Once you learn Sea Skim you’ll be able to find plenty of Water-type Pokemon in the water, no fishing required.
Where To Get An Old Rod In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl
In order to get a fishing rod in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you will have to get to Jubilife City. This is a very early town so you will get there quickly.
Once you get there, take the route west towards Route 218 and enter the building there. Inside you will see a man with some fishing gear. He will ask you if you like fishing or something like that. Say yes and he will hand over an Old Rod, which you can use to fish up some Magikarp.
Now head to some water and go into your inventory to use the fishing rod. If you get a ! over your head then a Pokemon has bit the line. You need to then hit the reel in button and reel the Pokemon in. This will trigger a battle, so be ready to fight. Catch or beat the Pokemon to finish fishing. You can also set it to your hot bar and use it quickly if you want.

Do you need to get a Fishing Rod? Where do you get the Fishing Rod in Pokémon: Lets Go? These are all great questions, which well answer in this article.
How Do You Fish Lets Go Pikachu
Unlike the original Pokémon games, Pokémon: Lets Go does not include a Fishing Rod that players will need to find and use to catch water-type Pokémon. Instead, youll need to unlock a secret technique call Sea Skim in order to travel on water and be able to catch water-type Pokémon in Pokémon: Lets Go.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Fishing
Like previous generations, Fishing is a pretty simple mechanic. Trainers simply have to walk up to an edge of the water and tap A button to cast their line, before tapping it again once an exclamation mark pops up.
In the Game Freak series reeling it in simply triggers a Pokemon battle with the water mon. While skill cant really help you out here, there is a major component to the feature that will increase your odds of catching rare Pokemon.
In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, the mon you encounter in the water is completely determined by the Fishing Rod you have unlocked. The better the gear, the more characters you can actually catch. Below we will break down how to unlock each of the items.
How To Get Old Rod In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Trainers can get their hands on the Old Rod fairly into the game. After embarking on your journey the first major location you will visit is Jubilife City. Before heading east to Oreburgh City, go through the left exit to enter the Route 218 tunnel.
Inside the passageway, you will see an NPC standing in the middle of the hallway in an orange getup. Talk to the Fisherman who will give you the Old Rod completely free. After giving you a brief tutorial on how to use the item, you are good to go!
We must warn you, however, the Old Rod is easily the worst out of the bunch. In most locations, you can only catch a Magikarp. This isnt too bad though as you can catch the Water-type early in the game on Route 203. With Exp Share, you will have a Gyrados at level 20 in no time.

Is There A Fishing Rod In Pokemon Lets Go
In Pokemon Red and Blue and Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green, getting your first fishing rod was easy. All you had to do was make it to Vermillion City and talk to a fisherman there. Those playing Pokemon Lets Go will discover that option isnt available. The Fisherman that used to give you the Old Rod isnt there. This can make things confusing for those wanting to add a Magikarp to their team early on in the game.
By the same token, the Good Rod Guru is no longer in Fuchsia City, and the Super Rod cant be found in the house on Route 12. For whatever reason, Game Freak decided to remove the fishing mechanic from Pokemon Lets Go, so you cant get a fishing rod in the game.

Finally, the last upgrade can only be unlocked after beating the Elite 4. Yes, you read that right those looking to score big catches are going to have to wait until the post-game.
The final NPC can be found in the Fight Area, which is located northeast of the map. Once you arrive at the small area, the fisherman is found outside the north tunnel.
After getting the Super Rod, you will finally be able to reel in mon such as Gyrados and Seaking.

How Do You Ride Lapras In Pokemon Lets Go
Once you are there, make your way to the Pokemon Go park. Here, you will find a Lapras and a man beside it. Simply talk to the man near the Lapras and he will teach you the Sea Skim move. Once you have learned the move, you will be able to ride on water just like you were able to with Surf.
How To Get Sea Skim
In order to get Sea Skim, you need to learn the technique from a guy in Fuchsia City. Head on over to the city that can be found towards the bottom center of the map. Once you are in there, you need to look for a place known as the Go Park Complex.
Find the place and head to the park. Once you are there, you will need to find a Lapras that is swimming in one of the various pools of that area. When you find Lapras, speak to the guy standing near it who has a white shirt and black pants.
Simply talk to the guy in order to learn this move. He will tell you a little story about himself and will teach your main Pokemon the Sea Skim Secret Technique after you are done talking. Now, you will be able to use that specific Pokemon to traverse the waters in the game.
When you are using Sea Skim in the water, random Pokemon will spawn around you and you will have the chance to capture them just like you were on grass. This is a replacement for the fishing rod which was used to catch Pokemon in pools and rivers previously.
