Mud Shot + Rock Slide And Iron Head Or Drill Run
Mud Shot is generally preferred over Mud Slap due to superior energy generation the latter is more preferable for niche situations that specifically favor Ground-type coverage. Metal Claw is an underwhelming move for PvP, and Steel-type coverage is typically not as valuable.
Rock Slide ties for the least amount of energy, and provides wide coverage. Drill Run is an efficient move that is recommended over Earthquake due to significantly less energy costs. Iron Head is typically not used due to other charge moves being more valuable.
Pokemon Go: Best Poison
Poison is a bit of a strange case. In the main series, it makes its paycheck with the use of the poisoned status condition and other stat- and condition-affecting trickery. But, since that stuff doesn’t really exist in Pokemon GO, Poison is reduced to the same strategy as every other type: don’t go up against your weakness, and maximize your damage output. Unfortunately, Poison has never been great at sheer damage output, so that didn’t translate to it being one of the better types in GO. With that said, it can be useful against Grass- and Fairy-types, when necessary.
The actual best Poison-type is without question Mega Gengar, but since it lacks a Poison-type fast move, we’re going to exclude it here. But, even with another type fast move, it’ll outpace the rest of the best Poison-type attackers. Mega Venusaur suffers the same problem. It’s probably the second-place contestant against Mega Gengar, and even beats it in TDO, but it has no Poison-type fast move.
As for the best Pokemon with two Poison-type moves, your best bet is Mega Beedrill with Poison Jab + Sludge Bomb. Against Grass-types, though, its fast Bug-type move, Bug Bite, will do a bit better than Poison Jab. As of now, Mega Beedrill remains a fantastic Poison-type attacker but goes down quickly, so try to hit hard with its massive max Attack before it’s taken down. As we mentioned in the Bug-type section, it’s also fantastic how cheap it is to evolve a Weedle up to Beedrill, for what that’s worth.
Pokemon Go: Best Ghost
Ghost-types are often phenomenal, especially in matchups against Psychic-types. Given the high number of Psychic-type Legendaries, this comes in handy often. Shadow Ball is also one of the best moves in the game, so the fact that Ghost-types get STAB from it is very appealing.
Currently the only Ghost-type Mega Evolution in the game, Mega Gengar soars above the rest of the spooky crew. Its massive max Attack stat of 349 and access to fantastic moves make it one of the best Pokemon in the entire game, regardless of type. Lick and Shadow Claw are mostly interchangeable, but either one should be paired with Shadow Ball. Mega Gengar is so strong that it actually ranks as one of the best Dark-type attackers, too. It’ll be joined eventually by Mega Sableye and Mega Banette, but neither should pose much of a threat to M-Gengar’s top spot.
Chandelure, the Ghost/Fire-type from Gen V, was a fantastic Ghost-type then, and it is in Pokemon GO, too. It ranks high for both DPS and TDO, and its type combination is both useful and interesting. It makes for one of the best Ghost-type attackers, as well as one of the best Fire-type attackers, giving it some use for either function. Fore pure damage-per-second, it ranks third, and for total damage output, fifth. Plus, the fact that it doesn’t need to be Shadow or Mega Evolved is very, very nice.

Pokmon Go: Best Movesets August 2021
While it may seem like Combat Power or stats are the most important factors in Pokémon Go, movesets play a critical role as well. Movesets are the combination of the fast attack and charged attack your Pokémon uses in battles.
The wonderful, terrible thing about movesets is that they’re usually determined at random. The good news is that, with Technical Machines and Elite TMs, you change your old, terrible moves. But how do you know which movesets will help your Pokémon win at PvP Trainer Battles and decimate Gyms and Raids and which will make a fight simply unwinnable? Here’s the newly updated list! Breaking The Mold With Excadrill: A Meta Analysis
The Unova region is often the most debated of all generations, with many trainers applauding Gen 5s remarkable plot, characters and Pokémon and others hating on Unova being a Kanto rip-off, with many Pokémon taking direct inspiration from Gen 1s Pokémon.
However, there are a good number of Pokémon from this region that have cemented themselves as fan favourites due to their design, competitive usage and flavour. To probe deeper, there are a select number of elite Pokémon that check out on all these parameters and their usage extends to Pokémon Go as well.
One of these elite Pokémon is Excadrill.
Since its introduction, Excadrill has consistently been a threat in battle. With an amazing typing combo of Ground and Steel, Excadrill has everything going for it.
In Pokémon Go, Excadrill has always been good. In fact, it beats out the mighty Groudon in DPS! All Excadrill lacked was full-on viability in PvP.
However, with the inclusion of Mud Shot into Excadrills already amazing arsenal of moves after the moveset update of January 2021, Excadrill breaks into the PvP meta as well!
It is only fitting that we understand just how better Excadrill is now.
Spoiler alert: Its amazing!
But lets look into exactly how the drill is with Excadrill!

Using The Pokemon Rankings
In the top-level rankings, you’ll see a score for each Pokemon. This score is an overall performance number from 0 to 100, where 100 is the best Pokemon in that league and category. It is derived from simulating every possible matchup, with each Pokemon’s most used moveset . Use this score to compare overall performance between Pokemon for example, the difference between the #1 and #50 Pokemon may not be the same as the difference between the #50 and #100 Pokemon. This score also allows you to see the parity in different leagues and categories.
Trainer Battles feature a wide variety of scenarios, especially involving shields. In order to give a fuller picture, our overall rankings are derived from additional sets of rankings, where battles are simulated with different roles in mind. You can explore rankings for each of the following categories:
Different Pokemon may succeed in different scenarios, so use these categories to help determine when a particular Pokemon would be the most valuable.
Within each ranking, you’ll see four separate detail sections:
- Fast Moves – Which Fast Moves the Pokemon uses most in the league and category.
- Charged Moves – Which Charged Moves the Pokemon uses most in the league and category.
- Key Wins – Which battles the Pokemon performs best in, weighed by the opponent’s overall score.
- Key Counters – Which significant opponents perform best against the Pokemon.
Pokemon Go: Best Rock
Rock is home to some Pokemon that hit hard, making them great as generalists, as well as uber-powerful against the handful of Flying-type Legendaries with a weakness to Rock, like Moltres, Articuno, Zapdos, Lugia, Ho-oh, Yveltal, the Forces of Nature, and more. At lower tiers, they’ll also do a great job against Mega Raids like both Mega Charizard forms, and against common gym defenders like Dragonite and Salamence.
Once considered the greatest Rock-type attacker, Tyranitar lost its Rock-type throne to Rampardos in the same way it lost its Dark-type throne to Mega Houndoom and some others. But, its Shadow form places it back on top, so long as it has Smack Down, which can be a harsh barrier, given its exclusivity. You’ll also want to watch out for those all-too-common Fighting-types, which have plagued Tyranitar as a double weakness since its introduction in Gen II of the main series. The addition of Fairy-types hasn’t helped, either.
For a more obtainable attacker that doesn’t need some Elite TMs to be a viable Rock-type attacker, look to the Gen IV Fossil Pokemon, Rampardos. This hard-hitting dinosaur is what knocked Tyranitar off its throne, easily ranking #1 in DPS, even ahead of Shadow Tyranitar and Legendary Terrakion. However, Rampardos plummets down the list in terms of TDO, sitting behind even Pokemon that aren’t mentioned in this section. It’ll hit really hard, but only a few times before going down to one of Rock’s many weaknesses.

What Moves Should This Ground / Steel Pokemon Use
Excadrill has three interesting fast-moving abilities: Metal Claw, Mud Shot and Mud Slap. Statistically, it may seem that Metal Claw would be the best of these, as it has a decent energy gain as well as output damage.
Excadrill, however, does not benefit from steel-type coverage as ground coverage. From a Raid perspective, Excadrillos steel charging move is Iron Head, which does a meager 60 damages by taking away half the energy. Because it does so little damage, it is better for coaches to use Dialga and Metagross as steel-type strikers.
In that case, Mud Slap may seem to be the best option. This is true for Excadrills who want to complete in-game content or defeat Raid bosses. The mudguard has incredible output damage, doing 18 damage each time it is used.
However, if used for PvP, Mud Shot is actually a move they will want to run. This is simply because his energy gain is greater than the other two moves. In GO Battle League, charging energy is sometimes valued more than just damage with quick moves.
Pokemon Go: Best Steel
Steel is definitely more of a defensive type, but it’ll pack a punch on offense from time to time, too. This is especially true if you use the right Pokemon. Steel is great against Fairy-, Rock-, and Ice-types, which makes them great as a partner to Dragons and especially dual Dragon/Flying-types . With ten resistances and a double resistance, it’s also hard to get some good moves off against them. If you’re using Steel-types, watch out for the all-too-common Ground, Fighting, and Fire moves, though, as they hit hard and serve as Steel’s three weaknesses.
Ask any veteran player what the best Steel-type is, and they probably won’t even miss a beat before saying Metagross more specifically, Shadow Metagross. This pseudo-Legendary is immensely powerful, with DPS around 22.4 and TDO of a massive 1,106.63, Shadow Metagross measures up to the likes of Mewtwo, Rayquaza, and the other top Pokemon in the game. It’s fairly future-proof, too, with the only real threats to its metal throne being Kartana , Zacian , and its own Mega Evolution. The one real downside to Shadow Metagross is that it reaches these massive numbers with Meteor Mash, which is a Community Day move. One thing to note is that it can counter Fighting, one of its only weaknesses, with a second charge move: Psychic. Or, if you don’t have access to Meteor Mash, just go for Psychic for a decent ranking still.

Pokemon Go: The Best Dragonite
Dragon-types are widely considered the best and most viable Pokemon, generally speaking. Of course, the only type theyre good against is other Dragon-types, but with the sheer number of Dragon-type Legendaries, thats more than enough for them to be useful. Dragon-types are typically considered great generalists, having use against a wide variety of matchups since they arent resisted by much, and the strongest dragons have high DPS and Attack stats.
The top spot amongst Dragon-types is changing all of the time, in part because new Dragon-type Legendaries are introduced all the time, but also because they frequently receive new moves, Shadow forms, and Mega Evolutions. Currently, the top spot in many respects belongs to Shadow Dragonite, though Shadow Salamence isnt far behind it. With a massive Attack stat and decent bulk, Shadow Dnite can achieve DPS and TDO stats of 22.87 and 1,081.28, respectively. Itll hit hard and stay standing for a long time.

Stalobor In Pokmon Go

What Moves Should This Ground/steel
Excadrill has three interesting skills to choose from for a quick move: Metal Claw, Mud Shot, and Mud Slap. Statistically, it looks like Metal Claw would be the best as it has a decent energy gain as well as damage output.
However, Excadrill does not benefit from the steel type coverage as much as the soil type coverage. From a Raids perspective, Excadrills Steel-type attack move is Iron Head, which deals a stingy 60 damage from taking half the beam of energy. Because this deals so little damage, trainers can better use Dialga and Metagross as Steel-type attackers.
If so, it might seem like Mud Slap is the best option. This applies to Excadrills looking to complete in-game content or defeat Raid bosses. Mud Slap has an amazing damage output and does 18 damage when used.
However, when used for PvP, Mud Shot is actually the move it aims to perform. This is simply because the energy gain is higher than the other two moves. In GO Battle League, energy charging is sometimes valued more than simple damage from quick moves.

What About Secondary Charge Moves In Pokmon Go
With PvP Trainer Battles, Niantic also introduced secondary Charge Moves. You can buy them with Stardust and Candy, and TM them to whatever it is you need. So, what do you need? Typically, variety. If the best Charge Move is a full bar, get a secondary that’s multi-bar. If there are two possible types for the Charged move, get both. For example, a Mewtwo with Shadow Ball or Psystrike is incredible, but one with both? Gamebreaker! However, adding a second Charge Move is expensive so make sure there is a good secondary move before spending on this upgrade.
A Physical Sweeper That Takes Advantage Of Sand Rush
Excadrill can double its Speed with Sand Rush and fight during a Sandstorm. Even when facing opponents that have boosted their Speed, it is still possible to outspeed them during a Sandstorm thanks to Sand Rush.
Additionally, it will be easier to maneuver Excadrill when a Sandstorm has already been setup before it is switched-out. Team it up Hippowdon or Tyranitar.
