How To Shiny Chain In Pokemon Sword And Shield

How To Get Any Shiny Locked Pokemon In Pokemon Sword/Shield Without A Hacked Switch!

So while encountering 500 of the same Pokemon will increase the odds of you finding a shiny, that isn’t the same as shiny chaining. If you encounter and then defeat or catch up to 25 of the same Pokemon species in a row, the odds of finding a shiny are increased even further. If you stumble into one that isn’t the same species, make sure you run away and don’t catch it or let it faint, because your chain will be reset.

Once you hit a chain of 25, that’s the maximum you can shiny chain in Sword and Shield. Combine all three methods and your odds of encountering a shiny will increase drastically, from the base 1/4096 to 1/455.

Getting The Shiny Charm

If you’re adamant about getting shiny Pokémon, then you’ll want to get the Shiny Charm. This is a reward you receive for completing the Galar region Pokédex. To do that, you’ll need to trade Pokémon with friends or people online to get the version exclusive Pokémon not found in your game.

Once you have all 400 Pokémon, travel to Circhester and go to the first hotel you see in the city. You’ll need to take the elevator to the top floor and then head to the room that’s farthest on the left of the building. Enter the room and talk to the doctor in the back. He’ll give you the Shiny Charm, which will increase your chances of coming upon a shiny Pokémon to 1/1365.33. When combined with all of the other catching methods, your odds go up to 1/458.

If you’re close to getting the Shiny Charm before playing through the Isle of Armor or Crown Tundra DLC, it’s probably worth finishing up your Pokédex quickly. You’ll run into plenty of wild Pokémon during the DLC, and as you explore the new areas, so it’s a great time to run into an accidental shiny. Having a Shiny Charm will make your chances even better.

Shiny Locked Legendary Pokmon Calyrex

With these new additions to the list of Pokémon that are shiny locked in the Galar region, the total comes to a steep 37 different Pokémon that cannot be shiny hunted. Many of these are gifts from the Isle of Armor Diglett adventure, where the player must help locate a slew of missing Diglett. The list also includes every Legendary that is specific to Sword and Shield’s region, both in the main story and through the expansions. While players might have an opportunity to get these Pokémon as shiny through future game code events, it appears that the shiny locking Legendaries will remain in place for this and any potential future DLC for Sword and Shield.

For players hoping to find a shiny Calyrex for a personal Pokémon collection, the shiny lock on the Crown Tundra DLC might make for a long wait. However, thanks to the Dynamax Adventures and the 210 Pokémon added to Sword and Shield, there are plenty of returning Pokémon in the Crown Tundra’s new wild area to hunt and catch as a shiny. Pokémon Sword and Shield‘s shiny lock can be frustrating for fans who enjoy the thrill of catching a game’s signature Legendary Pokémon, however, having a chance to hunt down a shiny Suicune deep in the Pokémon dens will keep fans plenty busy while waiting for an event or update on shinies for the Galar region’s new Legendray Pokémon.

Eternatus Zacian & Zamazenta

While these three legendary Pokémon are obtained in very separate areas, they’re are worth putting together for their identical shiny-locks. These are part of an extremely common trend in the past several Pokémon games, in that most legendaries are very rarely shiny unless theyre a part of an event, such as the games regular Mystery Gifts.

Since they cant breed, this also means that theres currently no way to obtain a shiny version of Eternatus, Zacian, or Zamazenta. Some players have found shiny versions in the games code, meaning they could potentially appear in the future, but its currently impossible to get them in alternate colors through any official methods.

  • Pokemon beyond your catch level cannot be shinyIf you stumble upon a Pokemon in the Wild Area that is too high a level for you to catch because you haven’t become Champion of Galar yet, don’t worry! It’s impossible for these pocket monsters to be shiny, so you won’t run into one and have no choice but to flee.
  • Dynamaxed Pokemon in Max Raid Battles can be shinyIf you’re partaking in some raids in the Wild Area, the raid boss does have a chance of being shiny and the shiny effects will be visible on the enemy model as you’re battling it.
  • Unlike Pokemon Let’s Go, you cannot see if a Pokemon is shiny on the overworldPokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee introduced a truly wonderful feature that allowed you to see whether a Pokemon was shiny before you ran into it on the overworld. Unfortunately, Game Freak has done away with this mechanic in Sword and Shield, so you actually have to enter the battle with the Pokemon before you can see if it’s shiny or not.
  • Starters are shiny lockedIn previous games, you could soft reset the game right at the start to re-roll the shiny encounter for each of the three Pokemon Sword and Shield starters. In Sword and Shield, this is impossible. The only way to get a shiny starter is via breeding.
  • That’s all there is to it when it comes to shiny hunting in Pokemon Sword and Shield! Complete the Pokedex, trade for a Ditto that speaks another language, and you’ll be sorted. It’ll still take a while, mind. Good luck!

    What You Need To Know

    • Pokémon Sword and Shield are the first games in the eighth generation of mainline titles.
    • The Pokémon Company is distributing shiny versions of the legendary dogs, Zacian and Zamazenta.
    • Distribution for Zacian starts today, while Zamazenta gets distributed starting on November 12, 2021.

Some Pokémon fans really enjoy “shiny hunting”, which is where they manipulate random number generators and play according to specific odds in order to obtain Pokémon with different color schemes. However, most legendaries in recent Pokémon games have been “shiny-locked” this means that it is impossible to legitimately obtain a shiny version of them, as Game Freak specifically wrote the game’s code to bring the shiny odds down to zero.

Fans of shiny Pokémon will be happy to hear that shiny versions of the legendary Pokémon duo that premiered in Pokémon Sword and Shield are being distributed in the United States via a serial code. To get your code, head to a participating GameStop near you, ask for a code, and later redeem it via the Mystery Gift menu in your copy of Pokémon Sword and Shield while connected to the internet. Shiny Zacian is being distributed starting today until November 11, while Shiny Zamazenta heads to GameStop starting on November 12 to November 26, 2021.

Version Exclusive Legendary Pokmon In Crown Tundra

Before getting into the entire group, its important to point out that some are technically version exclusives. There are eight Legendary Pokémon exclusive to Pokémon Sword and eight exclusive to Pokémon Shield.

    • Pokémon Sword Exclusive Legendary Pokémon:Ho-Oh, Latios, Groudon, Dialga, Tornadus, Reshiram, Xerneas, Solgaleo
    • Pokémon Shield Exclusive Legendary Pokémon:Lugia, Latias, Kyogre, Palkia, Thundurus, Zekrom, Yveltal, Lunala

However, that doesnt mean you cant encounter them. If you are looking for a Legendary Pokémon that is exclusive to the other game, you can still encounter if it you play online and join a Max Lair hosted by someone using the opposite game.

Even if you find something that isnt normally available in your game, youll still be given the option to jot down the Pokémons location for a future run, which will then mean you arent at the mercy of someone else happening to host the right Max Lair in the future.

Another way you can find the locations of specific Legendary Pokémon in the Max Lair is by talking to Peonia on the left side of the Max Lair entrance. Shell often offer location information for 5 Dynite Ore, but only for Legendary Pokémon available in your version of the game.

Be sure to check Peonia after every Max Lair you go through. Usually every one or two shell look excited and youll be able to talk to her again to get information about another Legendary Pokémon.

Firstly, catch combos don’t exist in Galar while chaining is still a thing that we’ll get onto shortly, catch combos were first introduced with Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee. You don’t need to worry about catch combos specifically here, because shiny chains in Pokemon Sword and Shield work differently.

Sword And Shield: Shiny Pokmon Vs Super Shiny Pokmon

Two different types of shiny Pokémon appear in Sword and Shield. One of them is much rarer than the other and has been dubbed “super shiny” by the internet. Regular shiny Pokémon pop out with stars glittering around them, whereas super shiny Pokémon appear with squares, as seen in the picture above.

Shiny Pokémon rarity has been split! Same 1:4096 odds to obtain a shiny, but there are two types of shiny. 15/16 show stars, 1/16 show squares. Square rarity is 1 in 65536!Basically, if your Trainer ID cleanly matches the PID , it will be squares rather than stars.

    Kurt

Data miners have dived into Sword and Shield’s coding to determine what the shiny odds are. According to respected data miner Kurt, the odds of catching shinies are still 1/4096. However, 15/16 shiny Pokémon will show stars, whereas only 1/16 shiny Pokémon will show squares. That makes super shinies super rare to come across with only a chance of 1/65536!

    What Does Shiny Lock Mean

Calyrex in The Crown Tundra is shiny locked

When someone refers to a Pokémon being Shiny locked, it means that Pokémon cannot be found in its Shiny form no matter how many times you encounter it. When this is the case, the Shiny version is usually tied to a special event.

A Pokémons Shiny form is the most sought after version, so sometimes these are either held back for certain events or restricted to keep them rare.

    • Glastrier is obtainable from planting the Iceroot Carrot.

These carrots come from planting the Carrot Seeds in either the Snowslide Slope‘s crop plot or the Old Cemetery crop plot. Carrot Seeds can be traded in with an old man in Freezington for 8 pieces of Dynite Ore.

Pokmon Sword And Shield: How To Catch Shiny Pokmon

For those who don’t know already, shiny Pokémon are rare, alternately colored creatures that appear in the Pokémon series. Sometimes shinies are super obvious, like the case of the sheep Pokémon Wooloo whose normal form has white fleece but has a shiny variant with black fleece. However, others are far more subtle, like how a shiny Pikachu only has a slightly different shade of yellow.

Usually, your chances of running into a shiny Pokemon are 1/4096, which makes spotting one unlikely. However, some tricks can increase your chances up to 1/100. Pokémon Sword and Shield also introduced “super shiny” Pokémon that are even rarer. Luckily, you don’t have to stick with those low chances as there are several ways to boost the likelihood of seeing a shiny. Even, for instance, purchasing the Sword and Shield Expansion Pass increases your chances quite a bit. Here’s how to catch shiny Pokémon in Sword and Shield, including those super rare square shinies.

What Are Square Shinies In Pokemon Sword And Shield

so apparently my Elephant is a rare square shiny or smth #PokemonSwordShield #NintendoSwitch pic.twitter.com/5uvgdb8u9y

You may have heard whispers of the elusive square shinies in Pokemon Sword and Shield, so let us shed some light on the situation. In an effort to add even more longevity to Galar by Game Freak, you can now find two types of shiny Pokemon standard and square. Standard shinies are the shiny Pokemon everyone knows and loves from previous games, while square shinies are brand new.

On paper, for every shiny encounter in the game, it has a 1/16 chance of being a square shiny instead of the standard. You’ll be able to tell whether it’s standard or square by the intro animation the usual stars will be replaced by square outlines, but the difference in colour palette is still the same. Don’t worry, square shinies aren’t a different shade!

It’s not quite as simple as that however. If you follow the chaining method explained above by catching or defeating 25 of the same Pokemon in a row, those 1/16 odds will be flipped. Instead, you’ll have 15/16 odds of finding a square shiny, and just 1/16 of the shiny being standard.
