is because the Japanese Pokemon community has relatively fewer collectors and more players, which leads to a higher demand for Trainer cards and playable Pokemon staple cards for deckbuilding, whereas the pull rates for EX cards are much better than in English booster backs.

Sometimes pricing a Japanese card can be very hard, but if you follow the simple pricing formula above, you can usually have a good idea of what a card is worth, regardless of whether you are looking to buy or sell.
In some rare cases you might get a cheaper deal from a local seller in your country, especially for extremely playable cards, but for most cards checking a Japanese auction proxy site, like FROM JAPAN, will give you cheaper options.

Shipping Pokmon Cards From Japan
This is an obvious one, but I thought it best to mention it anyway. Depending on where you live in the world, you may have access to a local shop that stocks Japanese Pokémon booster boxes.
If not, you can always order them online from Japan, but that is going to be an additional shipping cost compared to buying local English booster boxes.
On average, a Japanese booster box is around 300 grams in weight and so shipping costs arent normally too bad.
Since Japanese booster boxes are cheaper to buy at around $50, my recommendation would just to buy 3 booster boxes at a time or however much you would normally spend on buying a booster box locally.
That way, you will probably end up saving a little on shipping rather than having each booster box shipped over to you one at a time.
If we were to ignore the fact that I actually live in Japan for a moment, if you were to ask which I would prefer to buy, I would buy Japanese Pokémon cards.
Not only are Japanese Pokémon cards cheaper than English Pokémon cards, but as someone that doesnt often play matches of paper Pokémon anymore, Japanese cards make more sense formy needs.
As Im no longer an active player of the game, I dont feel like I miss out on much with regards to not getting the free virtual packs for Pokémon TCG online and I havent played in an officially sanctioned tournament for a couple of years now.
Be careful though, once you start its hard to turn back!

Can you make money buying booster boxes? Yes, but it is not easy, and the likelihood your profits will make you wealthy is slim. Unless, of course, you are willing to sit on that box for a while.
For Full Box Resale
Buying genuine sealed boxes of booster cards in pristine condition is worth the investment if you are willing to wait for that money. While you wait, those boxes of cards need to be stored well until they are harder to find, and the value goes up.
Like any other collectible, rarer and harder to find items are more valuable, BUT condition does matter.
Selling a full sealed box of Pokémon cards can earn you a nice chunk of cash, but you also run the risk of your booster box containing an exceedingly rare card.
If this happens, you may get less from selling a full box of Pokemon cards than you would have received for the one exceedingly rare card.
For Individual Card Resale
It is also possible to collect individual cards for resale, and booster boxes are a great way to do this. Just purchase booster boxes and open each pack of cards to see which are profitable to resell. Again, these cards must be in good condition!

A special group of Japanese cards fall under the promotional category and are given out at tournaments, as magazine freebies, at Pokemon events, or as gifts when buying Pokemon merchandise at one of the Pokemon Centers. They are rarely valuable due to broad distribution and uselessness for players. There are some exceptions, though, that hardly ever make it outside of Japan, either because of their value to players, like the Muscle Band card which was given out at the Battle Festa 2013 to players that did very well and has since reached a top price of up to $50 USD.
Others like the Battle Festa Pikachu or the Pikachu card that was given out during the Mega Campaign in 2014 in the Pokemon Center Mega Tokyo never increased in value. Even though they peaked at $45 and $30 USD, respectively, in Japan their resale value stayed at ¥1000 and ¥200 , respectively.
