Pokemon Go: How To Catch Zapdos

New! How to defeat Giovanni – Shadow Zapdos in Pokemon Go!

Zapdos is only available as a legendary raid battle, so players who want to find it will need to track down their nearest raid location. These locations will differ from city to city, but there will most likely be a raid battle location at some kind of nearby landmark or heavily trafficked area. In order to catch Zapdos, players will first need to beat it during the raid battle. After it has been beaten, players will then have the chance to try and catch it.

Players will want to bring Pokemon with them that have type advantage Zapdos. This means that they will want to have Ice and Rock-type Pokemon because they are strong against electric Pokemon. One problem though is that Zapdos is resistant Ground-Type attacks so players won’t be able to use their typical tactics against the legendary Pokemon. The best Pokemon to have for this fight are Golem, Rhydon, and Tyranitar.

Depending on how much damage players do against the boss, they will get a certain number of premier balls to use to catch it. Players will only be able to use these balls against Zapdos, so players should try to do as much damage as possible in order to get more chances to catch the Pokemon. The player should try to wait until Zapdos is sitting still to try and capture it for the best chance.

Pokemon Go can be played on iOS and Android.

When the enemy team is contesting Zapdos, capitalize on it by ambushing them from behind. If you are alone, use the walls around Zapdos to maneuver around the area while avoiding confrontation. When you see Zapdos just about to fall, you can swoop down with a move and hopefully get the final hit! Overall, stealing Zapdos reward and effect is worth falling in battle for.

Team Instinct’s mascot Zapdos is the next Legendary Pokemon to come to Pokemon Go. Players will have from August 7 to August 14 to catch Zapdos, an Electric/Flying dual-type Pokemon that should present a harder challenge than Moltres and Articuno.

Unlike Moltres and Articuno, Zapdos doesn’t have a lot of weaknesses. Although it has a lower defense stat than Articuno, Zapdos doesn’t have a “double weakness” like its Legendary Bird counterparts. Because of this, it might take 6 to 7 trainers to beat Zapdos.

How To Get Shiny Zapdos In Pokemon Go

Unfortunately, shiny Zapdos doesn’t look that different from standard Zapdos in Pokemon Go. To the point where when Zapdos was originally released, Niantic accidentally gave it the shiny sprite instead of the standard one! That has since been fixed, but shiny Zapdos only looks slightly different. Nevertheless, it’s another one to catch for the shiny collection. If you do have an encounter with a shiny Zapdos, remember it has a 100% catch rate after a raid, like all shiny legendaries!

Shadow Zapdos will be 1 of the 3 possible Pokemon Giovanni will have. In order to encounter him, players will need to use a Super Rocket Radar. The game features two different ways to obtain this item.

  • The Higher They Fly: As a reward for completing the Special Research Task, players will be given a Super Rocket Radar to use. Check your Special Research Tasks to see if you’ve already done it or not.
  • Timed Research: If you’ve already used the Super Rocket Radar from the Higher They Fly event, the game will be hosting a Team Go Rocket Timed Research Task at the start of April. The item will be made available as a reward.

Which Pokmon Should I Use

Zapdos is an electric- and flying-type Pokémon. Its weaknesses are ice- and rock-type attacks, so prioritize building a team with Pokémon who have those in their arsenal.

As it did with Moltres, The Pokémon Company has a handful of tips on which are the best Pokémon to bring into the battle. Zapdos is the toughest of the three legendary birds to take down, with a strong resistance to numerous attack types. Golem is the top pick, according to its guide: Its a rock-type, for one, but its also a ground-type, which means electric-type attacks dont deal as much damage.

The Pokémon Company notes that rock-type Pokémon like Tyranitar and Rhydon, which cant land super effective hits on Zapdos, are often still strong enough to take on the bird.

Players on The Silph Road subreddit are less confident in Rhydons abilities, instead vouching for the ground-type Piloswine. The Pokémon Company co-signs that recommendation, adding that the attack Avalanche is especially good against Zapdos.
