Pokmon Go’s Next Community Day: January Community Day Date And Time Explained

Here’s everything you need to know about January Community Day:

Highlighted Pokémon: Spheal

Time: 11am to 5pm local time

Bonus 1: 3x Catch XP

Bonus 2: Incense activated during the event will last three hours

Bonus 3: Lure Modules activated during the event will last three hours

Exclusive moves for evolution Walrein: Powder Snow , Icicle Spear

How useful is this Community Day?

Coming off the back of the Holidays 2021 event – which saw a costumed Spheal and the introduction of a shiny Spheal – it’s strange to have this highlighted so soon in Community Day.

That said, January is a fitting time for an ice Pokémon – and the introduction of two new moves gives this some real potential in the ice and water typing stakes. How it’ll fit into the meta exactly is unknown – but it’ll be worth trying to catch a strong one and evolving it during the event if you can.

The bonus, of course, is perhaps the other real reason to get involved – with Spheal being an easy creature to get an Excellent throw, and with 3x Catch XP up for grabs, combined with a Lucky Egg there’s the opportunity to gather a lot of XP during the six hour window. Just make sure you wrap up warm and take plenty of breaks!

‘pokemon Go’ January Community Day: Featured Pokemon And Featured Attack

Ticket Journée Communauté de décembre : Etude spéciale et ...

If a Pokemon is featured during a Community Day, it means that it will be more prolific out in the wild and that it can also be taught new moves.

For January 2022, this applies to Spheal, the adorable ice-type creature that was introduced back in the third generation of Pokemon games.

Resembling a cuddly seal, this character was already prominently spotlighted in the recent holiday event. It is vulnerable to electric, grass and rock moves but is significantly boosted by snow and rainy weather conditions.

In terms of development, Spheal can evolve into a Sealo and then a Walrein under the right circumstances. The criteria for the latter is that you have to feed the Pokemon at least 100 pieces of candy.

If you manage to evolve a Sealo into a Walrein during the Community Day event , then it will automatically learn a brand-new featured attack. Specifically, it will be equipped with the charged “Icicle Spear” move which does 60 damage.

There will also be a limited-time research story that you can join during the Community Day. Known as “The Spheal Deal,” this comes with a $1 buy-in cost, meaning that you will have to purchase a ticket in order to take part.

According to the official Pokemon GO blog, more information about this is due to be revealed closer to January 16.

If you’re looking to catch as many Pokemon as possible for PvP and PvE reasons, then Mudkip and Swinub should be your two priorities here. Both Swampert and Mamoswine are beasts when it comes to battling, especially with these exclusive moves. And of course, there’s a higher chance you find a shiny one!

Increased Odds Of Encountering A Shiny Version Of The Featured Pokmon

Image: Niantic / The Pokémon Company

Driving fans mad with anticipation and frustration in equal measure, the featured Pokémon is a lot more likely to be shiny when it spawns during Community Day. In the wider context of the Pokémon series, GO actually presents one of the most time-efficient and least tedious ways of catching Shiny Pokémon. Lucky players can net several shiny versions during the event but theres always the chance that youll come away empty handed.

One key piece of advice for newcomers Shiny Pokémon do not appear Shiny on the Pokémon GO map. You have to tap on them and enter catching mode to see if they are shiny or not.

Pokmon Go Safari Zone

Pokémon GO

On 12 July 2017, Niantic announced “Safari Zone” events across several cities in Europe at shopping centers operated by Unibail-Rodamco, held in August and September 2017. The events, where otherwise region-limited Pokémon could be found among others, required registration and had a player limit for example, the event in Amsterdam was limited to 2,000 players, though unregistered players would still be able to play with increased rewards within the city. However, due to the failure of the 2017 Go Fest event, Niantic delayed some of the Safari Zone events to fall that year.

Later in 2017, another Safari Zone event was held in Tottori Prefecture, Japan, at the Tottori Sand Dunes between 24 and 26 November. According to the local government, 89,000 people attended the event which generated around US$16 million in travel and tourism revenue. In the leadup to the event, Niantic brought several influencers in a tour around Japan as a campaign which was named Pokémon Go Travel.

The Summer 2018 iteration of the Safari Zone announced in conjunction with the 2018 Go Fest as part of a “Summer Tour” involved a Safari Zone event in Dortmund‘s Westfalenpark on 30 June and 1 July, and another event in Yokosuka, Japan on 29 August 2 September. The Dortmund event attracted some 170,000 players across the city, thrice the expected amount, with some players reporting network issues during the 2-day event.
