Pokemon Go: Charizards Top Move Choices For Pve And Pvp
Charizard has quite a few moves at its disposal when it comes to combat, so trainers have substantial flexibility when picking a moveset that complements the Kanto starter well.
All of Charizards current moves in Pokemon GO can be found below:
Fast Moves
- Blast Burn
- Flamethrower
While many Pokemon in Pokemon GO have five to six moves in their entire collection, Charizard has five moves for both Fast and Charge moves, giving it plenty of attacks to choose from.
As such, it can be tricky to decide which are worth using TMs on. Depending on what role a trainer intends to use Charizard in, the top moveset picks are slightly different:
PvE Attack and Defense
- When attacking gyms, raid bosses, and Team GO Rockets Shadow Pokemon, Charizard can obliterate its Pokemon GO opponents with Fire Spin and Blast Burn. If players want to keep a Flying-type attack in their arsenal to take advantage of type matchups, they can also run Wing Attack and Blast Burn. Blast Burn should probably stay the preferred Charge Move for Charizard in nearly any PvE situation, as the Same Type Attribute Bonus it receives makes it one of the top Fire-type PvE picks that dont enter the Legendary Pokemon category.

How Do I Make The Most Of This Community Day
Stardust obtained from catching Pokémon during the event period will be tripled, so if you have any Star Pieces, consider using them before going on a Charmander-catching rampage. Completing Field Research and Timed Research will also reward Charizard Mega Energy.
Regular Charizards best moveset for raiding and gyms is Fire Spin and the legacy move, Blast Burn. However, if you plan on Mega Evolving your Charizard, evolve it during the event to get Dragon Breath. Pair it with Dragon Claw to do quite a bit of damage.
If youre deciding which Shiny Charmander to evolve at the end of the day, try using one of the new search strings. Sort your mons by recent using the lower right icon, and then type 4* in the search box at the top. This will let you know if you have any 100% IV Charmander. Most people wont be so lucky, so next youll want to type 3* in the search box, which will show you any recent mons that are 80% or above. Appraise these to see which one is best, and then evolve your new buddy!

Best Charizard Moves In Pokemon Go
Charizard has had a lot of different moves, courtesy of being around for every move rework Niantic has done, so this will be a long chart.
Fast Move | |
---|---|
Dragon | 17.92 |
*Keep in mind that STAB cycle DPS calculations just compare the different movesets and they are not Pokémon-specific
- An important consideration however, is while these are accurate DPS listings, some of these moveset combination are impossible, such as any of the legacy moves with Blast Burn.
- Blast Burn outdoes Overheat in any available category with any available fast move. Which makes sense, as Blast Burn is indeed the best available Fire type charge move.
- As far as being a mixed type attacker, Wing Attack is superior to Air Slash, although not by terribly much. In any case, if you have one, it has some small utility against Grass and Bug types if weather is Windy.
- Ember is a trophy at best, as is Flamethrower with the advent of Blast Burn.
- Dragon Claw is best kept to surprise Dragon type attackers in gyms like Dragonite and Rayquaza, if you have it in a gym for whatever reason.

A Special Attacker Who Rules In The Harsh Sunlight
Charizard’s Hidden Ability Solar Power allows it to deal damage it normally would not be able to given its Base Stats. In Sword & Shield, Max Flare allows it to set up harsh sunlight automatically, and Max Airstream allows it to boost its speed, making Charizard able to set itself up to sweep without needing the support of its team.
Ultra League: Premier Cup
![[Screenshot] 100% IV Charizard with perfect moveset ...](https://img.pokemonbuzz.com/wp-content/uploads/screenshot-100-iv-charizard-with-perfect-moveset.jpeg)
For anyone not familiar with Premier Cup in Go Battle League, this introduces some restrictions on the available Pokémon you can choose from. This game type eliminates legendary and mythical Pokémon from the meta. Removing legendary Pokémon allows other Pokémon to shine and changes the typing meta.
The strongest legendary Pokémon in regular Ultra League are Psychic, Ghost, Steel, and Dragon types, which controls what non-legendary Pokémon are viable. Premier Cup allows for a much more diverse meta and opens up your options, which makes this game type very popular among battlers. Most battlers will likely choose this game type over regular Ultra League to avoid costly and difficult legendary Pokémon.

Pokmon Go Charizard X
Unlike a regular Charizard, which is a Fire and Flying type, Charizard X is a Fire and Dragon type Pokémon. Thats right, the Pokémon that most resembles a dragon can now be an actual Dragon type. While that may be exciting to think about, it does come with some repercussions for you when trying to battle one. This change in types means Charizard X wont have double weaknesses like a regular Charizard, but instead has regular weaknesses to Rock, Ground, and Dragon.

Charizard X will have no major surprises in terms of moves, but that doesnt mean they dont pack a major punch. Fire type moves like Fire Spin and Ember are common, as well as Blast Burn, but he might also still have a strong Air Slash or Wing Attack.
Mega Charizard X gains a major boost to its Fire type moves in sunny weather, but will also help any Ground types you have if youre looking to capitalize on that type advantage. If the weather is partly cloudy or windy then taking in a Dragon will be your best bet, so long as youre careful of any Air Slashes or Dragon Claws coming at you.

What Kind Of Pokemon Do You Use With Torterra
Even though Torterra is an excellent physical tank, Ice-type attacks will usually be enough to take it down. As such, pairing Torterra with Pokemon that can take Ice-type attacks is a good idea. Lanturn makes a great partner as it can easily sponge Ice-type attacks in addition to Fire-type attacks, while also scaring away the users.

Ultra League: All Pokmon
This is the classic Ultra League game mode, which does not restrict any Pokémon for use in battle. In this mode, legendary Pokémon dominate the meta. However, there is some changes happening with the introduction of XL Pokémon. We can expect that XL Pokémon will disrupt legendary dominance in this game mode once XL Pokémon become more widespread and common in the meta. Powering up and unlocking second moves on legendary Pokémon can be very expensive, but we recommend doing it if you want to be competitive in this game mode. There are budget options, but non-legendary Pokémon struggle to keep up with legendary stats.
How Do I Unlock Charizard In Pokmon Unite
As one of the most popular monsters around, TiMi identified a key way to get people spending their Aeos Coins and forking out for Aeos Gems by locking Charizard behind a paywall. It isnt the biggest paywall, but unlocking Pokémon Unite Charizard means saving and spending 6,000 Aeos Coins or 345 Aeos Gems through the in-game Unite Battle Committee shop.

Fire Spin Or Wing Attack* Or Dragon Breath* + Blast Burn* And Dragon Claw
Fire Spin is the more preferable fast move for Charizard, with slightly better energy gains than Air Slash, and offers Fire-type coverage. Wing Attack features the most energy generation, though by a small lead, at the cost of less damage output. Dragon Breath is a powerful move, but lacks STAB, and generally falls behind against neutral opponents.
Blast Burn is a limited move obtained through Community Day events, but it’s mandatory for optimal usage of Charizard. An incredible 2.2 DPE rating allows Charizard to output huge amounts of damage without paying high energy costs. Even when resisted, Blast Burn would still have a greater DPE value than neutral Dragon Claw, but not when it would be doubly resisted. Dragon Claw is recommended for its cheaper energy cost and Dragon-type coverage. The update to Overheat following the Dec 2019 rebalance makes it a decent choice if Blast Burn is unavailable, but a significant self debuff of -2 ATK makes it more risky and less reliable. Fire Blast costs too much energy, and Flamethrower is a direct downgrade of Blast Burn.

Pve Offensive Moves Explanation

-
Fire Spin is Charizards best fast move and strictly superior to Ember.
-
Wing Attack* is preferable to Air Slash and equal to Fire Spin if both have the same effectiveness.
-
Blast Burn makes Charizard one of the strongest Fire-type attackers.
-
Overheat is Charizard’s best non-exclusive charged move and beats Fire Blast soundly.
-
Flamethrower has less cycle DPS than Overheat and is just a worse Blast Burn, but has advantages due to multiple charge bars.
- Dragon Breath and Dragon Claw can work as a pseudo-dragon attacker, and are only useful for preparing a Mega Charizard X.
- Return has no purposes on offensive Charizard.

Is Charizard Good In Pokemon Go
Firstly, lets take a look at all of Charizards Fast Moves for a comparison:
- Dragon Breath 4 DPT, 3 EPT
- Air Slash 3 DPT, 3 EPT
- Ember 3 DPT, 3 EPT
- Fire Spin 3 DPT, 3.33 EPT
- Wing Attack 2.5 DPT, 3.5 EPT
As we can see, Dragon Breath provides the most damage. It may fall behind in terms of energy, but the sacrifice of 0.5 EPT is worth the extra 1.5 DPT.
Using it will naturally give you a greater advantage against dragon-types such as Giratina, but it does come at the cost of ineffectiveness against steel and fairy-types.

Pokemon Go Mega Charizard Y Counters
Mega Charizard Y retains regular Charizards Fire and Flying typing, making it weak to Water, Electric and Rock-type attacks. Rock attacks are the best way to take down Mega Charizard Y as it is four times weak to it. And luckily for trainers, Mega Aerodactyl is now in the game, giving them access to a powerful Mega who can boost the attacks of other Rock types on their team.
Going with a full Rock-type team with Mega Aerodactyl, Rhyperior and Tyranitar is a great way to take down this Pokemon easily. Throw in others like Terrakion or even Golem and Rampardos will really help.
Trainers looking to go the Water route will want to bring Mega Gyarados or Blastoise into battle. Gyarados hits a bit harder, but Blastoise is a great, relatively cheap option with access to Hydro Cannon. Round our your Water team with powerful Pokemon like Kyogre.
Electric-type users should bring Mega Manectric as it deals a lot of damage and is at least neutral to all of Mega Charizards attacks, more on that later. Round out your Electric team with powerful Pokemon like Zekrom.
Heres a list of potential options to counter Mega Charizard Y in Pokemon Go.

Can Charizard Learn Blast Burn Pokemon Go
Blast Burn is a Fire-type signature move that the starting Fire-type Pokemon can learn in the main series games. In Pokemon GO, it has been confirmed that Charizard will be able to learn Blast Burn during the upcoming Community Day.
This sums up our guide for the best Charizard moveset in Pokemon GO. If you want to clarify something, please let us know in the comment section, and well get back to you as soon as possible.
Using The Move Rankings
Each Pokemon has a pool of Fast Moves and a pool of Charged Moves. Some moves might be better in one battle, and other moves might be better in another. For Trainer Battles, youll want know which moves will be the best ones to have in the most matchups. You might also want to know which Pokemon are the best candidates for a second Charged Move. The move details within each Pokemon ranking can help you determine that.
Moves are ranked using calculations primarily based on their damage and energy cost. Stat changes are also factored in. These calculations are run for each matchup, and then totaled across the format. Matchup weighting affects these numbers as well, so moves that would be used against significant meta targets will rank higher.
When looking at potential moves, keep an eye out for Pokemon that have a strong tendency toward a single Fast Move and a single Charged Move. These Pokemon will have their optimal moveset in the most matchups. On the other hand, some Pokemon see more balanced usage in their Charged Moves. This is where having a second Charged Move comes into play.
As an exercise, select any one Pokemon in the Team Builder tool and compare its battle histograms when it has one Charged Move and when it has two. If a second Charged Move improves its matchups, it might be one worth investing in.
