What Does Weather Do In Pokmon Sword And Shield

Weather can do two things in Pokémon Sword and Shield. It will directly influence what spawns in the area. That means youll mostly find ice-type Pokémon in snow and fire-types in hot, sunny weather.

It also has effects in battle that may deal damage or boost the power of specific move types. For example, sunny weather will increase the power of fire-type moves and decrease the power of water-types moves, whereas rainy weather will do the opposite. How To Change The Weather In Pokemon Sword & Shield’s Wild Area

Weather is essentially an element you can’t completely control in Pokemon Sword & Shield, but you can manipulate it – and just like the classic Animal Crossing cheats of old, it’s all accomplished by messing with your Nintendo Switch’s real-world clock. You see, the wild area weather is changed every day at midnight, with the switch at midnight based on your Switch’s local clock time.

In real terms, this means you can manipulate the game by opening your Switch settings and changing the clock in order to keep ‘cycling’ the days in order to force the game to re-roll the weather for you until you get what you want. The date and time options can be found in the System tab of your Switch system settings, for the record. There is no punishment for changing the system date like this, but you will have some strange things on record, like Pokemon caught in the past or the future. Just tell people you have a TARDIS, or Delorean, or what have you…

However, Dreepy won’t be available there all the time you’ll specifically need to visit this location when it has either overcast weather, or is experiencing heavy fog or a thunderstorm. If you arrive when any of the other six conditions are in effect, no Dreepy .

Look For Sparkles On The Ground

While walking around the Wild Area, keep an eye out for sparkles. Interact with sparkles you see on the ground to pick up items like Tiny Mushrooms or curry ingredients like Fancy Apples. Sparkles can be found outside of the Wild Area, but the Wild Area refreshes and adds more sparkles to find over time.

CHANGE THE WEATHER in the WILD AREA! Pokemon Sword and Shield Tips and Tricks Guide!

Fire-type Pokémon have been popular since the beginning, and while there are not many in Sword & Shield, certain areas are great to search for them.

Fire-types have been a staple of the Pokémon franchise since the beginning, and their presence and prominence in the story of Pokémon: Sword & Shield keeps this popularity going. While Fire-type Pokémon play an important role in Galar, there is only a small number of them in the region’s Pokédex. This is applicable for the base game of Sword & Shield as well as the Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra DLC.

The Fire-types that are a part of this limited selection, however, can be important members of a gamer’s team. These Pokémon include those that appear as random wild and overworld spawns, which can be encountered multiple times, as well as special overworld encounters that occur less frequently. Although the habitat information of special overworld encounters cannot be found in the Pokédex, it is available on Serebii.net for players to fully understand how to use these pocket monsters in these rare encounters. While the presence of Fire-types is not abundant, there are several areas in the Galar region where players can find and capture some powerful Pokémon of this type.

First, you’ll want to completely shut down any games that are running on your Nintendo Switch. You can do this by hovering over the game on your Switch’s home screen, pressing the “X” button on your Joy-Con, and then selecting “Close.”

Then, from the Switch home screen, navigate to the console’s System Settings. The “System Settings” icon looks like a gear and is located between the Joy-Con icon and the power button on the bottom toolbar.

Once you are in the “System Settings” menu, scroll to the bottom and select the “System” menu. Next, select the “Date and Time” option by pressing the “A” button on the right Joy-Con.

This submenu allows you to change all of your time settings on the Nintendo Switch.

To customize the current time, select “Synchronize clock via Internet” to turn off the automatic clock.

Modify the date or time according to your choice and press OK. It doesn’t matter what time you choose, as long as it is different from the current time.

Return to the Nintendo Switch Home screen by pressing the physical “Home” button on your right Joy-Con Switch, then launch the game.

When you run Pokemon sword and shield and enter the wilderness area, the time of day and weather will change, depending on what you set your date and time.

Changing The Nintendo Switchs Date

Players can only change their Switch systems date through the main menu. From there, theyll tap the System Settings button on the right, in between the Controllers and Sleep Mode options. Then, scroll all the way down to the final option, System, and select the Date and Time option. The ability to alter date and time might be disabled at first, as the Switch can synchronize its own clock with the real worlds using the internet. This will have to be disabled in order to change the month to what the player desires. While this method can help find otherwise rare Pokémon, it may be a detriment in other Switch games. For instance, Animal Crossing: New Horizons relies on the current date for in-game events and mechanics, and changing the time to find certain Pokémon might distribute a players island life. Turnips, in particular, will rot if the time is every changed, so be wary when using this weather altering method. Once the date has changed, Sword and Shield can be opened again and the weather will instantly change to the desired outcome. The game does not have to be closed to change the date, letting players hunt Pokémon to their hearts content.

How To Ge Through The Wild Area When You First Visit

Consider this section our “walkthrough” part of the page, as if you’re following our walkthrough itself you should find yourself here before early on.

When you arrive in the Wild Area for the first time, you’ll be here because your train’s got stuck, thanks to some pesky Wooloo on the tracks. The first thing you should actually do is talk to the people inside the train station – two of them are the ones you need to talk to as part of claiming your rewards for playing the Let’s Go games – more on that in our guide on how to get Pikachu or Eevee as a reward for playing Pokémon Let’s Go.

There’s a lady right by the entrance to the Wild Area who’ll heal your Pokémon for you for free, if you need it, otherwise, you’re free to dive in when you’re ready!

Your next stop on the journey itself is of course Motostoke, which is the big, red-bricked city that’s straight ahead. You can go straight there if you want, or you can explore, it’s totally up to you. We recommend you explore and catch some Pokémon especially, as there are some really great ones to be found here, and it’ll help you maintain your squad’s level ahead of the Gyms you’ll face down the line, too.

How To Change WEATHER in the WILD AREA in Pokemon Sword & Shield

While the game itself doesn’t allow you to change the weather, you can do so through Nintendo Switch’s system clock. It won’t have any negative effect on your Switch or your game, other than changing the weather. Remember to go back to the current time when you are done.

To change the time on your switch, follow the steps below:

  • Access system settings
  • Scroll down to the System tab
  • Change your time zone
  • Save the change

You should change the increments of about two hours, as this will put you into a new weather cycle. You don’t even have to turn off the game to do this. Once you’ve changed the weather, try to catch the Pokémon you’re looking for, then set it back to your time zone.

It’s an easy way to spend less time waiting and moving around when trying to catch these rare ones. There is no guarantee that the next time zone will be the one that gives you the weather conditions you need. Also, be careful not to change it from day to night as it could negatively impact the spawning rate of the Pokémon you want.
