Pokemon Go To The Polls

Must read

Pokmon Go Is The Perfect Campaign App

Pokèmon Go (to the polls)

Pokémon Go

The ease with which Clintons campaign flocked to Pokémon Go is partially an indication of how perfect the app is as a campaign tool. Campaigns have invested considerable time and money into mastering social media platforms like Snapchat, Twitter, and Facebook, but the payoff is uncertain. If you send a funny tweet, that might win your campaign a good press cycle but does it actually sway public opinion? Does it actually increase your odds of victory? The path to impact is so windy and indirect that evaluating whether your strategy is actually working is extraordinarily difficult.

Thats largely because those apps are not well-positioned to spur action outside their confines. Liking a tweet or sharing a Facebook post shows up as progress on the campaigns metrics, but whether it translates into more votes is uncertain. Indeed, some experimental evidence suggests .

Pokémon Go, by contrast, is explicitly designed to move players to action in real life. You have to walk to PokéStops to get supplies. You have to walk around to run into Pokémon you can catch. That makes it a great way to lure people into robbery traps, but it also makes it a great way to lure people into voter registration drives. That intrinsic connection to physical activity makes it much easier to assess its impacts on concrete electoral outcomes.

What We Have Cooking At Washingtonian:

Pokmon Go To The Polls

BySarah Myerson October 16, 2018

Just for a moment, lets remember 2016, and one of the my favorite quotes of all time: Hillary Clinton, at a July 2016 rally in northern Virginia, donning a brightly colored knit blazer, telling you to Pokémon Go to the polls. Clintons delivery was key here she delivered this line with the anger of a parent telling her child to go to bed, and the hesitance of someone who has never played or discussed Pokémon Go.

There is, however, a larger issue with this quote: Americans persistent reluctance to actually vote. Only 6 in 10 Americans voted in the 2016 presidential election, and 4 in 10 voted in the 2010 and 2014 midterm elections. There are a lot of potential explanations some people dont vote because they havent been able to register to vote. Others have been purged from voter rolls . Some people have work or other obligations which prevent them from going to the polls. Some people feel uninformed about how to register to vote, how to vote, who to vote for or why their vote matters. Young people are likely to move around the country and therefore feel disconnected from local politics. Campaigns are likely to focus on people who habitually vote, creating a cycle in which voters are targeted by information urging them to vote and therefore do so, while non-voters do not receive that information and continue to not vote.

Pokmon Go To The Polls : Joe Biden Tugs At Gen

Former Vice President and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden launched official Animal Crossing: New Horizons yard signs earlier last week, as yet another virtual approach to compel votes.

Starting Sept. 1, Animal Crossing: New Horizon players will now be able to show their support on their islands with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris yard signs, as a way for the Biden-Harris campaign to target a younger demographic of voters.

There will be four signs available, with signs displaying the Biden-Harris logo, Team Joe in Pride colors and a stylized image of Bidens signature aviator sunglasses.

After Animal Crossing: New Horizons released this past March, many players looked towards the game as a place of comfort and entertainment during the peak of COVID-19 cases during the same time.

According to a recent poll by The Hill, Biden has currently a 7% lead in votes amongst the ages of 18-34, a demographic that has grown up with Animal Crossing when the franchise first released in 2001.

The Trump Administration has already commented on Bidens approach, noting that Trumps campaign will be focusing in the real world with real Americans, said Samantha Zager, the campaigns deputy national press secretary, in an email to The New York Times.

This explains everything: Joe Biden thinks hes campaigning for President of Animal Crossing from his basement, said Zager.

Pokemon GO TO THE POLLS : PoliticalHumor

Why Rhyhorn? If youre a fan of only the original 150, that may be a bit confusing as Rhydon isnt anything super special. But we now live in an era of Pokémon GO where Rhyhorns third stage evolution exists, Rhyperior, and thats who everyone wants to get their hands on. Rhyperior is a Gen 4 Pokémon and elevates the Rhyhorn family tree by introducing a powerful final stage evolution. Add in a special move and a shiny variant and yeah, I can understand why he may end up being everyones final pick here.

But we will see. If weve learned anything from the last few elections its that polls can be wrong and people can change their mind. Is there a secret cluster of Machop fans who were too ashamed to voice their preference before this? We shall see.

The winners of this vote should be announced two days from now, and again, this is for the February 22 Community Day, and we should get more info about bonuses and a special move before then. I think this is a fun way to do Community Days going forward, and I hope it sticks around. Stay tuned.

The First Cabinet Meeting

We open on a broadcast by Daddy Master News . The Daddy Master reports that Pokemon have appeared all over the world, that the government is unsure about what to do about them and unsure about their threat level, and that a house fire was started in Scottsdale by a Charmander. This fire caused the death of a single mother.

The game begins, and the President, Vice President, and Secretary of Defense are already seated and ready to begin the meeting. Caleb B. Smith, Jr. rushes in late, and asks Freddie to scooch over so he can sit next to the president. When President Campos asks Babs what she thinks they should do about the Pokemon, she inadvertently suggests that they blow them up. When Caleb asks if this happened in a national park, President Campos turns on the TV. DMN reports that the Pokemon are appearing everywhere, including national parks. President Campos flips through the channels, and ends up on Bill Maher, who he mutes and plays in the background.

Caleb suggests a more imperialistic approach where they would annex a country like Haiti, turn it into a national park, and put the Pokemon there. This would be similar to a zoo. VP Wong suggests that they enact martial law, and Babs agrees. President Campos snaps and demands respect, then sums up everybody’s points. Caleb tries to backtrack, but President Campos doesn’t let him.

Pokmon Go To The Polls Returns From Our Worst Nightmares Of 2016

Clinton drops a Pokemon Go reference at rally

Pokémon GO developer Niantic is telling players to “Pokémon GO to the polls” in an ill-advised callback to the 2016 US presidential election.

Niantic is attempting to get fans to Pokémon GO to the polls” by partnering with several nonpartisan organizations in a depressing demonstration of just how little times have changed since 2016. With the 2020 US presidential election on the horizon, numerous parties have been frantically pulling out stops in an attempt to boost voter turnout. Just recently, for instance, it was revealed that Democratic candidate Joe Biden is posting election campaign ads inside Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

The phrase “Pokémon GO to the polls” owes its existence to the 2016 presidential election. The beloved AR phone game was released to the public that year, and it caused a vast social phenomenon that saw players leaving their homes in droves, bonding over the game and making new friends in a beautiful period of happiness and activity vastly removed from the stifling lockdown people are forced to live with these days. In a misguided attempt to connect with young voters over this brief cultural revolution, then-candidate Hillary Clinton remarked that “I don’t know who created Pokémon GO, but I want to figure out how to get them to have Pokémon GO to the polls.” It was a forced, unfunny joke, and the internet panned her quite mercilessly for it.

The Second Cabinet Meeting

The news updates again, reporting that a Twitter poll provided four options the American people are okay with when it comes to taking care of the Pokemon:

  • Classifying them as pets
  • Classifying them as legalized fighters
  • Making them full citizens
  • Wiping them out entirely
  • President Campos laments that Pokemon See Island is no longer an option. Babs insists that they should choose the fourth option Vice President Wong agrees with her. Caleb pulls out a Pokedex and shows them a dog-looking Pokemon, trying to appeal to President Campos’s love for his own dog, Roscoe, to get him to choose the second option.

Everybody’s phone begins to vibrate. They speak for a bit about viral tweets and the Department of Memes before looking to what actually caused the alert: a video of the Scottsdale housefire. It is revealed that the mother began the fire and the Charmander may have saved the girl’s life. It is also revealed that a wave of anti-Pokemon sentiment has begun to cross America.

Caleb insists that the problem with the country is single mothers, and Babs agrees. VP Wong texts his aide, telling them to short Petco’s stock. President Campos weighs his options .

All four of them decide to kill the Pokemon.

Punchlines: ‘pokmon Go To The Polls’

It’s possible to try a bit too hard to be down with pop culture, a crime that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was definitely guilty of after a recent Pokémon Go reference in front of a crowd of Millennial voters. Will her pun get younger folks to Pokémon Go and vote for her? Doubtful. But late-night comic Stephen Colbert will save you from groaning at Clinton, only by making technology puns that are even worse. Take a look in today’s Punchlines, above.

And Donald Trump is polling low, incredibly low, among black voters. Find out just how low, and what Conan O’Brien thinks should be done about it.

Pokmon Go To The Polls: Community Day Voting Is Live But Theres Already A Frontrunner

Pokemon Go (to the polls) : BromanderInChief : Free ...

    Pokemon GO

    Niantic

Pokémon GO is always trying to mix things up in the game, so in order to keep Community Day fresh, theyre having players vote on who they want to be the next Community Day Pokémon for the February 22 slot.

Voting is already live today, and will end at midnight in your local time zone. There are four options to choose from, as you can pick if you want Dratini, Vulpix, Machop or Rhyhorn to be your Community Day choice for this month.

Votes will be tallied by the number of Field Research tasks completed in that time, with one task being one vote. Head into the game to check those out now if you want.

Dratini was already a Community Day pick, one of the very first ones a long, long time ago. But its been long enough where I guess people may want to build their army of Dragonites out even further, as theyre always useful to some degree.

But even if fan voting is live now, its clear there is already a frontrunner for who might actually end up winning.

That would be Rhyhorn. How do I know that? Because a few days ago, the official Pokémon GO Twitter account had a poll asking if voting was held that day, who would players pick? Well, 155,000 people voted in that poll, and these were the results:

Don’t Miss: Pokemon Sun And Moon Eevee

Hillary Clinton Wants People To ‘pokemon

Hillary Clinton wants Pokémon Go players to help her take over the toughest gym of all: The White House.

Clinton’s campaign announced that the Democratic nominee would be hosting an event at a Pokéstop in an attempt to lure voters the same way that players of the popular mobile app lure rare Pokémon like Magmar and Dratini. The event will take place in Madison Park in Lakewood, Ohio, on Saturday July 16 at 1 p.m.

Chances are the campaign was going to hold the event there regardless, but everyone’s getting in on the Pokémon Go action these days.

Clinton went one step further when she referenced the game in a joke during a speech in northern Virginia today.

“I don’t know who created Pokémon Go,” the former Secretary of State said, apparently unaware that Nintendo and Niantic’s collaborated on the game. “But I’m trying to figure out how we get them to have ‘Pokemon-Go-to the polls.'”

    Oliver Darcy

Donald Trump, meanwhile, said he hasn’t played Pokémon Go yet, but added “I wish I had time,” while speaking to the Washington Examiner.

Then, he shared this video on Facebook:

2016 is so weird, you guys.
