What Do Evolution Items Do In Pokemon Go
If youve spun a Pokestop for the seventh day in a row or finished your weekly research breakthrough task and found a brand new shiny thing youve never seen before, you can say hello to your first Pokemon Go evolution item. You might even have a few you dont know you have, so pop into your items list and have a quick scroll.;
Evolution items were introduced with the Gen 2 update all the way back in 2017 and mean a whole stack of new mon via evolution if you hoard your candy just right. So far, weve only got one fourth generation item, the Sinnoh Stone, but youre going to need it for a stack of 4th generation Pokemon evolutions. More on that below but the current evolution items are as follows:
- Dragon Scale
- Mossy Lure
- Glacial Lure
Each one can be used to evolve one of your existing Pokemon into a new evolution. Below are each of the ways you can use evolution items.
Get Swole With Mega Evolutions
Pokemon Go has new mechanics that add depth to the gameplay. With Mega Evolutions, select Pokemon can become more powerful versions of themselves for a limited amount of time.
To activate this feature, you’ll need to accrue Mega Energy for the Pokemon you wish to evolve. The best way to score Mega Energy is by beating Mega Raids as fast as you can.
Battles In The Pokmon Go Battle League
Battles within the Go Battle League are set up the same way as Trainer Battles and Team Leader Training Battles. You select three Pokémon and will be matched up with another Trainer at random. The Battle begins with your first Pokémon against your opponent’s first Pokémon, and until a Pokémon is sent out, neither Trainer knows what the other has brought with them. If you’re lucky, the Pokémon you’ve chosen will have a Type advantage, or at least not be weak against the other Trainer’s choice. There are definitely some Pokémon better suited for these Battles than others, but there isn’t a single Pokémon that cannot be countered, so there’s a fair bit of luck involved in winning these matches.

Like other Battles within Pokémon Go, you’ll mostly be using your Fast Move until you’ve built up your Charged Move, which will involve hitting several bubbles on the screen to determine how strong it hits. Each Trainer will have two Shields they can deploy against any Charged Move, but dodging isn’t really an option like it is in Raids. Whichever Trainer’s Pokémon faint first loses. The winner will move up in Rank, as well as get an increase to their Matchmaking Rating. The loser won’t lose Rank, but in higher Ranks, you can lose points in your Rating.

Complete Research Tasks To Gain Bonuses
Field research tasks are essentially a list of quests given to you when you spin a Pokestop, like, Use 5 Berries to help catch Pokemon, or, Catch 10 Pokemon with Weather Boost. Completing them successfully gives you various bonuses including Stardust, items, and encounters with rare Pokemon like Jynx.There are currently three kinds of tasks:

Field Research: These are basic goals with a single objective. You get one of these a day and theyre usually something simple like spinning a Pokestop.

Special Research: These tasks are more story-based and give you multiple goals that require several steps to complete, like catching and transferring a Pokemon.

Research Breakthrough: These tasks are based on collecting stamps and give you rewards like Stardust, items, and rare Pokemon encounters.

You can only have up to three tasks at a time, but dont worry, you can trash a task if you think you cant complete it successfully. Clearing a task allows you to pick up a new one.
Should You Evolve Before You Power Up Or Power Up Before You Evolve
We don’t actually have an answer to that question right now. There are several theories going around internet forums advocating each approach, but we haven’t necessarily found them to be true. We tried experiments with seemingly identical Pokemon, but one of them was more powerful when we evolved it first, while the other was more powerful by powering it up first.
We’ll experiment more, and we’ve asked Pokemon Go developer Niantic for more info, too.
But in short, here’s how this game seems to work so far:

How Should You Use The New Appraisal Feature
The new Appraisal feature is a great way to quickly discover how powerful your new Pokemon are. Finding out that an old favourite has a three star rating is incredibly gratifying.
It’s especially useful for when you’re comparing a bunch of the same Pokémon, as you can keep the stat appraisal screen open as you move between Pokémon. This allows you to quickly compare stats and star rankings as you try to decide which Pokémon to keep and which ones to release.
You can even search for Pokémon by their specific star tier, just like how you can search for them by name. To do this, you’ll need to search:
- 0* = 0 Stars
- 3* = 3 Stars
- 4* = 3 Stars with a red background / 100% Pokémon
The new ranking system makes it a lot easier to decide which Pokémon are worth investing your Stardust and Candy in. Though it’s still important to remember a Pokémon’s rarity and whether it’s one of the best Pokémon in the game.
Though by and large the closer to 100% this is the better, depending on the Pokémon, some individual stats are more important than others – so it isn’t the be all and end all.
For example, if you have a Snorlax – one of the best creatures to put in a gym with its high health – with a low HP stat, that makes it a less attractive proposition. But then again, because it’s rare, you might not have any alternative Snorlax to rely on. Of course, an average Snorlax will still perform better than others in its field, so it could still be worth Powering up.

How To Manage Motivation
So youve captured the gym and put your best team in it. Youre set, right? Theres no way someone is going to take it from you. That used to be the case, but with the latest update things have changed. How Iv Affects Max Cp
Lets say I have two Snorlaxes and I am a level 40 player . Both are currently at 2500 CP, but:
- one has 100% IVs and Max CP of 3355
- the other has 0% IVs and Max CP of 2926
If I chose to power up the 100% IV Snorlax to its max CP, I would need to power it up all the way to 3355 CP, which is the max CP Snorlax can have . However, if I were to power up the 0% IV Snorlax, it would only go to 2926 CP which is the max it can have with 0% IVs.

When it comes to a Snorlax, you can expect there is approximately;a 400 CP difference between 100% IVs and 0, but lets not forget that;Snorlax is one of the highest CPs in the game: this 400 CP difference is around the maximum difference between highest and lowest CP of any given Pokemon.
This really isnt a huge difference.;If you have a Pokemon that is in the highest or second highest IV tier, it really is not;that far away from perfect Max CP. So evolving a Pokemon with IVs in the first or second tier is a good idea, you dont need to wait for the perfect IVs.
Never power up a Pokémon;before evolving it! If you get a bad moveset, its CP value doesnt really matter and you probably dont want to power up it!
Bag Upgrades In Pokemon Go
Trainers start their Pokemon journeys with a base 300 capacity inventory storage. You can then increase your inventory capacity via Bag Upgrades which are available in the Pokeshop for 200 Pokecoins each.
