Azumarill A Huge Powerhouse

Azumarill has been a staple of higher tiers of play since Gen 6, and the tools it brings back to Sinnoh make it a fantastic option for any battle. Casual players won’t be able to exploit its biggest strengths, but its good typing and fantastic moves are good enough to put it over the top.

Azumarill doesn’t bring Belly Drum in casual play, but its Attack stat with Huge Power can still be strong enough to break down Cyrus’s frail team. It packs Play Rough and Aqua Tail, which can easily break down his entire team. Gyarados, as always, will be the biggest threat, and Azumarill does struggle to completely sweep. Despite that, Gyarados’s moveset actually doesn’t threaten Azumarill, and a couple of Play Roughs should do the trick.

What If You Don’t Have The Best Movesets In Pokmon Go

Since the introduction of the Raid Battle system in June 2017, you can get Technical Machines to change your movesets. Two of the possible rewards for beating Raid Bosses are Quick TM and Fast TM, which can be used to change Quick Moves and Charge Moves respectively. Regular TMs are completely random and cannot access Legacy Moves.

Legacy Moves are special moves that were once available for a Pokémon but are no longer. Sometimes they were removed when Niantic re-balanced the game. Some were only available on Community Day or in special Raids. Either way, if a Legacy Move happens to be the best possible move for a Pokémon and you don’t have it, you cannot get it with a normal TM. Before you use a TM on any Pokémon, you should always check to see if the move you’re changing is a Legacy Move and if that move is worth having. A lot of Legacy Moves don’t perform well, but some of them are the best moves in the game.

More recently, Niantic introduced Elite TMs. These TMs are rare, and often difficult to get or expensive, but allow you to choose from any move a Pokémon can have, including Legacy Moves. They aren’t random either. You get to choose the move. Because of how hard it is to get Elite TMs, you’ll want to save them for your very best Pokémon, but hey, now you can have a Mewtwo with Shadow Ball and Psystrike!

What Are Tms In Pokmon Go Anyway

In any Pokémon game, TMs or Technical Machines are special devices used to teach your Pokémon new moves. In Pokémon Go, TMs come in four varieties: Fast, Charged, Elite Fast, and Elite Charged. Each can be gained in a few different ways and used once to change a Pokémons Fast or Charged Move. You can read more about how to get and use TMs in our TM Guide, however, if you already know the basics, read on for the best moves you can use your TMs to replace!

Best Counters For Mega Gyarados

Best Gyarados Moveset Pokemon Go

The absolute best counters would be Mega Venusaur with Vine Whip and Frenzy Plant, or Shadow Raikou with Thunder Shock and Wild Charge, but many players wont have access to those, so the list below should be more than enough:

  • Zekrom: This popular Gen 5 Legendary can take advantage of Mega Gyarados weakness to Electric-type moves with Charge Beam and Wild Charge.
  • Raikou: Another fan-favorite Legendary that can turn Mega Gyarados Electric weakness in its favor. Use the moves Thunder Shock and Wild Charge for the best effect.
  • Lucario: This Fighting/Steel-type is more than just a cool-looking Pokemon, with Counter and Aura Sphere packing a huge punch against Mega Gyarados.
  • Breloom: Being a Grass/Fighting-type, Breloom is an ideal counter against Mega Gyarados using the moves Counter and Dynamic Punch.
  • Conkeldurr: The final evolution of Timburr is a strong Fighting-type that can take on Mega Gyarados using Counter and Dynamic Punch.

Some more common counters that should still be effective are Machamp with Karate Chop and Dynamic Punch Roserade with Razor Leaf and Grass Knot Tangrowth with Vine Whip and Power Whip and Luxray with Spark and Wild Charge.

Its important to remember that Mega Evolutions cant be caught, but completing the Mega Raids will help players save up enough resources to temporarily Mega Evolve their own Gyarados, which will be a powerful asset going forwards.

Floatzel A Flexible Fighter

Floatzel is one of BDSP’s best Water-types. This Pokemon’s pre-evolution, Buizel, can be found outside of Floroma Town and is a great inclusion. Its stats are fantastic, packing great Attack and Speed that can match Cyrus’s fast-moving team. It also has decent HP, giving it the ability to take a couple of hits.

Against Cyrus, Floatzel’s movepool is its biggest adversary. While its STAB move Waterfall is a great choice, it also learns Ice Fang, which easily takes down Cyrus’s first two Pokemon. Against Weavile, a swift Brick Break should do the trick even with the berry. Gyarados is a bit trickier, but Floatzel can actually learn Rock Tomb for those inclined.

What About Secondary Charge Moves In Pokmon Go

SO DEVASTATING when your Gyarados has a garbage moveset (Pokemon GO)

With PvP Trainer Battles, Niantic also introduced secondary Charge Moves. You can buy them with Stardust and Candy, and TM them to whatever it is you need. So, what do you need? Typically, variety. If the best Charge Move is a full bar, get a secondary thats multi-bar. If there are two possible types for the Charged move, get both. For example, a Mewtwo with Shadow Ball or Psystrike is incredible, but one with both? Gamebreaker! However, adding a second Charge Move is expensive so make sure there is a good secondary move before spending on this upgrade.

The Best Moveset For Gyarados In Pokmon Go

What are the best moves for Gyarados?

While Magikarp is not the best Pokémon to many, its evolved form, Gyarados is a powerful Pokémon and it takes 400 Magikarp candy to evolve the flopping fish into the incredible evolution in Pokémon Go. Gyarados can learn a variety of moves, but there are a distinct few that make it truly shine. In this guide, we cover the best moveset to teach Gyarados in Pokémon Go.

Gyarados is a Water and Flying-type Pokémon. It will be weak against Electric and Rock-type moves, but it is resistant against Ground, Bug, Fighting, Fire, Steel, and Water-type attacks. We highly recommend using Gyarados in the Ultra and Master League competition against other players.

These are all the moves Gyarados can learn:

What About Types In Pokmon Go

It’s also important to keep in mind types! While some Pokémon only have one type, most have two and all Pokémon can learn moves from multiple types. Although most Pokémon have a single moveset that is the best for their whole species, there are some Pokémon who have multiple sets. Take Chandelure, for example Chandelure is a Fire and Ghost type and can be one of the best of either. If you’re using your Chandelure as a Fire type, you’ll want it to know Fire Spin and Overheat, but if you’re going for Ghost type, you’ll want Hex and Shadow Ball.

Gyarados In Pokemon Go: An Analysis Of Its Best Attacks

Fortunately, Gyarados is well worth the effort in Pokemon GO because it’s one of the best Pokemon to use in Ultra League, Raid Battles, and Gym defense. Having access to not only powerful Water-type attacks, but also powerful Dark and Dragon -type attacks, Gyarados has a lot of valuable coverage against glass cannon Psychic-types.

Gyarados is a great mid-game sweeper in Pokemon GO’s Battle League due to its fantastic attack stat of 237. Gyarados also has some bulky defenses to allow it to soak up some neutrally effective charged attacks.

Having Pokemon that fit this role is very important, as it can help reserve shields for more powerful charged attacks at the end of the battle. Gyarados also boasts a defense stat of 186 and a stamina stat of 216.

The right moveset for different Pokemon can mean a multitude of things. A moveset for Pokemon GO’s Battle League could be much different from a moveset for defending Gyms and Raid Battles. Looking at the best offenses for Gyarados, the best moveset is Waterfall for a fast attack and Hydro Pump for a charged attack. This moveset has the highest damage output thanks to Gyarados boosted power of Water-type attacks, as well as the high base damage of these moves.

Gyarados’ best moveset for these situations has Waterfall as its fast attack but utilizes either Crunch or Outrage for a charged attack, depending on the opponent.

Gyarados is 4x weak to Electric-type Pokemon like Zapdos and Regieleki. Therefore, teaming it up with Pokemon strong against Electric-types will help Gyarados take the stage and have an active role.

Additonally, it is best to leave the Dynamaxing to Gyarados and choose Pokemon that can be used without Dynamaxing.

Gyarados Gen 1 Best Moveset – Gyarados Best Moveset Pokemon Red Blue Yellow Version Guide

Despite its appearance, Armored Mewtwo is still a pure Psychic type, which means its vulnerable to the same kinds of Pokemon as a regular Mewtwo. Ghost, Bug, and Dark types in particular have an advantage over it in battle, so youll want to fill your team with Pokemon of those types before heading into the Raid.

Your best choices when facing Armored Mewtwo will be other Legendary Pokemon such as Darkrai and Origin Forme Giratina. Hydregion, Weavile, and Gengar can all dish out super-effective damage against Armored Mewtwo as well. However, Gengar will take super-effective damage in return due to its Poison typing, so it may not last very long. Scizor is another solid choice it can deal super-effective damage with Bug moves, while its Steel typing will help insulate it from Mewtwos Psychic attacks.

Two types of Pokemon youll want to avoid using, however, are Poison and Fighting. Each type is vulnerable to Psychic attacks, so theyll get knocked out fairly quickly by Psystrike. You can see more tips for facing Armored Mewtwo on the official Pokemon website.

Dragon Breath Or Waterfall + Aqua Tail* And Crunch Or Outrage

Dragon Breath is a blessing to virtually anything that has it, and Gyarados is definitely no exception. It sports 4 DPT and 3 EPT , which makes it Gyarados’ objectively best quick move despite lacking stab.

Aqua Tail is an incredibly cheap move that can provide frequent shield pressure. Hydro Pump can threaten KOs when not shielded, but its high energy cost makes it a less consistent option. Crunch provides good overall coverage, decent damage, and a reasonable energy cost, while Outrage is very powerful at a fair cost. This set provides Gyarados with a powerful catch-all playstyle that’s hard to come into, and is likely to deal meaningful damage even to Gyarados’ counters, while also allowing it to act on opposing dragons while not being hindered by a dragon weakness itself if packing Outrage.

You could also go for Bite, with 4 DPT and 2 EPT, making Gyarados an aggressive Dark attacker. It is worse against Giratina, however, and with it Gyarados becomes even slower. Waterfall is also not a bad move, and is better against Steel and Fairy Pokemon, but there are generally many superior Water-type attackers to choose from.

A Powerful Dynamax Lead

Gyarados is one of the most popular Dynamax leads this generation. It’s one of the few Dynamax leads with the coveted Max Airstream, which allows it to support itself and its teammates with a speed boost.

This, along with access to powerful STAB and coverage moves such as Waterfall, Power Whip, and Earthquake make it a great choice for Hyper Offensive teams.

Pokemon Go Mesprit Moveset

SO DEVASTATING when your Gyarados has a garbage moveset ...

Mesprits one unique Charged Attack is the Ice-type move, Blizzard. Mega Houndoom and Mega Gyarados resist Blizzard, but Tyranitar is hit neutrally by it. Hydreigon and Giratina are weak to Blizzard so trainers looking to use either will have to be wary of Mesprit using it in battle.

Like mentioned above, Mega Gengarand to a lesser extent Mega Beedrillare weak to Mesprit, Uxie and Azelfs Psychic-type moves. While Mega Gengar is a great attacker, it wont last long especially if any of the Lake Guardians have Future Sight as their Charged Attack.

Best Moveset For Mega Gyarados In Pokmon Go

The bar is about to be raised.

Image via Niantic

The mega Pokémon in Pokémon Go are beneficial to take down difficult five-star raids players encounter if they want to add legendary Pokémon to their roster. You can take them down with regular Pokémon, but you might have a bit more difficulty, especially depending on how many friends you have assisting you. A mega Pokémon works a bit differently when it evolves. It doesnt have its own moveset. Instead, it uses the moves its initial form uses, so whatever Gyarados you use to evolve into Mega Gyarados has the same moves. But because Mega Gyarados has different stats and typing than the original one, theyll be a bit different.

Mega Gyarados is a Dark and Water-type Pokémon. Its going to be weak to Bug, Electric, Fairy, Fighting, and Grass-type attacks, but its resistant to Dark, Fire, Ghost, Ice, Psychic, Steel, and Water-type moves. Itll have a wide assortment of things it can resist, making it a difficult Pokémon to take down, and itll be a monster at fighting legendary Pokémon during raids. Mega Gyarados has a maximum CP of 5,332, an attack of 216, a defense of 292, and a stamina of 247. Youre going to need a lot of firepower to break through its defenses.

Here are all of the moves Mega Gyarados can learn.
