Even if you have multiple Pokémon in gyms, you wont be able to earn more than 50 coins a day. We recommend putting your Pokémon in gyms that arent in extremely populated places, as this will help you rake in more coins. However, you dont want to put your Pokémon in a gym in a completely desolate area, or else itll never get kicked out.

What About Pokmon Type
Choosing the right type of Pokémon can make the difference between winning and losing a battle. The game employs a rock-paper-scissors type mechanic that sees each Pokémon belong to at least one of a series of classes that offset each other in battle. Grass is vulnerable to fire, fire to water and water to grass, for instance. Attacks on vulnerable Pokémon do at least twice as much damage. Some classes are immune to the attacks of others. Some flying Pokémon can avoid the attacks of some ground-based monsters, while some Pokémon have two types simultaneously. A pair of types can either be good by cancelling out the weakness of the other, or bad because you double up on weaknesses.
Create a favourable matchup with the Pokémon defending a gym by scouting ahead and planning carefully and you can defeat defenders with a higher level than your attackers.
How Do Gyms Work
Gyms are team-based objectives that reward coins when your Pokémon is in them. They can hold up to six Pokémon at once, and the Pokémon must belong to trainers of whatever team currently controls the gym.
If the gym is your color, you can plop in your Pokémon by hitting the button with the plus on it at the bottom right corner of the screen. If the gym is full and already has six Pokémon in it, you cant place anything else in there. You can only place one Pokémon per gym.
If the gym isnt your color, its time to battle. You will have to fight the Pokémon in the gym and lower their Motivation to zero. You dont have to battle alone, though. You can take on gym Pokémon with friends and members of the non-owning teams to wipe out the gyms. Once all the Pokémon are gone, the gym will turn neutral and you can place your Pokémon in it to claim it.

But A Golden Razz Berry Will Fill Up Your Pokmon’s Motivation Completely
Correct. If you manage to get a Golden Razz Berry by defeating a Raid Boss, you can use it to catch a very hard to catch Pokémon, or you can feed it to a Pokémon on a Gym to fully restore its Motivation. While this can be a way to hold onto a Gym currently under attack, it is quite costly and your rivals can stagger their attacks if there are three or more of them, preventing even a Golden Razz from keeping your hold on a Gym.

This quartet is made up of new evolutions of older Pokémon which all share the same base stat total of 535. Magnezone has an incredible typing in Electric/Steel, giving it a massive 10 resistances and an immunity. Rhyperior is a physical beast, with its HP, Attack, and Defense all being ridiculously high. Tangrowth has beautiful stats in general, with only its Special Defense and Speed being subpar.

Slowbro takes 200 Slowbro Mega Energy to evolve into Mega Slowbro for the first time and 40 Slowbo Mega Energy for subsequent evolutions. Heres how you can collect this specific type of Mega Energy:
- If you have a Mega Slowbro already registered in your Pokedex, make a Slowpoke your buddy. Youll receive 5 Slowbro Mega Energy for each kilometer walked.

A Redditor on Pokémon GO was kicked from a gym mid-raid when Niantic shut down the spot, which was located in a closed-down business, with no warning.
A Pokémon GO player on Reddit was left reeling when developer Niantic seemingly shut down a gym while they and other players were raiding it. It serves as a cautionary tale to players who are raiding gyms set up at businesses that have closed down or are shutting down, which is more prevalent recently in the wake of the pandemic.
In Pokémon GO, gyms are established in both public places and private businesses, but in the case of the latter, the gym isn’t established arbitrarily. Niantic, the game’s developer, has to secure permission from the owners of the business to establish a gym there after it’s petitioned by players. Many businesses approve, because the gym can mean extra foot traffic and more opportunity to sell products or services, but others do not, because crowds of players on their phones can be obstructive. If a business with an approved gym is shut down, the gym is eventually shut down with it, although there’s usually a gap between the two due to communication issues. Unfortunately, this can lead to unpredictability in gym shutdowns.

In May 2020, Niantic announced earning PokéCoins will be adjusted away from defending Gyms and towards other activities. This was amended again in June and August 2020 in response to community feedback and general testing, before being cancelled in October 2020 – rolling back to the existing Gym system.
“We appreciate Trainers’ participation in the test, and we’ll continue to look for ways to improve how players can earn PokéCoins,” said Niantic.
So how did it work? The following ways to get Coins was tested in Australia, Germany, New Zealand and Taiwan as part of an initial phase, before being scrapped. It’s unknown whether Niantic will take some of these for a possible revamp in the future – but for now, Gyms continue to be the only way to earn Coins for free in the game:
- The cap of the free number of PokéCoins you can earn is 50 per day .
- There is a cap on the number of PokéCoins you can earn from various sources – 30 from Gyms per day, 20 from featured activities per day.
- PokéCoins earned from defending Gyms will remain at six PokéCoins per hour .
- Featured activities include:
- Use a Berry to help catch a Pokémon
- Take a snapshot of your buddy
- Catch a Pokémon
- Win a raid
- Team Go Rocket-related tasks
To clarify how this worked – you could still earn PokéCoins by defending Gyms as before, but they were capped at 30 per day as opposed to 50 currently. From there, you can add to your daily PokéCoins total by completing highlighted activities, up to a total of 20.

Gyms also host PokéStops. You can click a PokéStop icon when you tap the gym to spin the emblem at the top. You get a reward bonus if the gym matches your team when you spin it, too. Spinning a gym PokéStop also rewards a free raid pass every day .
Gyms also host raids as indicated by a giant egg, and gyms of your color award raid bonuses.

To mega-evolve a Lopunny into Mega Lopunny for the first time, you need 200 Lopunny Mega Energy. Thats a lot, but thankfully, subsequent evolutions take only 40 Lopunny Mega Energy. Heres how to collect more:

- Regularly check new research tasks. They update with every new Event. At the time of writing the article, no tasks earn you Lopunny Mega Energy, but this can change.

Try To Get The Leader To Waste Their Potions
If you want to play extremely tactically, you can find out how many potions a gym leader has in their bank and force them to waste them on the weaker Pokémon. Get the weaker ones down to low hit points without ending them completely, and wait. The gym leader should keep using potions on them, where they wouldn’t have had the chance to had their Pokémon fainted, and this means by the time they send out their Big Bad, they’ll have none left to spare.
How Do I Make My Pokmon Better For Battle
As a general rule of thumb, you want to make sure your Pokémon have at least a 100CP advantage over those you meet in battle, with the greater the difference the better.
There are only two ways to improve the Pokémon you already have, and thats by either evolving them with evolution candies or to power them up with both evolution candies and stardust. Not every Pokémon is created equal, so choose the strongest for the current power level you have before beefing them up.
You collect evolution candies by capturing and transferring Pokémon to Professor Willow and are specific to the species that you caught. Stardust is given to you when you capture Pokémon but can be used across species.
The higher the level of your trainer, the more powerful Pokémon you are likely to come across, so it can often be prudent to wait until you level up your trainer before sinking a load of candy and stardust into your Pokémon.

Another tactic is to start the battle by severely decreasing accuracy. Using attacks like sand attack or mud slap, you can limit the amount of times the opposing trainer can actually hit you with attacks.
