A good lead Pokemon is one that will hit the ground running, and more importantly, baiting out your opponent’s shields early. Ideally you’ll want Pokemon with a lot of pressure, and which charge their stronger attacks much faster, while being able to handle what the enemy throws at them.
It’s almost impossible to consistently guess type advantage when there’s no restrictions in place other than CP level. so focus on overall effectiveness. We think these four are solid choices.

The Pokémon GO battle league is here, and all of a sudden Im playing PvP again. I had largely given up on the feature when you needed to do it either in-person or with close friends, but now Im obsessively ranking up and questing after that rare Deino at rank 7. To do that, however, Im going to have to win, and its going to be hard. Right now, were working with the Great League, which is a vast, unwieldy beast. It requires that all Pokémon be under 1,500 CP, so the majority of Pokémon in the game are potential competitors. The list of solid options is wide, but some definitely exceed others. Lets take a look at some of the best competitors in the game.
A note first: these are good competitors regardless, but you need good competitors and a good team, both. Think about type coverage: if youre leading with Altaria, youll be weak to ice, so youll want a fighting type in the mix. There are a ton of potential fighters in the game, and this is not a comprehensive list. But choose a well-rounded team from this list and you can probably do well. Also, IVs dont really matter unless youre getting very, very granular, but CP does. You want to get as close as possible to 1,500 without going over.

How To Enter The Pokmon Go Battle League
The Pokémon Go Battle League has its own icon on the main menu screen now. Just click Battle, and you’re in. Normally, any player can enter and complete their first five Battles for free. After completing those first five Battles, however, Players are supposed to have to earn additional Battle Sets. Because of the global pandemic, Niantic has suspended walking requirements.
Using The Move Rankings
Each Pokemon has a pool of Fast Moves and a pool of Charged Moves. Some moves might be better in one battle, and other moves might be better in another. For Trainer Battles, you’ll want know which moves will be the best ones to have in the most matchups. You might also want to know which Pokemon are the best candidates for a second Charged Move. The move details within each Pokemon ranking can help you determine that.
Moves are ranked using calculations primarily based on their damage and energy cost. Stat changes are also factored in. These calculations are run for each matchup, and then totaled across the format. Matchup weighting affects these numbers as well, so moves that would be used against significant meta targets will rank higher.
When looking at potential moves, keep an eye out for Pokemon that have a strong tendency toward a single Fast Move and a single Charged Move. These Pokemon will have their optimal moveset in the most matchups. On the other hand, some Pokemon see more balanced usage in their Charged Moves. This is where having a second Charged Move comes into play.
As an exercise, select any one Pokemon in the Team Builder tool and compare its battle histograms when it has one Charged Move and when it has two. If a second Charged Move improves its matchups, it might be one worth investing in.

Who Is The Best Pokmon Go Great League Lead

First up is our tier list of the five best Pokémon GO Great League leads. These are Pokémon who you’ll send out to inflict instant, blistering damage on opponents in the early stages. This can be useful in using up opponent shields early on, leaving them open to attacks in the later stages.
As you can see, we went for Medicham as the sole best Pokémon GO Great League leads. If you can manage to get one with a 3-star appraisal, then its rapid-fire moves like Counter and especially Dynamic Punch can be hugely damaging. It’s also a Pokémon that very neatly fits into the upper boundaries of the Great League requirements, as its Level 40 maximum CP is 1,431. If you manage to get Psychic as the heavy attack as well, you’ll be in for a very easy run in the Great League.
Great League Tier List
With around 700 different entries in Pokemon Gos roster, its difficult to pinpoint which options are Battle League-ready and which are better off as pets. In this Great League Tier List, well be ranking Pokemon based on six different tiers. Because of the sheer volume of Pokemon available, were only going to mention those that fall in tiers S, A, B, and C. If a Pokemon isnt on the list, that means they fall in D-Tier. S-Tier Pokemon are the most optimal for the Great League, given their skill set and current stats. On the other hand, D-Tier Pokemon have subpar abilities that do little against other Pokemon. Finally, remember that these Pokemon need under 1,500 CP to participate in the Great League!

A Beginners Guide To The Go Battle League
First off, know that you will only be able to take three Pokémon into battle, unlike the six in a Raid Party. Youll also have two Shields that you can use at any time to defend against an opponents Charged Attack. In other words, the mechanics of a PvP Battle are very similar to that of a GO Rocket Battle, but youll probably find your real-life opponent is more difficult to defeat.
Finally, familiarize yourself with Pokémon type strengths and weaknesses heres the official Niantic type chart. Youll want to know which of your Pokémons moves will be strong against your opponents Pokémon, and which of your Pokémon might be weak to your competitors moves. You will have the chance to change your Pokémon if you have another in your party that would be better, but beware that you will then be briefly timed out from changing out your Pokémon again.
Moving Up Rank And Rating In The Pokmon Go Battle League
Speaking of Rank and Rating, the way that you increase your Rank and Rating is by completing Battles and winning Battles. The following requirements must be met to increase your Rank:

Another round of the Pokemon Go Great League is upon us and is set to test trainers with some of the most interesting Pokemon and restrictions in the entire Pokemon Go PVP league.
The Great League allows only Pokemon that have 1500 CP or less, which automatically limits which mon trainers can use in battle. This restriction also allows for varying team compositions and allows for certain Pokemon that otherwise wouldnt compete against some of the more powerful mon to shine.
This round of the Great League in Pokemon Go begins Monday, October 11-25. Pokemon Gos Great League : Xl Pokemon
Now that you know which Pokemon you should be keeping an eye out for, youre all set! But you might be wondering: What does the X next to some of their names mean? So, let us explain what XL Candy is.
WHAT ARE XL CANDY?
XL Candy is an in-game resource that allows you to level up your Pokemon. Unlike regular Candy, this item can boost your Pokemon past the level cap. Usually, you would only be able to train your Pokemon to Level 40. However, with XL Candy, you can boost them all the way to 50.
WHERE TO GET XL CANDY?
There are a couple of ways you can farm XL Candy. These are the following:
- Catching Pokemon
- Sending Pokemon to Professor Willow
- Trading with Pokemon Go Friends
- Taking a walk with a Buddy Pokemon
You can also take 100 regular Candies and convert them to a single XL Candy. However, wed caution players against this as its a waste of resources. This is especially the case if you have plenty of other Pokemon under Level 40 who could benefit from the regular Candy.
TIP! If conversion isnt the best option, whats the best way to farm XL Candy? Answer: catch Pokemon. For each successful catch, you get a chance of getting one, two, or three XL Candies. So, get out of that chair and start hunting!

The Great League returns to the Go Battle League on Monday, January 10, 2022, at 1pm PST and runs until Monday, January 24, 2022, at 1pm PST. It will be joined by the new Sinnoh Cup.

Jellicent Has A Weird Typing For Excellent Counter Strategies
Jellicent is a Ghost and Water-type Pokemon. At Level 50, its Max CP is 2,644, its Attack is 159, its Defense is 178, and its Stamina is 255. Its best Quick moves are Hex and Bubble while its best Charge moves are Bubble Beam , Ice Beam , and Shadow Ball .
One of Jellicent’s biggest strengths is how well it can counter all of the other Water staples in the meta including the constantly present Azumarill. While it has a bit of a weird typing, it does boast resistances to eight other Pokemon types as well. Combined with its high Stamina, this can make Jellicent a solid wall that is hard to get past.
Galarian Stunfisk Has A Fantastic Typing
Galarian Stunfisk is a Ground and Steel-type Pokemon. At Level 50, its Max CP clocks in at 2,445, its Attack at 144, Defense at 171, and Stamina at 240. Its best Quick move is Mud Shot , and its best Charge are Rock Slide and Earthquake .

Galarian Stunfisk succeeds in the Great League because it tanks well and has awesome typing. Although it is weak to Water-type moves, Galarian Stunfisk is immune to both Poison and Electric-type attacks and resists Grass-type and Steel-type as well. Given how common many of these types are in Great League, Stunfisk can often hold its own.

Registeel: This legendary isnt going to be as common as some others, but if youve got one its going to make a great addition to Altaria. Choose Lock On and Flash Cannon.
Deoxys : Another rare one: if you dont have this one yet, you likely wont get it any time soon. If you have it, however, its an excellent, well-rounded contender that can stymie a lot of teams. Get Counter and Psycho Boost.
Venosaur: Starters are great options, because theyre common enough and weve had lots of opportunity to get and evolve them. Getting a Venosaur under 1,500 can actually be tricky, but its the best grass-type if you can swing it. Go with Vine Whip or Frenzy Plant if youve got it, and then Solar Beam, Sludge Bomb or both if youve got the candy.
Alternative: go with Ivysaur instead. Still strong, more manageable.
Azumarill: Youre vulnerable to grass-types, but this is one of the better Water-type offerings in the mix. Its tanky and versatile, with the ability to counter Altaria, albeit with a charged attack. Youll want Bubble and Play Rough/Ice Beam.
Skarmory: A good grass counter and a fairly common little thing, even if its weird looking. Go with Air Slash and Sky Attack.
Bastiodon: Bastiodon has caused me a lot of trouble here in the early days, mostly because of how it shreds my Altaria. But this thing can take pain while dishing it out, with stone-type moves to mess up flying-types. Watch out for fighting and ground-type counters.
