How To Get Ditto in Pokemon Sword and Shield
  • Pokemon beyond your catch level cannot be shinyIf you stumble upon a Pokemon in the Wild Area that is too high a level for you to catch because you haven’t become Champion of Galar yet, don’t worry! It’s impossible for these pocket monsters to be shiny, so you won’t run into one and have no choice but to flee.
  • Dynamaxed Pokemon in Max Raid Battles can be shinyIf you’re partaking in some raids in the Wild Area, the raid boss does have a chance of being shiny and the shiny effects will be visible on the enemy model as you’re battling it.
  • Unlike Pokemon Let’s Go, you cannot see if a Pokemon is shiny on the overworldPokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee introduced a truly wonderful feature that allowed you to see whether a Pokemon was shiny before you ran into it on the overworld. Unfortunately, Game Freak has done away with this mechanic in Sword and Shield, so you actually have to enter the battle with the Pokemon before you can see if it’s shiny or not.
  • Starters are shiny lockedIn previous games, you could soft reset the game right at the start to re-roll the shiny encounter for each of the three Pokemon Sword and Shield starters. In Sword and Shield, this is impossible. The only way to get a shiny starter is via breeding.
  • That’s all there is to it when it comes to shiny hunting in Pokemon Sword and Shield! Complete the Pokedex, trade for a Ditto that speaks another language, and you’ll be sorted. It’ll still take a while, mind. Good luck!

Why Do I Need A Foreign Language Ditto

Were guessing that most of you landing on this page will probably know this already, but using a foreign language Ditto can hugely increase your chances of hatching a Shiny Pokémon from an Egg.

In Pokémon Sword and Shield, the chances of catching or hatching a Shiny Pokémon are usually 1 in 4096 so theyre pretty rare. This rate can be improved dramatically with a Shiny Charm you can learn all about that and much more in our full guide to Shiny Pokémon but using a foreign language Pokémon increases these odds further.

    Winning Max Raid Battles

The most important thing to remember about this particular method is that youll want to head to a specific Max Raid Battle den to catch Ditto.

This is located in the Bridge Field section of the Wild Area. From the main path, head between two trees and through a grassy patch until you see the den pictured below.

If youre wanting to take on the Max Raid Battle with friends you can check our detailed guide here.

Whether or not a Ditto spawns here is entirely random. If one doesnt appear youll simply have to defeat the Pokemon and try again until it does.

Can You Put Ditto In A Gym

    Using a Ditto

Taking Ditto to the gym to battle or train is a little different than with other Pokemon. Ditto only has one main move and that is to transform. So, when you put in him in battle, thats exactly what he does. Once your Ditto has transformed, it stays in that form for the entire battle.

    Complete The Sinnoh Dex

Firstly, youll need to complete the Sinnoh Pokédex. Thankfully, this can be done with one copy of the game, and in one playthrough. All you need to do is to see one of every Pokémon, not catch them, and this can all be achieved during the course of the normal game. If youre struggling to see the box legendary of the other copy, Dialga or Palkia, speak to Cynthias grandmother and shell show you it.

After that, head back to Professor Rowan and hell upgrade your Pokédex for you, allowing you to catch almost 500 Pokémon in total, including plenty of new legendaries.

How To Breed Shinies In Pokemon Sword And Shield

Where to catch Ditto in Pokemon Sword and Shield (2 methods!)

If you’re new to shiny hunting, you’ll want to read up on the Masuda method of breeding shinies. Named after Game Freak director Junichi Masuda who implemented this method into the games from Generation IV onwards, understanding the core concept behind this is crucial if you want to increase your chance of getting shinies while breeding.

Essentially, the Masuda method is applicable when breeding two Pokemon from different language versions of the game. Any egg produced by two Pokemon originating from different languages in-game will have a higher chance of being shiny 1/683 without the Shiny Charm, and 1/512 with it.

How do you get Pokemon of different languages? Trading, of course! As long as one of the Pokemon you’re breeding came from a version of the game with a different language to the one you’re playing on, the Masuda method will be in effect. Note that you can’t use two Pokemon of the same language, even if that language is different to the one you’re playing on.

In order to make the Masuda method most effective, the best option is to catch a Ditto in your language, then trade it for a Ditto caught in another language. Since Ditto can breed with almost every Pokemon and is the main way of breeding for eggs, once you’ve got a Ditto in a different language, you don’t have to worry about anything else. Breed the Pokemon you’ve caught with it and voila, your chances of finding a shiny through breeding will be vastly improved.

At the time I took this screenshot, I had fought Wooloo 616 times.

Another way to increase your chances is by having battled a Pokémon several times during your game. You can check to see how many times you’ve fought a specific Pokémon by checking your Pokédex. Your chances of finding a shiny increase incrementally when you’ve fought the same Pokémon 1, 20, 50, 100, 200, 300, or 500 times total. That means that the best way to increase your chances is by having fought the same Pokémon 500 times during your game. That’s definitely a lot, but for the serious shiny hunter, it’s worth it. If you’ve gotten to the end of the game, you might have gotten close to that number. Otherwise, it will take a lot of work to battle a Pokémon that much.

Fun fact, I’ve been shiny hunting for Wooloo for over 17 hours. In that time, I’ve fought well over 1,000 of them. However, the Pokédex stops counting once you’ve fought 999 of the same Pokémon.

    Catching A Brilliant Aura Ditto

Youll recognize a brilliant aura Ditto it by its glowing appearance. As we explained our how to get Ditto guide, head to the Lake of Outrage area in Sword & Shield for the best chance of catching one, though whether or not one spawns is entirely random.

Your best bet is to go to The Lake of Outrage and defeat all non-aura Dittos, then explore the area and hope a brilliant aura version appears. There is a sentiment among some trainers that the more Pokemon you have caught the more likely you are to come by one.

Sword And Shield: Shiny Pokmon Vs Super Shiny Pokmon

Two different types of shiny Pokémon appear in Sword and Shield. One of them is much rarer than the other and has been dubbed “super shiny” by the internet. Regular shiny Pokémon pop out with stars glittering around them, whereas super shiny Pokémon appear with squares, as seen in the picture above.

Shiny Pokémon rarity has been split! Same 1:4096 odds to obtain a shiny, but there are two types of shiny. 15/16 show stars, 1/16 show squares. Square rarity is 1 in 65536!Basically, if your Trainer ID cleanly matches the PID , it will be squares rather than stars.

    Kurt

Data miners have dived into Sword and Shield’s coding to determine what the shiny odds are. According to respected data miner Kurt, the odds of catching shinies are still 1/4096. However, 15/16 shiny Pokémon will show stars, whereas only 1/16 shiny Pokémon will show squares. That makes super shinies super rare to come across with only a chance of 1/65536!

New 5 Star Ditto Den In Pokemon Sword & Shield

Its located on Ditto Island, a special new island introduced in the Isle of Armor DLC that is home to a lot of overworld Ditto spawns. It is also home to two different Pokemon dens. One of which is the new method to farming Ditto for high IV breeding.

I discovered the island during the cloudy weather effect, but have tried it on other weather effects and it seems much the same. In 10 different attempts, I was able to encounter a Ditto on each attempt. It may not be a complete guarantee, but it is near enough 100%. I will continue tests. About 70% of the Ditto I found were 5 star, although not all were the yellow rarity stamp.

I have yet to try the other den but this den has worked perfectly so far.

    Putting Ditto To Work

Dittos most common usage in recent Pokemon games is tied to the Breeding system, which allows players to combine Pokemon to create new eggs. As a transforming Pokemon, Ditto can be massively useful as it allows players to breed any Pokemon that is capable of doing so.

As most players wont start Breeding until theyve reached the late-game, Ditto is ideally placed to be caught just when the system starts to become relevant. Even though this makes Ditto one of the most useful Pokemon in the game, no-one can do everything, and as such there is no sign of a Gigantamax Ditto on the horizon.

Pokemon Sword and Shield is out now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

What Are Square Shinies In Pokemon Sword And Shield

so apparently my Elephant is a rare square shiny or smth #PokemonSwordShield #NintendoSwitch pic.twitter.com/5uvgdb8u9y

You may have heard whispers of the elusive square shinies in Pokemon Sword and Shield, so let us shed some light on the situation. In an effort to add even more longevity to Galar by Game Freak, you can now find two types of shiny Pokemon standard and square. Standard shinies are the shiny Pokemon everyone knows and loves from previous games, while square shinies are brand new.

On paper, for every shiny encounter in the game, it has a 1/16 chance of being a square shiny instead of the standard. Youll be able to tell whether its standard or square by the intro animation the usual stars will be replaced by square outlines, but the difference in colour palette is still the same. Dont worry, square shinies arent a different shade!

Its not quite as simple as that however. If you follow the chaining method explained above by catching or defeating 25 of the same Pokemon in a row, those 1/16 odds will be flipped. Instead, youll have 15/16 odds of finding a square shiny, and just 1/16 of the shiny being standard.

    Getting The Shiny Charm

If you’re adamant about getting shiny Pokémon, then you’ll want to get the Shiny Charm. This is a reward you receive for completing the Galar region Pokédex. To do that, you’ll need to trade Pokémon with friends or people online to get the version exclusive Pokémon not found in your game.

Once you have all 400 Pokémon, travel to Circhester and go to the first hotel you see in the city. You’ll need to take the elevator to the top floor and then head to the room that’s farthest on the left of the building. Enter the room and talk to the doctor in the back. He’ll give you the Shiny Charm, which will increase your chances of coming upon a shiny Pokémon to 1/1365.33. When combined with all of the other catching methods, your odds go up to 1/458.

If you’re close to getting the Shiny Charm before playing through the Isle of Armor or Crown Tundra DLC, it’s probably worth finishing up your Pokédex quickly. You’ll run into plenty of wild Pokémon during the DLC, and as you explore the new areas, so it’s a great time to run into an accidental shiny. Having a Shiny Charm will make your chances even better.

Pokmon Bdsp: How To Find Ditto

Ditto is the ultimate Pokémon to use for breeding in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, as it can breed with almost any Pokémon in the game.

Ditto is the ultimate Pokémon to use for breeding in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, as it can breed with almost any Pokémon in the game. Ditto is a Pokémon that was part of the original 151 Pokémon featured in the release of the Red and Green versions, and since that time it has become a staple for all trainers. In addition to being able to breed with almost any Pokémon, Ditto is so unique that it has its own egg group.

One of the reasons why Ditto is so interesting to use in battle is because it knows the move Transform. Transform allows Ditto to copy the looks and moves of its opponent, but it only has five uses of each move that its opponent knows. Additionally, Ditto copies all stat changes and the EVs of the opponent, except for the opponent’s HP EVs. With an Ability Patch in Pokémon BDSP, Ditto can unlock its Hidden Ability, Imposter. Imposter eliminates Ditto’s need to use Transform as a turn in battle by transforming Ditto into its opponent as soon as it enters the battle. Imposter allows Ditto to mimic its opponent from the start of the battle, making a Ditto with a Hidden Ability even harder to counter.
