Error Or Misprinted Charizard Cards

1999 Pokemon Base Set 1st Edition Shadowless Holo Charizard #4 PSA 10 GEM MINT

Ive seen many Error Pokemon cards through my years of collecting and I guarantee that Charizard cards have the least amount of errors on them.

Why? Because the combination of high demand for Charizard and the fact many collectors love errors makes these incredibly hard to find when they do come around.

Whether the card is off-center or its entirely an error with a missing print or upside down back, the card will bring a nice premium. If you think you have a misprinted card, check out this extensive guide we wrote all about error Pokemon cards.

Charizard error cards are rare, and they are usually minor. Error cards will typically be worth 2 to 3 times over their typical value depending on if you find the right buyer.

Is It Worth It To Grade Pokemon Cards

Does it still make sense to have your cards graded if your only plan is to enjoy them yourself? Yes, as a matter of fact, it does. While the monetary value of graded cards is always attractive and makes for great news, the truth is there are many reasons to get your cards graded that have nothing to do with value.

Ex Dragon Frontiers Holographic

The introduction, or rather reveal, of shiny versions of Pokemon, provided an additional level of Pokemon hunting. Fans were now looking to obtain the alternate color versions of their favorite creatures. To no one’s surprise, Charizard ended up having one of the coolest shiny forms as it went from orange to black .

The 2006 card from the EX Dragon Frontiers set featured a holographic shiny Charizard. It sold for an astonishing $9,000, which isn’t surprising considering the card was PSA 10 graded and featured a black Charizard.

Shining Charizard 1st Edition

Earlier, we discussed the introduction of shiny Pokemon and how it simply made Charizard cooler. In the 2002 NEO Destiny 1st edition set, there was a card titled Shining Charizard that captured the black-scaled iconic Pokemon in all of its elegance and stoicism.

A PSA 10 graded version of the card has sold at its highest for around $22,000. The NEO Destiny set was the last one that the card manufacturer, Wizards of the Coast, used the 1st edition logo for on any of their Pokemon products â an interesting legacy for an equally interesting trading card.

Wrapping Up Where Do We Go From Here

So there you have it!

The rarest, most expensive Charizard card purchases from this past year.

As market prices begin to correct themselves, weve seen concerning drops in some of the cards above.

Ill be the first to admit I probably overpaid for a few cards in 2020!

But if you take a long-term view on Pokemon cards like I do, its not the end of the world.

Am I confident prices will one day reach these heights again? Sure am!

If your strategy was a quick pick-and-flip, then it probably needs a rethink.

Ultimately though, theres nothing wrong with picking up the cards you love, and growing your collection.

Here are some cool Charizard additions to my collection in 2020 .

Reverse Holographic Legendary Collection

When reverse holographics first entered the Pokemon scene, kids couldn’t handle how amazing the alternate design was. The reverse holographic version of Charizard from the 2002 Legendary Collection set added a whole new layer of cool to the already popular Base Set design of the beloved Fire-type starter from the Kanto region.

Its highest selling price for a PSA 10 graded version of the card went for a solid $6,500, which may sound like a lot of money but doesn’t come close to everything else ahead of it on this list. That may seem like a lot of money, but in terms of Charizard card value, it’s on the middle-to-low end.

Venusaur also serves as the mascot of the Pokémon Green video game making it one of the most recognizable of first edition Pokémon:

Weve looked at a mix of options, from the best of the best to more affordable copies that still have good potential for profit in the future.

Wed stick to graded cards when possible, especially considering the number of fakes on the market.

Well start off with one of the most famous Pokemon cards ever, from the original 1999 set.

The big one, this was by far the most popular card of the original 151. Charizard was a major part of the anime and had one of the strongest attack ratings at 100. The orange card has a small image of Charizard at the top, with the Pokemon surrounded by chrome flames which give it an iconic look.

Itll have a small label on the left-hand side, noting it as a Base 1st Edition copy. Many have been lost or destroyed over the past two decades, so gem mint versions are worth a significant amount, especially compared to later editions.

What About Your Cards

“The regular Charizard card might be worth around £300,” Dan, from trading cards and collectibles shop Game HQ, tells Newsbeat.

“Most cards that people have will be the mass-produced ones so they wont be worth as much, but they can still be worth a lot of money as long as the cards are in good condition.

It might be time to ask your mum to dig out your old stuff, but if you do, which ones should you look out for?

What Makes The Legendary Collection Reverse Holo Charizard So Valuable

Next up we have a card that divides options the reverse holographic Charizard from 2002s Legendary Collection. Some people love the fireworks holo background, others think its all too in-your-face. Personally, I love it. Its one of my favourite cards!

Interestingly though, what makes it so valuable, aside from the iconic Charizard artwork, is how difficult it is to grade in a PSA 10. As you can see below, only 75 exist. This is because theres an extra level of complexity when grading this card, as the large holographic area was often susceptible to print lines. Combine that with possible edgewear, corner nicks and scratches, its no surprise theres some a low population of PSA 10s.

Pokmon Game #14 Raichu Holo

Average Value in PSA 10: $2,296

Players of the Yellow version of the original video game were introduced to the world of Pokémon with the reliable companion of Ash Ketchum, Pikachu. After a steady diet of hard-fought battles, a well-timed Thunder Stone and ketchup if you watched the anime Pikachu evolves into the more powerful but equally reliable Raichu. Lots of face time for Pikachu throughout the franchise has likely contributed to the popularity of related cards, including this 1st Edition Holo Raichu. Prices over $2k for cards in PSA 10 condition arent shocking.

How To Know If Your Charizard Pokmon Card Is Rare And Valuable Or Not

Charizard

Paul Tassi

Time is a flat circle, and it seems like just yesterday I was spending my allowance every week on Pokémon cards in junior high. Well, now Pokémon cards, and opening them on Twitch streams and in YouTube videos, are all the rage again, and it turns out some of those cards you got as a kid may be valuable today, if you kept themand kept them in good shape.

Wading into the exact valuation of all Pokémon cards is a swamp that its hard to emerge from, so I thought Id focus on one particular type of card which was coveted when I was a kid. I saved it because I thought it might be worth something someday, and it turns out I was right. Well, depending on which version you have.

Here is a gradient scale on which of the old school Charizard cards are the most and least valuable. Exact figures for selling prices are hard to pin down. The low end might be a few hundred, the higher end for the rarest Charizard editions can be tens of thousands, if not over $100K for true perfection. The prices below are estimates and again, its a wide range. If yours isnt here at all, it may be too common to be worth all that much. These cards are also usually PSA 9-10 graded meaning they have to be in stellar condition, not just sitting in a shoebox somewhere, in order to see these ranges of prices.

What Makes The Pocket Monsters Carddass Prism Charizard So Valuable

OMG! FULL POKEMON 1ST EDITION PSA 10 HOLO BASE SET 1-16 with CHARIZARD

Propping up our list is a very interesting Charizard card.

Produced by Bandai in 96 and 97, these Pocket Monster cards were distributed through vending machines in Japan. Costing 100 Yen for 5 cards, or 20 for individual cards, we get a fascinating insight into what life might have been like for Japanese kids during Pokemons early years.

Slightly similar to the Topsun card above, the rarest cards had a prism holofoil background. However, as we can see, the design is much more symmetrical.

With only 58 PSA 10s in existence, the value of the Carddass Prism Charizard isnt driven so much by nostalgia, instead its more about owning a piece of Pokemon history from the place it all began.
