What Is Pikachu Based On

Pikachus Early Game Abilities

Pikachu Design Was Based On A Squirrel Not A Mouse

Pikachu has very strong stun potential between levels one to three. You get to pick both of the moves below eventually, but you have to decide which one you want first. Thunder shock is great when youre going on the offensive, as it deals damage as well as stunning enemies. Use it when your opponents are grouped up together to unleash its real potential.

Electroweb is a good defensive move that you can use to halt enemies while you make your escape. Or, if youre going in for the attack, you can use it to stun an enemy and go in for a killing blow.

We recommend you pick thunder shock first, then electroweb.

Hindrance Nine seconds Attack and capture the opposing Pokémon in an electric net, leaving them unable to move .

Female Pikachu Have A Notch In Their Tails

The one thing that many beginner Pokémon fans dont understand right away is that Pikachu isnt just the name of one singular Pikachu, its also the plural for an entire Pokémon species. And within that species are of course female and male Pikachu, each roaming around with their own distinctive personality. So how do we differentiate the two genders? Well, its relatively simple; at least in some cases.

Although Pikachu never had an established gender difference at the onset of the franchise, in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl gender differences were introduced to the Pokémon universe, thus making identification easier; should that be of concern to anyone for whatever reason. Since then, female Pikachu were seen with notches or indents at the end of their tails, and males werent. But dont worry, this isnt some type of Avatar-esque sex adventure whereby Pikachus everywhere are fitting their tails together. At least, we dont think it is.

Ashs Pikachu Was Named Jean

Pokemon is a worldwide phenomenon that originated in Japan, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its Western influences. Just the idea of a small yellow rat that can store and dispense lightning is a crazy one, and its something that somehow caught on and made us all feel more cultured for understanding. When making the jump from Japan to everywhere else, Pikachus name wasnt changed to Greg the Rat or anything ridiculous like that, it was just left the way it was and we all understood it; Pikachu was Pikachu. But was he really?

As it turns out, when Pikachu was first introduced his name was actually Jean Luc Pikachu. First mentioned by Ash but then quickly abandoned in any other iteration of the Pokémon franchise, Jean Luc Pikachu appeases fans that thought the ultra-Japanese Pokémon needed to be more French, or perhaps they’re setting up a Star Trek, but it really appeases no one else. Its a confusing bit of Pokémon trivia that is never given much thought, but its one that we should all bring up on occasion just to keep things interesting.

You can also choose one battle item per match. For Pikachu, we recommend one of the following.

Pikachu Actually Translates Into English

Pika Pika, PIKACHUUUUUUUUUUUU

For those of you that think Pikachu is just a cool name for a brightly colored electricity rodent, think again. Pika is a Japanese word for electricity crackling, and chu is how the Japanese describe the sound of mice. Put the two together and you have a name that spread across a generation and actually ended up inspiring some parents to name their children Pikachu; or more accurately, Electricity-Crackling-Mice.

According to Pokémon developer Junichi Masuda, Pikachu wasnt an easy name to come up with, and creators wanted to develop something that would be a hit to both Japanese and American audiences. Eventually, after much back and forth, Pikachu was chosen, and it eventually led into the sounds that the Pokémon is famous for making. Pika, pika chu became a catch phrase for Pikachu and the characters name quickly spread around the world as something that fit perfectly; despite many not knowing that it actually had a meaning behind it aside from simply sounding cool.

Pikachu Inspired By A Squirrel Not A Mouse

TOKYO – The design for Pikachu, one of the main characters in the popular game Pokemon, was based on a squirrel, developers of the game at the time of its 1996 debut have told The Yomiuri Shimbun.

This is the first time the designers have revealed the story behind Pikachu’s origin. The Pokemon Co, the Tokyo-based brand management company for Pokemon, will add the information to its website this month.

Pikachu has been a fixture of the franchise since the first Pokemon game debuted in February 1996 for Nintendo Co’s Game Boy handheld game console.

According to the developers, including Ken Sugimori, 52, an executive at game developer Game Freak Inc, and illustrator Atsuko Nishida, who was working at the company when Pokemon was released, Nishida was tasked with designing a “cute monster” character that met two specific conditions: It must be an “electric type” that used electric attacks and must have two stages of evolution.

Nishida said she initially created a character that resembled a “vertically long daifuku rice confection with ears”.

After being told it needed to be cuter, she created a new design based on a squirrel, an animal she wanted to own as a pet at the time.

Nishida eventually created the prototype design for what would become Pikachu using large pixels on a computer screen, while Sugimori drew the illustrated version. The initial daifuku-like character, which Nishida also drew using large pixels, was erased and no longer exists.

What Animal Is Pikachu In The Anime

As we all know, the world of Pokémon is inhabited by creatures called Pokémon. Pokémon are very similar to animals, although they do come in various shapes and sizes. This is why there is no exact answer to the question of this section, as an answer would imply that there are regular animals in the world of Pokémon alongside Pokémon. Okay, okay, we dont want to be too harsh actual animals do exist in the world of Pokémon, but they are very, very rare. Now that weve gotten this out of the way, we can actually describe Pikachu.

Pikachu is a small, rodent-like Pokémon that appears in yellow, black, brown, and red. Most of its body is colored yellow. The tips of the ears, however, are black. There are also two broad, rounded stripes of brown color on its back. The same goes for the beginning of the tail.

This originally slightly thicker Electric Pokémon has become significantly slimmer over time. Two pointed, long ears grow on the head. The face consists of two black-and-white, round eyes, a very small nose, two red cheeks filled with electricity, and a small mouth.

Pikachu has five short fingers on his front feet. It has wide thighs that merge directly into the narrow, long feet. There are three toes on each of them. A striking feature is its tail, which is shaped like a lightning bolt.

In its Shiny Form, it is colored in a strong dark yellow, almost orange tone.

Is Pikachu A Squirrel

Pikachu has a long tail, it can climb and jump trees, and it does resemble a squirrel in several ways. Still, as much as there are similarities, there are also differences which constitute the fact that Pikachu is not, in fact, a squirrel, although this animal is the closest to the Pokémons actual looks after the mouse and the rat.

Top 10 Pokemon Based on Real Mythological Creatures

Although in the original Pokémon games only Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle could be used as starters, in the new smash hit Pokémon Go there is a way to beat the system and get Pikachu from the get go. Pokmon Creators Have Finally Revealed What The Hell Pikachu Was Supposed To Be Based On

He wasn’t a mouse for a start

Anyone familiar with Pokémon will know most, if not all of the creatures in the franchise are broadly based on real animals or things.

Youve got Mareep, which is some kind of electric sheep

Theres Arcanine, clearly a dog-based Pokémon.

And then youve got this tree with a face, presumably because the creators wanted to see how far they could go with this.

However, the most famous of them all, Pikachu, has long remained a mystery.

Even if weve never played Pokémon, either on Gameboy or the more recent Pokémon Go mobile game, we know what Pikachu looks like.

Hes a yellow fella with pointy ears, and theres some weird electricity thing going on somewhere. Honestly, weve never given it a ton of thought.

If we were to ask you what animal you thought this guy looked like, youd probably just say a Pikachu hes transcended the animal kingdom but now we finally know what he was meant to be based on.

Citing an interview with Japanese publication Yomiuri, Altpress has the answer to the question which has been on all of your lips since I mentioned it a paragraph or two ago.

Atsuko Nishida, who designed the character for Pokémon Red, based it not on a mouse, as many had assumed, but on a squirrel.

At that time, I was really into squirrels, so I wanted the character to have puffy cheeks, Nishida said.

That said, after Pikachu was named, the design gradually became more mouse-like until it became the version we recognise today.

What a journey.

Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time

It is criminal how underrated this movie is. Unfortunately for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the Marvel Cinematic Universe formula hadnt exploded into popularity when it was released, as the film wouldve been an instant hit today.

The pacing of the film combined what wed seen in quality period action-adventure movies like Indiana Jones and The Mummy, and Prince of Persia basically has it all. Youve got comedy, incredible stunts, fantasy sequences, the story sticking close to the video game, and the entire feel of its setting; theres not much more you can ask for. Re-watching Prince of Persia reminds us that its a lot more fun that it is given credit for.

Pikachus Late Game Abilities

At this point in the match, you must choose between thunderbolt and volt tackle, these moves both upgrade Pikachus disabling capabilities. Thunderbolt is an AoE stun that can be useful against large groups. You can also use it in conjunction with thunder in order to damage them further, or electro ball to stun lock your enemies.

Volt tackle is an instant, single-target stun which knocks the enemy airborne. Its very handy when tackling high-damage opponents, while protecting yourself and your team.

These are entirely situation-based, and its best to look at the match and your playstyle to see which one is the best for you.

Pikachu engulfs itself with electricity, leaping forward and knocking back enemies. Upgrading reduces the cooldown time.

Ashs Pikachu Is Voiced By Ikue Ohtani

Pikachu Based Pokemon of all Generations | Pikachu Song

Ikue Otani is known in the anime world as a famous voice actress, having voiced Chopper in One Piece and Konohamaru Sarutobi in Naruto. But perhaps her most widely heard role is that of Ashs Pikachu in the Pokémon series; a role that shes been working hard at since 1997. And if youre wondering what exactly Otani does voicing a character that doesnt speak, just ask Otani herself, who claims that she is often teased for having such an easy job.

Otani has said in the past that although many think she only has to say pika pika, she actually gets scripts every episode that are vague and mostly say pikachu. Because of this, Otani says that she needs to come up with a plan for her performance; otherwise nothing will be conveyed to the audience. Otani goes on to say that she insists on recording new material for every bit of Pikachu dialogue across all of Pikachus appearances. This way, she says that no matter what shes instructed to say, she gives every single word her all.

Ash Was Once Transformed Into A Pikachu

One of the more interesting facts in Pokémon canon is that, yes, its apparently possible for humans to turn into Pokémon. Although its not something youll see every day, its the type of Pokémon fact that makes long-time fans scratch their heads and say huh. A shining example of this is when in the episode Hocus Pokémon Ash found himself on the receiving end of a spell that would enable him to think like a Pokémon. Of course, the spell backfires and ends up turning Ash into a Pikachu complete with his own eyes, voice, hair, and infamous hat.

This Ash-Pikachu hybrid ended up being called Ashachu because why not and is still remembered fondly by fans. And while the transformation was temporary and ended up getting reversed by the next episode, it opens up a lot of possibilities for future transformations of humans into Pokémon. In the meantime, all we can do is set our desktop wallpapers to a photo of Ashachu and remember the good old days.
