The Japanese version of the Shining Umbreon Pokemon card is pretty highly desired, with its unique coloring and gorgeous frame-piercing artwork making it fittingly beautiful as one of the first shiny Pokemon to appear on a card.
However, its price is so high because of much more than just its looks and popularity. The Shining Umbreon card only saw a very limited release through the Japanese Pokemon Players’ Club for hitting the maximum number of experience points through attending organised play events between 2005 and 2006, making it one of the rarest cards out there. Rayquaza Gx ~ Celestial Storm
Rayquaza GX is likely one of the most powerful and popular GX cards of all time. Decks featuring the card absolutely dominated the World Championships in 2018, and it still is finding use today in decks that placed highly in the Pokemon Online Global Championships. With many easy ways to put a ton of energy onto the card to unleash devastating attacks and even an ability to draw a massive amount of cards in a tight pinch, Rayquaza GX will likely see use in standard play until it’s no longer legal.

Pokmon Southern Islands Card Collection
This is a really interesting collection of Pokémon cards, to say the least. The folder came with 18 cards which are known as the Rainbow and Tropical Island sets. Released in Japan, it was done more as a film advertising project than a targeted card set. The cards themselves fit together to make a picture and an assembled set can command several hundred dollars when sold.
What’s it worth? A factory-sealed example of the Pokémon Southern Island Collection sold for more than $2000 on eBay as recently as October 2020.
Pokmon Neo Revelation 1st Edition Holo Blissey #2
Another card from the 2001 Neo Revelation set, Blissey is the evolved form of Chansey, which takes the fifth spot on our list.
Despite being released a couple of years after the base set, it still suffers from issues relating to the condition due to the white background and the yellow border.
In terms of design, theyve opted for a more realistic blob, but its still surrounded by silver holofoil which is damaged easily.
There are just 10 gem mint copies as of now, making for one of the rarest commercially available Pokémon cards ever produced.

Pokmon Base Set 1st Edition Shadowless Holo Chansey #3
Another Pokémon who featured heavily in the cartoon, Chansey is a basic holo with a difference. It has a massive 120 HP, while its Double-edge attack hits for 80.
However, the stats arent the reason why gem mint shadowless first edition versions have sold for over $36,000.
As a normal-type Pokémon, the card is wrapped in a white background which contrasts heavily with the yellow border. Chansey is essentially a pink blob, while the holo that surrounds it will flake away instantly.
Its exceedingly condition-sensitive, and there are only 48 copies that have earned gem mint status.

Rayquaza Vmax ~ Evolving Skies
VMAX cards were the newest mechanic in the Pokemon TCG after Sword & Shield was released and Rayquaza got its own with amazing art by Anesaki Dynamic. While all versions of the card are a bit valuable, the version with the special art is the one collectors covet. This is because it is far rarer and harder to pull from packs, especially with issues that scalpers have caused in recent times.

Rayquaza ~ Dragons Exalted
While there was also a version of this card without the shiny version of Rayquaza, it’s the one with the black dragon that demands serious cash from collectors today. While the card never showed up much competitively, it did also make an appearance in Jon Bristow’s World Championship deck in 2013 as well. It’s possible the card may have had more competitive viability but no one else ever seriously experimented with it.
Psa 10 Neo Genesis First Edition Holo Lugia: $129000
Neo Genesis is effectively the Base Set of the second generation of Pokemon. It was the first time Pokemon from Silver, Gold, or Crystal appeared in the TCG, and it was also marred by a large number of misprints and mistakes in its very first run. Alongside it being the mascot of Pokemon Silver, that’s mainly why a mint condition, holo, first edition Lugia from Neo Genesis is so highly desirable. The PSA has only given a PSA10 grade to 43 of these.
Prices for this card are incredibly unstable, even between cards with the same condition. In November 2020 PWCC sold a copy for $129,000, while less than a year later in September 2021, Goldin sold one for “just”$47,970.

What Are Gold Secret Rare Cards
Gold coloured full art cards had appeared in earlier sets, but the first Gold secret rare cards were released with the Sun and Moon Series in 2017. The Sun and Moon base set included four gold trainer cards and two energy cards with gold borders. The gold finish is holographic and gives the cards a very special look. As with the rainbow rares, the most recent cards have a textured background that makes them shimmer in the light.
The card illustrated is a Gold Secret Rare Trainer Exp. Share 180/163 from the Battle Styles expansion set. It features gold artwork on a textured background.
Psa 10 Southern Islands Reverse Holo Mew: $5950
When the second Pokemon movie was released in Japan, the makers of the Trading Card Game decided to release a special edition set of cards to mark this occasion. The Southern Islands card series was born, featuring just two sets of nine cards apiece that were unique to any other set in the game.
Full sets of these cards can sell for a lot , but the absolute highest value is undoubtedly the Southern Islands Mew, which has a rare reverse foil treatment where the frame around the art is the only part thatâs shiny. The Japanese Pokémon VS Series Cards stand out first because these cards were double the price of normal cards. Add to that its lack of common circulation in the US and you have a subset of Pokemon that has proven hard to find.

Its all the more astounding considering there are around 100 when looking at graded pristine copies.
However, Blastoise is indisputably one of the most popular Pokémon ever, and the same goes for Squirtle and Wartortle, which is the evolution path it follows.

Opinions may differ but the most expensive Pokemon card in the world as of June 2021 in our opinion is the 1999 Base First Edition Chaziard Holo #4 Logan Paul Pokemon Card with a BGS 10 Pristine grade.
Please note although this card may be worth more than a million dollars, the most expensive SOLD to date is the Pikachu Illustrator Extremely sold for $900,000 in February 2022.
The card was purchase by Paul in December of 2020 and was recently worn in his fight with Floyd Money Mayweather. He claims the card is worth 1 million dollars and we think he is actually pretty close.

The PSA values PSA 10-grade Gold Star Rayquazas at an incredibly high $40,400. Auctions can swing wildly either side of that price, too. In 2021 alone, there were three up for sale by Goldin Auctions, with the highest selling for $44,280 and the lowest for $34,440.
