All Pokmon Games On Nintendo Switch

I’ve been a Pokémon fan since I first got my hands on Red and Blue in elementary school. Whether you’re a new Pokémon enthusiast or a veteran like me, there’s so much for you to enjoy as these are some of the best Nintendo Switch games. Anyone excited for upcoming games should preorder Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. They’re remakes of the Gen 4 games and include an adorable chibi art style that pays homage to the original adventure.

If I had to recommend only one game, it would have to be either Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield. These Gen 8 games are the third-highest-selling Pokémon games after Red and Blue, and Gold and Silver. Plus, they introduce the Wild Area, sections of the map where Pokémon can be seen walking around in the overworld. If you have a Nintendo Switch Online membership, you can even jump into Max Raid Dens and catch Pokémon with others online.

For anyone who was a huge fan of the original RPGs, I cannot recommend Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Let’s Go, Eevee! enough. You get to explore the Kanto region in an all-new adventure with either a special Pikachu or a special Eevee at your side. You’ll take down Team Rocket, explore the original eight gyms, and can even see Pokémon wandering around in the overworld. Note that fighting is mostly removed from wild Pokémon battles and reserved for trainer or gym battles instead.

Pokemon Snap Hasn’t Changed In 20 Years That’s A Great Thing

New Pokemon Snap is the long awaited sequel to N64 cult classic and, despite there being 22 years, 7 generations and roughly 750 new Pokemon since the original’s release, the fundamentals of the game haven’t changed much. You’re still inside a capsule vehicle that treks along a fixed path, your and, most importantly, it still rules.

Like many gamers who flocked to buy New Pokemon Snap on Friday, I played the original on the N64. My heart was excited for New Pokemon Snap, but my brain was weary. I had it all wrong. New Pokemon Snap is a reinvigorating vacation for your brain, one that works because it’s so full of heart. Remind you of anything?

Despite being a sequel, New Pokemon Snap reminded me of a completely different game: Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Like Animal Crossing, the appeal of New Pokemon Snap cannot be explained with words alone. Like Animal Crossing, New Pokemon Snap is more satisfying than it should be. Like Animal Crossing, New Pokemon Snap is just nice.

New Pokemon Snap Announced For Nintendo Switch

The sequel you always wanted but never expected

Pokemon Snap is coming to Nintendo Switch through a new game appropriately titled New Pokemon Snap, developed by Pokken Tournament creator Bandai Namco.

New Pokemon Snap was announced during Nintendo and The Pokemon Company’s big June 17 Pokemon Presents show. It’s still very much a work in progress, so the footage shown was not final, but it’s clear that the sequel follows the same basic structure as the original. You tour different islands in a hovercraft of sorts while snapping photos of Pokemon.

Thats right, Trainers#PokemonSnapIsBack! #NewPokemonSnap is an all-new adventure inspired by the classic Nintendo 64 game. Grab your camera, and get ready to photograph Pokémon while exploring beautiful islands on Nintendo Switch! https://t.co/7lqjl7saf0 pic.twitter.com/p6oJgmwZ8d

A few returning features were also shown in the announcement trailer, like the ability to entreat Pokemon with special apples in order to bring them closer. In the original game, you could use these apples and other throwables to trigger changes in Pokemon and the environment, so here’s hoping that adaptability is back too.

It’s clear that New Pokemon Snap will feature many generations of Pokemon, with first-gens like Pikachu and current-gens like Scorbunny appearing in the trailer. There are a few Pokemon from just about every generation, in fact, but it’s unclear how many Pokemon in total will be included.

The Original Pokemon Snap Is Coming To Nintendo Switch Online

Enjoyed New Pokemon Snap? Now you can experience old Pokemon Snap

The original Pokemon Snap game is heading to Nintendo Switch Online next week.

Announced via a tweet from all of the various Nintendo accounts, the Nintendo 64 version of Pokemon Snap will be heading to the Nintendo Switch Online N64 library on June 24, 2022. Just like in New Pokemon Snap, which released in 2021, the original version sees players ride around on a rail as they snap photos of various Pokemon.

Oh snap! Sharpen your photography skills, because Pokémon Snap comes to #NintendoSwitchOnline + Expansion Pack 24/06! pic.twitter.com/c7aXeZVE3r

Although a fairly faithful adaptation, the original and new Pokemon Snap games do differ a little. Firstly, there arent nearly the same amount of Pokemon to snap in the older version, which is fair considering there was only one generation of Pokemon back in 1999. A lot of the quality-of-life features of New Pokemon Snap are exclusive to the Switch version too, so you may have to do things the long way or be restricted with a few features in the older version.

If youre wondering how to get your hands on the Switch’s N64 game library, heres a quick explanation. To play Pokemon Snap, youll need to have an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion membership.

Look At This Photograph

Its still a bit jarring that there has been two decades between Pokémon Snap games. The first was a highlight in any Nintendo 64 collection it was a quick, fast, instantly understandable game. Hop in a buggy, roll through the wilds of the Pokémon world, and photograph as much ambient Pokémon wildlife as you can, then laugh as Professor Oak throws your photos in the trash.

New Pokémon Snap feels both old and new. There are new sights to see, new Pokémon to photograph, and new tools to encourage Pokémon into more interesting reactions or interactions. The graphics and effects are obviously much nicer, and there is more happening on-screen than the N64 couldve handled.

Yet its still the same old Pokémon Snap. It is an on-rails photography experience that encourages multiple attempts and determination to nail shot after shot. I still spent a fair amount of time just tuning in the right trajectories to lob app- excuse me, Fluffruit at wild Pokémon. Id take a shot I swore was gorgeous enough to hang in the Poke-MoMA, and the professor would say the subject wasnt centered or large enough and give me a paltry bronze rating.

Same as it ever was, New Pokémon Snap is still a Snap game. Its also a very good one.

New Pokmon Snap Review

It’s been 22 years since the original Pokémon Snap and with each passing console generation fans had never given up hope for a possible sequel. Why is that? It wasn’t a long game, it didn’t have that many levels, only had a small pool of Pokémon and the base gameplay was simply about taking pictures. On paper, Pokémon Snap sounds basic and it seems there’s an entire generation who don’t get the appeal. To put it simply, Snap presents Pokémon in their purest form it lets Pokémon be Pokémon without any strings of battling attached something no other entry even attempts.

That’s what made the original game so special, we had never seen Pokémon divorced from humans in such a natural way, there were so many iconic moments that were exhilarating to catch with the perfect frame on camera. We learned each level inside and out, mastering where every creature would spawn and when they would strike a special pose. There was simply no other game quite like it and it’s gone down in history as possibly the greatest Pokémon spinoff, if we discount Pokémon Puzzle League.

And now we’ve played through New Pokémon Snap and it still feels like we’re living a dream. But no, 22 years have passed and we finally have its sequel. With such a weight on its shoulders can it possibly live up to such a legacy? Remarkably, yeah, it can.
