How To Get Lapras
In order to get Lapras, you will need to head to the Wild Area – specifically the Lake of Outrage. Supposedly, it is far more common to see Lapras when it is raining rather than sunny.
The Lapras will be around level 60 and has the move ‘sing’, so be sure to bring a strong team and be ready to bring a Pokemon that can inflict a status condition .

Pokemon Sword And Shield Surf
Whether youre new to the Pokemon franchise or a veteran who has played plenty of the games, youll no doubt be wondering how to cross water in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Both in the Wild Area, where dens sit in the middle of lakes, to the town and city areas, there is water to surf on. While there isnt a Surf HM location to find, there is a bike water mode upgrade that you can get. This will allow you to cross water in Sword and Shield.
How To Surf In Pokemon Sword & Shield
Unlike most titles in the series, you can actually get Surf pretty early in Pokemon Sword & Shield.
As soon as you reach the Wild Area, navigate to the exit on the other side of the water. Once you do, youll find a vendor dressed in black and white.
One of the TMs he is selling is none other than Surf. To purchase it, youll need to have 5,000 Watts.
Considering the high amount of currency it costs, it is entirely likely youll have to come back to this later. Once you are able to afford it though, one of the most powerful water moves in the game is at your disposal.

Where Is The Razor Claw Sword
The Razor Claw is most easily found in the Dusty Bowl midsection of the Pokemon Sword and Shield Wild Area. Theres a lake with a small cay at its rear, and you need the Rotom Bike to cross the water and get to it. You can also buy one with 10 BP if youve beaten the game and unlocked the Battle Tower.

As we mentioned in the intro, Pokemon Sword and Shield works differently than other Pokemon games when it comes to crossing bodies of water. Rather than teach a Pokemon like Lapras how to Surf, youll need to get a Bicycle and upgrade it if you want to travel over water in Pokemon Sword and Shield.
If you havent grabbed your Bicycle yet, we have a handy guide that will walk you through the process. The short version is that you earn the Bicycle as a reward after saving a man from Team Yell along Route 5. With the Bicycle, you can increase your movement speed as you travel between towns. Later on in the game, you can upgrade your Bicycle to do other things for you, like mimic how Surf works.
To upgrade your Bicycle to travel over water, youll need to progress through Pokemon Sword and Shield until youve earned your 6th badge in Circhester. After that, head down Route 9 towards Circhester Bay. There, youll encounter a similar situation to when you first received your Bicycle on Route 5. Again, youll need to save an NPC from Team Yell.
If you see a Water-type Pokemon like Gyarados swimming around, you can battle and/or catch them by bumping into them while on your Bicycle .

If you are a longtime Pokemon fan, chances are you have at least heard of the Surfing Pikachu, a rare version of the regular Pikachu which knows the move Surf.
Although Surfing Pikachu have existed in the games as far back as Generation 1, they were often only distributed via events or were otherwise extremely difficult to acquire. For example, in Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon, players had to earn the highest score in the Mantine Surf minigame in order to get a Surfing Pikachu.
However, this has all changed with Pokemon Sword & Shield, as any Pikachu can now learn Surf by using TR04, which can be obtained from Raid Battles. Unfortunately, this treatment does not seem to have extended to the Flying Pikachu, as Pikachu still cannot learn Fly via TM.

How To Surf Using The Rotom Bicycle In Pokmon Sword And Shield
The Rotom Bicycle in Pokémon Sword and Shield is a handy device. You first receive it on the way to the second gym, on Route 5, where you encounter a scientist bullied by a pair of Team Yell members. After the scientist gives it to you out of thanks, you can travel much faster around the map. Thankfully, the Rotom Bicycle comes with an upgrade to go across the water.
To add this upgrade to your device, you need to progress further into the game. Theres no shortcut method of acquiring it or finding a way to speak to a particular person.
The Rotom Bicycle upgrade is given to you by the same scientist, whom you encounter again later on in the game, on Route 9, shortly after youve gone through Circhester.
With the upgrade, all you have to do is have your bicycle out while youre approaching water and continue to ride into it. Your bike deploys two large balloons on your wheels, allowing your character to pedal across the water as if it were land.
Doing so allows you to catch Pokémon casually strolling through the water. Its similar to all of the Pokémon freely wandering the wilderness in the Wild Area on land. Its important to note you cannot interact with any of the watering spots while on your Rotom Bicycle to go fishing. You need to hop off your bike to do that.

How To Surf In Pokmon Sword And Shield
Instead of teaching a Pokémon the move Surf, you’ll now be able to cross water once you obtain the appropriate bike upgrade. This occurs after defeating the 6th gym leader in Circhester and making your way down to Circhester Bay on Route 9. You’ll notice two Team Yell members hassling another NPC. After defeating them in battle, the NPC will reward you with a bike upgrade that allows you to travel across water.
All you need to do to use this upgrade is simply be riding your bike. It will automatically switch to the floating bike as you transition from land to water. You can’t fish while on your bike, however, so you’ll need to go back on land and stand by the edge to use your fishing rod.

Surfing works a bit differently in Pokémon Sword and Shield than it has in previous games, but as ever it’s still just as important. Surfing allows you to cross water and catch Pokémon you are unable to run into on land. Because this progression is story-related, you won’t miss out on the ability to cross water.

How To Get Surf
When Surf was introduced in Gen I as an HM, it was not only used as a strong Water attack, but also as your method of swimming across bodies of water. That all changed starting in Sun and Moon with the removal of HMs, so now Surf is only a TM.
While not an HM anymore, Surf is still every bit as powerful a move that any Water type Pokemon should have in their arsenal. Surprisingly, you can actually get Surf pretty early on in Pokemon Sword and Shield as soon as you reach the Wild Area.
The first time you reach the Wild Area, your goal is to make it to the exit on the other side that you can see straight ahead, so navigate around the water and eventually youl make it there. Just outside of this staircase, youl see two people to the left, one in yellow and one in black and white. You want to speak with the one on the left in black and white, who will have some interesting items for sale.
This seller uses Watts as currency, which are acquired through various means in the Wild Area. In his store, he has a number of items, mostly consisting of TMs, for sale. The last one on the list is the one we want here though, as you can get Surf for 5,000 Watts. This is a hefty number early on, so you need to start exploring in the Wild Area and early enough to pick up this fantastic TM.

How Do I Upgrade My Rotom Bike To Level 5
Once you speak to Watt Trader, select the option, Improve my bike, which will allow them to increase how often you can speed boost. You can upgrade your bike three times. The first upgrade will cost 1,000 Watts, the second will run you 3,000 Watts, and the final upgrade will be a whopping 5,000 Watts.

Where To Get Rotom Bike Speed Upgrades
You’ll notice that if you hold down B while riding the Rotom Bike, you get a temporary speed boost. You’ll have to manually recharge this ability by riding around on the bike for roughly 5 or 6 seconds after a boost, but this is vital in winning any of the time trials that are scattered around the wild area just south of Motostoke.
To upgrade the boost feature of the Rotom Bike, you’ll want to find the Pokemon Nursery in this wild area. Check your map, and go to the area just east of Motostoke, where you should see a small building near the eastern edge of the map. This is the Pokemon Nursery, one of several in Sword and Shield.
Approach the Pokemon Nursery, but don’t enter it. Instead, speak to the trainer dressed in cycling gear that’s stood just to the left of the building. He’ll brief you on the Rotom Races, time trials that you can enter to win items. But he’ll also offer to upgrade the top boost speed of your Rotom Bike for 1,000 Watts.

If you don’t already know, you acquire Watts in Pokemon Sword and Shield by approaching glowing husks on the ground, like the one pictured just below. If the husk isn’t glowing too brightly, you’ll be granted 50 Watts, but if the husk is glowing, and you can initiate a Dynamax battle there, you’ll be automatically granted 300 Watts for engaging with it.
