Measuring The Impact Of Pokmon Go
We measured the impact of Pokémon Go on physical activity by comparing activity levels before and after each users first experiential query and relate the level of engagement measured through search queries to the size of the effect on physical activity.
We compared the physical activity levels of Pokémon Go users with those of the control group population over time in relation to every users first experiential query . As described above, we used randomly sampled t0 for users in the control group. We measured the average number of steps over a period of 30 days before the first experiential query until 30 days after the first experiential query. Note that on some days a user might not have recorded any steps and we ignore this user on that day. We measured this average activity separately for the Pokémon Go user group and the control group. To improve graph readability, we smoothed the daily average activity through Gaussian-weighted averaging with a window size of 7 days, but we reported statistical tests on the raw data. We estimated 95% CIs through a bootstrap with 500 resamples .

Pokmon Go Revenue And Usage Statistics
Pokémon Go is an augmented reality mobile game tied to Nintendos best-selling Pokémon franchise. Gameplay sees users encountering the eponymous creatures in real-world settings, utilising mobile GPS. Users can catch and train the Pokémon, then battle against other users, mimicking gameplay of the videogame series.
Despite carrying the name of one of Nintendos marquee titles, Pokémon Go was developed by San Francisco-based game developer Niantic. Niantic specialises in AR games, and was originally founded as an internal startup within Google. The Pokémon Company, responsible for brand management, production, marketing and licensing of the franchise served as a go-between between the two.
The game launched in July 2016 and became not just a smash hit game, but a global cultural phenomenon. In the summer of 2016, it seemed as if there was no getting away from Pokémon Go. There was even a Pokémon Go Frappuccino! It also inspired 200,000 Spotify playlists.
Accordingly, a spate of records were broken.
Pokémon Go revenue in the first month broke records, at $207 million. This was despite its launch being staggered, with its Japanese release not occurring until two weeks after general release. It was also the most downloaded, topped most international charts, and grossed $100 million in a mere 20 days.
We have collected data and statistics on Pokémon Go. Read on below to find out more.

I’d like to keep using my Fitbit for all my health app needs, but no support in the game that gets me out the most is a bummer. When it’s time to get myself a new health tracker I’d like to stay with Fitbit, but I am willing to look at other products that support what I want/need If you’re playing Pokemon Go on an iPhone 5 or iPhone 5c, you won’t be able to for long. Pokemon Go developer Niantic has announced it will be dropping support for Apple devices that cannot be.

Effect on US Physical Activity
On average, users with one or more experiential query for Pokémon Go increased their physical activity by 192 steps a day for the next 30 days . Extrapolating this average effect size to 25 million Pokémon Go users in the United States , we found that Pokémon Go added 144 billion steps within the first 30 days to US physical activity. This is equivalent to walking around the equator 2724 times or 143 round trips to the moon.
Effect on Meeting Activity Guidelines
Using all users tracking steps at least seven days before and after their first experiential query for Pokémon Go, we found that that the fraction of users meeting physical activity guidelines, that is, getting 8000 average daily steps stays approximately constant for users with one or more experiential queries and control users . Note that these estimates are consistent with published estimates in the US adult population . However, for highly engaged Pokémon Go users with at least ten experiential queries, we found that during the 30 days after they started playing, 160% more users achieved 8000 average daily steps . For comparison, 21% of US adults met these guidelines .

Find Out If Your Business Is A Gym Or Pokestop
What makes Pokemon Go different from many other games is that it doesn’t keep people shut up in their rooms. The game runs off an augmented reality HUD, or heads-up display, of the real world. Players’ avatars explore with them as they catch Pokemon, collect rewards from PokeStops, battle other users at Gyms, and team up to defend their territory.
Figuring out whether your business is a PokeStop or Gym is the first thing you should do. PokeStops and Gyms attract foot traffic without any effort-players flock to them for rewards and to battle other players-and they can be leveraged for massive sales if you know how.
There is no official Niantic map that lists all the PokeStop and Gym locations yet. One workaround is to use the online map of portals created over the last three years for the game “Ingress,” also developed by Niantic, which maps virtually 1:1 with Pokemon Go’s PokeStops and Gyms.
Check out the map here after you install the Ingress app on your phone and sign in .
Once you have it set up, you’ll be treated to a searchable world map of different “portals”-each one being either a PokeStop or a Gym in Pokemon Go.

Who Reads The Fine Print
Most of us dont read the privacy policies of apps we use. Indeed, reading all of them would take about 30 days per year, one study found. So its safe to assume that many players of Pokémon Go which threatens to in daily active users — arent reading the fine print before logging on to chuck Poké balls, either.
To understand how the app can use data, it helps to know what data the app can collect.
For Android users, the game can access both the precise and general locations of the device as well as its camera permissions inherently necessary to play the game. The game can also access users USB storage, contacts, network connections and more.
For iPhone users, the game can access users location, camera and photos. Many iOS users log in through their Google account, which grants the app full access. This means, per Google, the app can see and modify nearly all information in your Google Account including Gmail, Google Drive, Google Maps and more.
For Players A Matter Of Value
Many companies, including Facebook and Google, sell user data and hand it over to authorities when asked. But Pokémon Gos constant location tracking and camera access required for gameplay, paired with its skyrocketing popularity, could provide data like no app before it.
Until that business model becomes more clear, Hong said he worries more about the physical threats and privacy quandaries posed by the app.
Since the games launch last week, armed thieves used the game to rob unsuspecting players. One mans home was marked as an in-game destination, causing strangers to flock there. Another player wandered across a dead body.
Whether Pokemon Go can sustain its popularity in the long term comes down to how aware users are of its privacy invasions and whether they deem it a worthwile trade-off for the games experience.
Its basically an issue of time as people become aware how these technologies work and their tangible clear value, Hong said. If people feel its out of proportion, people will delete the app.
Update: After this article originally published July 11, Niantic issued a statement . The company has since contacted Google to “reduce Pokémon Go’s permission to only the basic profile data that Pokémon Go needs.”

Here’s How The Game Can Collect And Use The Data Of Millions
Pokémon Go has taken over the world since launching last week, sending millions of users into the streets to collect and battle virtual monsters on their smartphones.
With so many players sharing their locations and other personal data with the app, what could happen to all that information?
As users hand over access to their phones precise locations, storage and cameras to play the game, the company behind the game reserves the rights to share the data it collects with third parties including potential buyers and law enforcement.
Thats the price to catch em all on the free-to-play game. And while companies regularly collect and profit from user data, Pokémon Gos massive popularity and reliance on users locations and camera access have raised eyebrows in tech circles.
Promote Your Local Pokemon On Social Media
Even if your business is nowhere near a PokeStop or a Gym, you’re still going to have Pokemon.
One way to get people excited about visiting your business is to get on social media and show off the valuable or rare Pokemon popping up in your area. To know what to look for, a Reddit user has created a handy rarity chart.
You could hire a member of your staff to sit on Pokemon Go all day, lay down Incense , and take screenshots of the Pokemon they capture.
A better option, though, might be to incentivize play on the part of your customers.
Consider running it like a referral program:
Do this right, and you could turn your store into a viral destination.

Pokemon Go Wont Work On Your Old Iphone Soon
An announcement was made by Niantic in mid-November 2021 that Pokemon GO would soon end support for older versions of iOS. Your iPhone running a version of iOS released before September of 2019. If you have an iPhone with software that old, now is the time to get an update from Apple. Also, who are you, and would you mind answering a few questions for us?
In September of 2019, Apple released the operating system known as iOS 13. If you have an iPhone running software older than this, Pokemon GO will cease to function in the very near future. To see which version of iOS your device is running, open Settings General About.
Niantic suggested that their next release will be the one thatll make this change. Theyve recommended that all iOS users make sure theyre updated beyond iOS 12 as soon as possible so as to continue to play without interruption.
No changes will be made to the devices that are supported by Pokemon GO. This means that if you have a very old iPhone, but your very old iPhone is able to run iOS 13, youll still be golden. Niantic suggested this week that their eldest iPhone model support remains the same iPhone 6s and newer.
Pokemon GO release version 225 will be the first that will cut off access to features from devices running iOS 12 or older. Any version 12.x counts in this youll need at least iOS 13 to continue forward in Pokemon GO once version 225 is released.
Is There A Niantic Customer Support Chat
the company has literally been named by several gaming publications as having the worst communication of any game company ever.
no, they do not have a support chat.
even the support email, for the first several months, was un-monitored by niantic’s own admission. only reason that changed was Goolgle Play store told them to start checking the inbox or be removed from the store and all transactions reversed.
No, just an email/ticket system.
Thanks. Would you happen to have the email address perchance?
if they did, everyone would have a 5 hour wait for a response
Actually, now there is. When I used the contact support button settings, within the game it administered a number of questions to figure out if it could auto answer my questions and finally at the end of it I spoke briefly to “Remy” their chat channel bot. When it determines it could not help me it said it was getting a member of support staff and that I would get a notification when they enter the channel. No cue or way to see how long that might be and no clarification of what kind of notification I will receive. Apparently, I’m stuck simply waiting on the channel. An hour had passed by…Wish me luck.
