How To Win A Raid Battle
Winning a raid battle is not as easy as your average gym match. Boss Pokemon are seriously powerful, with a difficulty ranging from level 1 to level 5. The higher the level, the higher the CP. Fortunately, youre not alone. Anyone who has a Raid Pass can join the battle, with up to 20 players in a a group. Combat is like any gym battle: attacks are the same, you can heal your Pokemon, or even flee and rejoin the battle as long as the raid isnt over.
How To Evolve Eevee Into Sylveon In Pokemon Go
Pokemon Go currently has Pokemon from several generations… and the most recent Eevee Evolution added to the game is Sylveon, a Pokemon added in generation 6. In the main Pokemon games, Sylveon evolves based off your Affection and Friendship stats, which maps to the Pokemon Buddy Feature that Pokemon Go has.
First of all, the nickname trick continues to work with Sylveon. To get it first, take an Eevee and rename it to Kira – then evolve it. The first time you do this, you’ll get a Sylveon. After this, however, you’ll have to evolve into Sylveon in the traditional way, as this is a one-time trick per eeveelution.
For further chances to evolve Eevee to Sylveon, you’ll need to get 70 Buddy Hearts with an Eevee – which puts your relationship with that Pokemon at the ‘Great Buddy’ level. After this, you simply need to evolve that Eevee with 25 Eevee candy, and you’ll get the fairy-type Sylveon in return.
All of these work with the Flower Crown Eevee or Shiny Eevee – so you can use these tricks to get yourself a Shiny Sylveon or a Flower Crown Sylveon.

How To Evolve Eevee Into Leafeon And Glaceon
Grass-type Leafeon and Ice-type Glaceon are the latest Eeveelutions to be added to Pokémon Go and unlike Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon there is a secondary way of securing their forms.
In order to evolve Eevee into Leafeon and Glaceon youll have to get specific items: either the Glacial Lure Module for Glaceon or the Mossy Lure Module for Leafeon, both of which can be purchased in the in-game shop for 200 coins each.
Once you have the correct Lure Module, simply apply it to a PokéStop. While youre still close to that PokéStop and the Lure is active, evolve your Eevee using the usual 25 candies and you should get the form youre looking for. If everything is working properly, the evolution button should show the outline of the Eevee evolution you’re going to get before you press it, rather than the usual question mark.

How To Get Leafeon And Glaceon In Pokemon Go
Leafeon and Glaceon are obtained using two in-game items. Evolving your Eevee at a Pokestop that has the Mossy Lure applied to it will give trainers a Leafeon. Evolving at a PokeStop where theres a Glacial Lure will give trainers access to Glaceon. These items can be purchased from the in-game store for 200 coins each, and they work like normal lures, except they attract Pokemon of specific types.
Which Is The Best Eeveelution Eeevee Evolutions Ranked
If you’ve got your hands on only one or two Eevee, you’re thus faced with a difficult choice: which of the five Eevee Evolution forms you can currently get is the best one to have? Several of the Eevee Evolutions rank decently in our list of the Best Pokemon for battles in Pokemon Go – in Attack Espeon is ranked 13th and Flareon 18th, while in Defense Umbreon clocks in at 16th. Vapoeron ranks a respectable 10th in HP and Stamina, too – but those are just basic stats. What about beyond that?
Pokemon Types are of course absolutely vital in Pokemon Go, and an important thing to consider is how each Eevee Evolution ranks when compared to other Pokemon of its type – and also how easy they are to obtain compared to their powerful peers. Let’s take a look at that:
The story behind Pokemon Go’s Eevee Evolution names
If you’re wondering where the above names come from, they’re actually a deep-cut nod to fans of the Pokemon anime – a nice little easter egg for players who have been particularly dedicated in their following of the series.
Rainer, Sparky, Pyro, Sakura and Tamao are actually the names of the ‘Eevee brothers’ that appear in the Pokemon anime. The first three Eevee evolutions and their owners – all siblings – show up in episode 40 of the show, meeting Ash and Pikachu. Each brother has a unique Eevee of his own, and it’s after the brothers that the Eevee take their names.

Evolve That Eevee Rename It
If you remember the original Pokemon cartoon, you may recall the three Eevee Brothers, who each owned one of Eevee’s evolutions: a Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon. If you nickname your Eevee one of the brothers’ punny names, then it will evolve into your desired evolution! Want a Flareon? Then name it Pyro. Want a Jolteon? Name it Sparky! Jonesing for a Vaporeon? Then call it Rainer. This may not work all the time, however it’s an almost-guaranteed way to evolve one of your Eevees, but this weird method may not work 100 percent of the time.
What’s In A Nickname Change It
Changing your nickname is easy-peasy. Just tap the Pokeball on the main screen at the bottom > Settings > tap Change Nickname. You’ll get a warning that you can only change your nickname once, so choose wisely, and make it count! And make sure it’s at least PG-rated because other Trainers are going to see it.

How To Evolve Eevee
Most of Eevees evolutions require an evolution stone, which is one of the easiest methods for getting the upgraded creature you want. Stones can be found here. Keep in mind that if you get a free Eevee early on in the game because you have a save file for Pokémon: Lets Go, Eevee, you cant evolve it.
Below are the Eevee that evolve with stones:
- Flareon: Fire Stone
- Leafeon: Leaf Stone
- Vaporeon: Water Stone
Eevees three other evolutions require you to raise your friendship to at least level three and then, based on a second condition listed below, they will change once you level them up next:
- Sylveon: Must know a fairy-type move
- Espeon: Must not know a fairy-type move and level it up during the day
- Umbreon: Must not know a fairy-type move and level it up during the night
But Wait What The Heck Is A Lucky Egg
It’s an egg that’s lucky! Really, it’s filled with happiness and most importantly, grants you double the amount of experience points you can gain for 30 minutes at a time. You can only buy these in the Shop, with Coins. If you’ve got a couple Pokemon you’re almost ready to evolve, save up those candies until you’ve got a Lucky Egg, then evolve them all one after another while the Lucky Egg’s dank XP aura is in the air to double down on that extra CP and XP.

How To Evolve Using Nicknames To Guarantee Your Choice Of Eevee Evolution
If you evolve an Eevee ‘raw’ by spending 25 candy, it’ll just evolve into one of the different available evolutions at random. However, you can actually force a specific evolution by renaming your Eevee of choice to a special nickname – and the whole thing began as an easter egg nod to a classic set of Eevee evolutions found in the Pokemon anime TV show.
So, basically, all you have to do is rename your Eevee to a specific name and then evolve it the regular way by spending 25 candy. Here are the names and the Eevee Evolutions:
An important note about this little cheat: it only works once per Eevee Evolution. Once you’ve renamed one Eevee as Tamao to get Umbreon, for instance, you’ll only be able to get another Umbreon through ‘natural’ means – with that exact method depending on the eeveelution in question. This is why you should check your CP values and IV values before evolving an Eevee – make sure it’s a good one, as you only get one shot.

NA: This Normal-type Pokémon is as adaptable to evolution as they come, with eight evolutions discovered thus far. If you pair that potential with its adorable features, it’s no wonder Eevee is so popular! In Smash Bros., Eevee will attack a nearby opponent with Take Down. Sadly, this attack isn’t incredibly powerful.
PAL: This adorable Normal-type Pokémon’s ability to evolve in so many different ways makes it a popular choice with trainers. When brought out in battle, Eevee uses Take Down on the first opponent it sees, but…it’s not very effective. Never mind. Eevee may not be the toughest Pokémon, but it’ll always be one of the cutest.
Trade Lots Of Pokemon To Get Lucky Ones
From now on, when you trade Pokemon, there’s a chance for them to become Lucky. That means they require less Stardust to power up than regular Pokemon. This makes them easier to train up to become powerful. Every trade won’t result in a lucky Pokemon, but there’s always a chance to get one, so there’s no better time than now to add a friend and try your luck.

Leaf Fire Thunder Ice And Water Stones
Fortunately, these stones are much easier to come by. In order to get a Leaf, Fire, Thunder, Ice, or Water Stone simply go to the giant department store in Celadon City. It’s the giant 2-door, 5 story building on the west side of town close to route 16. Take the elevator to the 4th floor “Wiseman Gifts”. Talk to the clerk on the right side and you can buy any of the stones for 5,000 Pokédollars.
Of course, you can find various stones scattered around the game. However, at 5,000 each, the price is cheap enough not to worry about it. It’s likely the better choice to just go buy the stones rather than hunt them down.

Pokmon Go Eeveelutions: How To Evolve Eevee Into Evolutions Slyveon Leafeon Glaceon Umbreon Espeon Vaporeon Flareon And Jolteon With These Eevee Names
Here’s how Eevee evolutions work. If you choose to evolve Eevee without any meddling – by feeding it 25 Eevee candy – then it’ll turn to Vaporeon, Jolteon or Flareon at random.
However, players have discovered a trick that allows you to target any of Sylveon, Leafeon, Glaceon, Espeon, Umbreon, Flareon, Jolteon or Vaporeon by using one of the following Eevee names:
- Rename Eevee as Kira to evolve into fairy-type Sylveon
- Rename Eevee as Linnea to evolve into leaf-type Leafeon
- Rename Eevee as Rea to evolve into ice-type Glaceon
- Rename Eevee as Sakura to evolve into psychic-type Espeon
- Rename Eevee as Tamao to evolve into dark-type Umbreon
- Rename Eevee as Rainer to evolve into water-type Vaporeon
- Rename Eevee as Sparky to evolve into lightning-type Jolteon
- Rename Eevee as Pyro to evolve into fire-type Flareon
Important note – the trick only works once per evolution type, so make sure you choose Eevees with the best CP values before you evolve them into the type you want.
Thank you to redwineandbeer from reddit for confirming the nickname for Sylveon.
That said, for select Eevee evolutions, its possible to get the specific types you want through a second method…
More Berries Than Ever
We explained in our primer that razz berries are items you can feed a Pokemon to slow it down before you capture it. Updates have introduced multiple types of berries that each have different effects.Nanab Berries: Use these berries to slow down a wild Pokemon’s movements. Strategic use of these can be key to capturing a particularly elusive ‘Mon.Pinap Berries: These double the amount of Candy you get as a reward if your next attempt to capture a Pokemon succeeds. It’s a bit of a risk though, because if you fail to capture your next target the berry goes to waste.Razz Berries: Mechanics haven’t changed here. Razz Berries can still be fed to a wild Pokemon to make it easier to catch.Golden Razz Berries: Like their less shiny cousins, the Golden Razz Berries have the same function of making it easy to capture wild Pokemon, but are much more powerful. You can use berries in tandem with a stronger Pokeball to catch particularly feisty or extremely rare Pokemon that cross your path. However, don’t use multiple berries at a time since their effects don’t stack. One of the aspiring trainers right here in the PCMag Labs caught themselves a Dragonair doing just that. Feed the Pokemon a razz berry, take out a Great Ball, give it some good arc on your throw, and catching just got a whole lot easier.
