Pokemon Go How To Catch Legendaries

Can Legendary Pokemon Be Found Outside Of Tier 5 Raids

Pokemon GO HOW TO CATCH LEGENDARY POKEMON!!

Normally, trainers cannot find legendary Pokemon by searching the wild. They can only be battled and caught through Tier 5 raids.

There has been, however, one exception.

Early in 2020, the lake spirits from Generation IV were released into the wild. The lake spirits are Azelf, Uxie and Mespirit, a trio of Psychic-type Pokemon found at the three lakes in the Sinnoh region .

While these legendary Pokemon were released to the wild, they still arent easy to find. They are considered to be extremely rare encounters.

On top of that, they were all region locked. Only Azelf can be found in the Americas Uxie is located in Eastern Asia, and Mespirit was released in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Outside of the lake spirits, all other legendary Pokemon can only be caught through Tier 5 raids. This likely takes inspiration from the main series games, where legendary Pokemon couldnt be caught in the wild either.

All legendary Pokemon in the games fall under two categories: static or roaming. Static encounters have one specified area where the trainer can attempt to battle and catch the legendary Pokemon there.

Roaming legendaries are, instead, found at different points on the map. Trainers have to search the wild in the hopes of finding these Pokemon. There are ways, though, to help narrow down which wild areas these roaming legendaries will be in.

How To Catch Legendary Pokemon In Pokemon Go

Legendary Pokemon are the hardest Pokemon to catch in Pokemon Go. With a base catch rate of only 2 to 3% and a limited stash of Premier Balls, trying to catch one of these Pokemon can be a frustrating experience.

And here’s the thing: there is no hidden trick to catching Legendary Pokemon. You can’t hold down on the B button until the second shake of a PokeBall or pull out a Master Ball to make catching Lugia or Moltres any easier. Catching a Legendary Pokemon largely comes down to a combination of luck and a little bit of skill.

However, we can offer you some advice if you’re continuously struggling to catch a Legendary Pokemon. None of the information we’re going to share is “new” advice, but sometimes it helps to read things you already knew about or might have forgotten:

Special Research Legendary Pokemon: Mew Celebi Jirachi And Meltan

Mew was the first legendary Pokemon available via special research, in a quest line called “A Mythical Discovery”. This is the only way to obtain Mew, and you can read more on that with our how to catch Mew and Mewtwo in Pokemon Go guide.

Celebi is also now available through the “A Ripple In Time” special research quest. Just like Mew, you need to do a series of potentially lengthy tasks, which we’ve covered in detail here: how to catch Celebi in Pokemon Go.

You can get Jirachi too if you complete the special research called Pokemon Go A Thousand Year Slumber. First introduced during Pokemon Go Fest 2019, we’ve got a guide on how to complete all of the tasks.

Technically, Meltan and its evolution Melmetal are mythical Pokemon instead of legendaries, but for the purposes of this guide, they count as legendaries. We’ve covered how to catch Meltan in Pokemon Goand Pokemon Let’s Go but the basic gist of things is that you either need to transfer a Pokemon from the former to the latter, to receive Meltan in the former, or complete the special research called “Let’s GO, Meltan.

If you participated in the Pokemon Go A Drive To Investigate special research, this is how you can obtain Genesect. Unfortunately, the ticket isn’t available any longer, but you can still complete the objectives if you acquired it before.

How Do I Get Invited To A Legendary Pokemon Raid

The new trailer did make clear that Legendary Raids wont be for all players. Certain players will be invited to attend Legendary Raids via a Legendary Raid Pass thats distributed automatically.

However, we still dont know what sort of criteria is involved in choosing who gets a Legendary Raid Pass. An article about Legendary Raids sent a month ago implied that players would be chosen based on how active they were in the game, but even thats pretty vague.

Will players be chosen based on their proximity to the site of the Legendary Raid? How far will players be expected to travel for the chance at a Legendary Pokemon? Will Raids be distributed based on a players Level, how many Pokemon they have in gyms, or some other criteria?

We wont start getting answers to this question until July 23, when the first Legendary Raid Boss appears in the wild.

  • Evolve an evolved Grass type Pokemon
  • Catch a Pokemon 3 days in a row

Rewards 1 Sun Stone, 1500 stardust, 1 Premium Raid Pass

In terms of making new friends, Pokemon Go always wants you to get out into the world and meet people. If you arent already part of a local Facebook or Discord group, hunt one down, or you could always guarantee a new set of friends by putting your friend code on Twitter with a #PokemonGo hashtag and hunting for people who have done the same.

The second task here, evolving an evolved Grass type Pokemon, might be trickier dependent on how much Grass type candy you are storing. This Grass Pokemon already needs to be on the 2nd of its evolutions before you hit evolve again ie: Ivysaur to Venusaur or Skiploom to Vileplume. You do not need to have been the one to do the first evolution ie you could catch or trade a wild Skiploom and it will work but you do need to have the inevitably 100 candy to do the evolution. If you dont have it to hand, its time to buddy up and get walking.

Four: Take Down The Boss

When the countdown reaches zero, youll enter into a battle with your first Pokémon. The battle interface is just like a gym battle, with fast and strong attacks and swiping to dodge. But instead of a one-on-one fight with a trainers Pokémon, all of the people in your team will attack simultaneously, whittling down the bosss hit points until it reaches zero. This is why its so important to have a large group: the boss can only attack one Pokémon/trainer combo at a time, while everyone can attack it during the entire battle.

You can swap out and heal Pokémon if necessary, but keep an eye on the timer: if the boss still has hit points when it reaches zero, the entire group loses the fight. If you do manage to beat the raid boss, youll be showered with experience and rare items like Rare Candies and Golden Razz Berries. Youll also receive a number of Premier PokéBalls: the better you, your local team, and game team do, the more Premier Balls youll receive.

Catching Legendary Birds In The Wild

While your first and perhaps only encounter with each of the four legendary Pokémon has to happen in their set locations, it is possible to see the legendary birds in the wild and score two or more of the same legendary bird. This possibility is something you would never see in Pokémon Yellow.

For a chance to see one of the legendary birds in the wild, you need to be riding on a flying Pokémon like Charizard. You also have to have a high catch chain going, so you must catch a lot of Pokémon in a row. A lure, which attracts rare Pokémon, must be active. No matter how many requirements you meet, you still might not ever see a legendary bird in the wild. They have certainly eluded us during the duration of our Lets Go gameplay, but dont let that deter your perseverance.

Four: Catch The Legendary Pokmon

Heres what its all come down to: can you catch a legendary Pokémon? Immediately after the raid boss is defeated, youll be given a chance to catch a randomized version of that Pokémon in the standard Pokémon Go ball-throwing interface. The Pokémon wont be able to run away from you, but you can only use the Premier balls you received from the raid boss to catch it! That means youll be extremely limited in your number of throws, since this is a high-level Pokémon with major evasive powers and a smaller area to throw at.

Its possibleperhaps even likelythat you wont catch a legendary Pokémon on your first raid boss victory. Be patient, wait for an ideal shot, and use any berries you have available with every throw. Good luck!

The Legendary Titans Regirock Regice And Registeel

Arguably the most underwhelming pick of this top section is the trio of Regirock, Regice and Registeel.

The Legendary Titans have racked up almost as many appearances at the Legendary Birds so are hardly the most glamorous Pokemon. However, its their versatility that makes them so valuable.

All three of the above Pokemon can hold their own across every single PVP league in the game and theyre the only Legendary Pokemon that can accomplish this feat.

One: Find A Raid Pass

You cant just walk up to a raid boss and pile inyoull need a Raid Pass. These tokens are granted once a day by walking within range of a Pokémon Gym and spinning the circle, just like on a PokéStop. You can only get one Raid Pass per day, no matter how many gyms you go to, and you cant hold on to more than one at a timethat means free players are limited to one raid boss battle per day, and theyll have to spin the circle at a gym before going to a new raid battle the next day.

Theres an alternative if you want to attack multiple raid bosses in a single day: the Premium Raid Pass. This is an item bought in the Shop for 100 coins, and you can buy as many as you can afford in a day. But just like the regular Raid Pass, youre limited to only a single Premium Raid Pass at a time. And of course, buying them with coins will quickly drain your supply, unless you have Pokémon at multiple gyms or you top it up with real money.

What To Do If You Cant Travel

We are aware that a lot of Pokemon Go players arent as mobile as the game permits. This doesnt mean that you have to do without a great selection of the Pokedex. Fortunately, the creators appear to think so too.

Although were talking mainly about the younger trainers here, these tips can by used by anyone. Some of the best places weve found Pokemon are churches, restaurants, and shopping centers. These are places that most any trainer will visit at least once a week.

Lets assume you dont have a car yet. This pretty much means you cant drive off to new and exciting places whenever you need to. Youre basically at the mercy of someone else to take you hunting for Pokemon. When you dont have that option, take the time to care for your current Pokemon and level them up as much as possible.

When you are riding in the car try to spin every Poke Stop you see, youll often get the supplies youll need when its game time. Pokemon Go can still be fun and exciting to play if you dont have complete control over your travels, but it does take a little more preparation and planning to succeed.

How To Catch Legendaries And How To Unlock Legendary Raids In Pokmon Go

Ninatic finally unlocked Legendary Pokémon in Pokémon Go following Pokémon Go Fest. Summer 2017 saw Legendary birds Moltres, Articuno and Moltres come and go, with Legendary beasts Raikou, Entei, Suicune here for Autumn – and the start of a Gen 3 Legendary rollout over the winter, starting with Groudon.

Though they are similar to standard Raid Battles in many ways, there are several differences in both their appearance and capture:

    • Legendaries are only be available via Legendary Raids, the highest difficulty of Raid Battle – although they’re now beginning to reappear as Research Breakthrough Rewards for completing Field Research Quests, too.
    • While regular Raids appear at random, Legendary Raids appear for set periods of time. For example, in Autumn 2017, the Legendary beasts Raikou, Entei and Suicune rotated between regions each month. Before that, Legendary Birds debuted for one week at a time over summer 2017. You can read the current active Legendaries later in the article.
    • EX Raid Battles see certain elusive Legendaries, such as Mewtwo, require an EX Raid Pass invite before you can participate. To get an invite, you must beat a Raid Boss at that Gym before the EX Raid appears, as well as several other requirements discussed in our Raids article.
