In the core games, Umbreon served as an incredible tank with its high defense and special defense stats. One can easily get an Umbreon by evolving their Eevee at night in them.
However, the method to evolve Eevee into Umbreon in Pokemon Go is a bit different. There are two primary ways through which you can get an Umbreon in Pokemon Go. Both of them involve evolving your Eevee into an Umbreon. There isnt a way to catch a Wild Umbreon yet. You must find an Eevee and evolve it using special measures.
Im sharing both methods below. If you dont have an Umbreon yet, and it is your first time, then the first method will be the simplest and the best for you. But, if you already have an Umbreon in your party and want more, then youll have to use the second method.

How To Evolve Eevee Using Nicknames
A neat trick allows you to force a specific evolution when using the candy evolution method, and all you need to do is rename your Eevee to a particular nickname.
Simply rename your Eevee with the nickname below that corresponds with your desired evolution and voila, youll have your eeveelution of choice once you feed it 25 candy:

How To Get Umbreon
Umbreon is normally obtained via evolving Eevee. If players don’t have an Umbreon yet, they can make use of the nickname trick to guarantee Eevee into evolving into Umbreon normally. In order to do this, players must nickname their Eevee of choice “Tamao”. Players will then need to evolve their Eevee as normal with 25 Eevee candies.
If players already used this trick, they must use the normal evolution method. This requires players to select the Eevee of choice as their buddy Pokemon. Players must then walk at least 10 kilometers alongside their Eevee. This does not need to be done all at once and can be done over time.
After walking enough kilometers, players will see a Pokemon’s sillhouette by the evolve button on the chosen Eevee’s menu. In order to make the Eevee evolve into Umbreon, the Eevee must be evolved at night. If evolved during the day, the Eevee will evolve into Espeon instead. This still costs 25 Eevee candies.

Pokemon Go Eeveelution Names Trick
Using the nickname trick in is simple, but you can only do it once per Eeveelution, meaning every following evolution will require a slightly different approach.
To rename your Eevee, simply tap the pencil icon next to its name while in the Pokemon menu. You need to call it something specific to get the evolution you want, so make sure you input it right before you click Evolve.

Umbreon is a Dark-type Pokemon, and therefore very helpful against powerful Psychic-type Pokemon like Mewtwo and Deoxys. Both of which feature in the Ultra Bonus event. Even so, Umbreon is far more bulk than brawn. Its a great gym defender or Great League brick, but Pokemon like Sharpedo, Tyranitar, Houndoom, and Honchcrow are better Dark-type attacker options to strive for.
Umbreon Counters:
If youre looking to chip in with Psychic-type raids like Mewtwo, Deoxys, or the Emotion trio, Umbreon can at least prolong your teams survival. It could even become an asset against Alolan Raichu. Just dont expect it to melt away HP in the same way Tyranitar or Gyarados do in similar situations!

Best Moveset For Vaporeon Pokemon Go
- Water Gun + Aqua Tail / Hydro Pump
You dont want to waste stardust teaching Vaporeon a second charge move. That said, Aqua Tail or Hydro Pump will do the job. If you do a lot of dodging, Aqua Tail is probably the way to go. The recommended moveset remains the same in PVP. Though you may want to look at a few other Water-type additions to your team in place of Vaporeon!

- Confusion + Future Sight
Thats it. Confusion and Future Sight are all Espeon needs to shine. Confusion has a lengthier animation than Psycho Cut found on other alternatives, so be careful if you need to dodge. Combined with Future Sight, however, theres a lot of damage potential here. Sadly Espeon isnt worth considering in any PVP league.

Pokemon Go: Methods To Obtain Umbreon
Pokemon GO trainers seeking an Umbreon won’t find it in the wild yet. At the same time, it is currently not listed as a raid boss or a research reward. That leaves players with one real option in the summer of 2021: evolving an Eevee that they have already caught.
Fortunately, Eevee is a much easier find in both the wild and in research rewards. As another prerequisite, players will need 25 Eevee candies in order to initiate the evolution.
Typically, evolving an Eevee will cause it to become a Flareon, Vaporeon, or Jolteon randomly. In order to acquire an Umbreon, trainers will need to do one of two things:
- Players who have not used the nickname trick to acquire an Umbreon can nickname their Eevee “Tamao” before evolution. This will guarantee that an Eevee becomes an Umbreon upon evolving, but it can only be used once. Before using this trick, players should be certain that the Eevee is worth evolving into Umbreon.
- Pokemon GO trainers that can’t use the nickname trick will have to do some traveling. They will need to set their Eevee as their Buddy Pokemon and walk 10km with them. The trainer will then need to evolve their Eevee at night. This hearkens back to the mainline Pokemon series, where getting an Umbreon required an Eevee to level up with a certain happiness level at night.

Sylveon is the newest evolutionary form of Eevee introduced in the Kalos region . It is a Fairy-type Pokemon having excellent stats. In May 2021, Niantic made Sylveon available in Pokemon Go. You can now evolve your Eevee into a Sylveon using the Name trick like the other evolutionary forms of Eevee.

Buddy Method For Espeon And Umbreon
This method is only used for getting the Generation 2 Pokémon:Espeon and Umbreon.
- You must have walked at least 10km with the Pokémon as your buddy, and have collected at least 2 candy.
- The Pokémon must be your buddy when you evolve it.
You can then choose between Espeon and Umbreon depending on whether you evolve your Eeveeduring the day or at night.
Can Flower Crown Eevee Evolve Pokemon Go Guide
Of course it can! Evolving Flower Crown Eevee will result in an Eeveelution with the Flower Crown, making Pokemon GO Flower Crown Eevee evolutions a very real possibility.
Standard evolution rules apply here just like any other Eevee. The one exception is that any Eeveelution coming from a Flower Crown Eevee will keep those adorable flowers on their head. Once again: big fans over here.
