Nessa’s Drednaws can actually Gigantamax! It’s cool that she has another form for her awesome Pokémon and it is one of the strongest creatures on her entire team for this reason. It’s also neat that Nessa has two Gignatamax Drewdnaws of different genders, how awesome!

Fans that never managed to defeat her within the games may not know this and it is quite easy to forget for seasoned players because she is an early gym leader in the game and as previously mentioned its easy to miss the gender differences in her two Drednaws. Every challenger within the Pokémon world in generation 8 has a certain number and Nessa’s happens to be 049. Fans can learn this by looking at the back of her clothing and it is an interesting tidbit that is not well known throughout the community.

Her character design is fire, or uh, I mean, water. She rocks perfectly applied eyeliner and purple eye shadow. Im obsessed with her hoop earrings and she dons a Poké-inspired swimsuit fit for an athlete. Also, she has floaties on her sandals? OK. Nessa also has fans excited because she is also among a growing list of Pokémon Sword and Shield character cast that are dark-skinned . This is important given that many Pokémon characters are often white.

And Im not the only one getting excited at her announcement. The internet is freaking out about her as well.

Anime and video games coming from the country have increasingly presented racially diverse casts . Consider the recent anime Carole and Tuesday, which features prominent racial diversity and was created by one of the most beloved anime directors of all time, Shinichiro Watanabe .

When people say “Japan doesn’t care about racial diversity,” they are making an incredibly reductive statement that ignores the reality of the situation. Statements like these — and mods like this — stand in direct opposition of progress. Like Nessa’s Water Gym back in Tuffield, Melody’s Ice Gym is a slightly more traditional Pokemon Gym. You’ll need to work your way through an area where the floor will collapse beneath your feet with any false steps, using a detector that’ll tell you when you’re close to a big ol’ hole. There are Gym Trainers en route, all armed with Ice Type Pokemon, so make sure you’ve got some Fighting, Steel, Rock or Fire Type Pokemon with you.

Gym Mission: As we mentioned before, the Ice Gym Mission is all about navigating a trecherous floor. You’ve got a handy detector with you, but here’s a little walkthrough for you, talking as if the playing field is on a grid.

Area 1: Go forward two – right three until you hit the rock – up three – left three – up three into the platform – fight the Gym Trainer – exit left off the platform – go left three – up three or until you’re one line from the top – go right until you hit the rock – exit the area

Area 3: Enter the area in the left lane – go up three – left two – up one – left one – up until you hit the rock – right one – move up onto the platform – go all the way up the platform – battle the trainer at the top – exit the platform on the right below the trainer – go right until you hit the wall – go up three – left two – up one – left one – up two – left one – up two – right one – up until you reach the platform – exit either left or right – go up and around the blocks until you get to the platform.
