Pokemon Cards For Sale 1st Edition

Tropical Mega Battle No 2 Trainer

Pokémon Cards For Sale- 1st Edition Box Purchase!

Fancy grabbing a slice of the 1999 Mega Battle tournament held in Japan? If you werent there or even a top player, then you can buy one of these cards and pretend to all your mates that you are the real deal.

The catch the last one sold for over $50,000, which is a lot of money just to fool your friends!

Still, PSA has only ever recorded 5 of these passing through the system, which is why this rare card sold for so much!

Because these cards are so rare, it doesnt matter that they arent perfect. They still sell for a tidy sum even when damaged!

Imagine what one might cost with a Grade 10 rating!

First Edition Base Set Charizard

Technically, the first edition Charizard isnt the rarest Pokemon card out there. There are plenty of others in this list that have a far less print quantity. But, the reason we have ranked it number 1 is simply down to demand.

The first edition Charizard is by far the most wanted card out of the whole Pokemon TCG series. Its nostalgic many old Pokemon collectors remember this card, had this card and played with this card. It first released in 1999 in the original base set packs.

Recently, towards the tail end of 2020, a PSA 10 or Beckett 10 First Edition Charizard sold for over $300,000. Just let that sink in for a second.

One single Pokemon card sold for over $300,000 Many say this is just the beginning, and that the First Edition Charizard will only go up in value because its very rare to find high graded ones that come to fruition. This is due to the age of the cards and the mass of cards that have gone missing, forgotten about or sit in poor condition.

High graded cards typically come from newly opened sealed packs, hence why big influencers and celebrities like Logan Paul and Steve Aoki are opening boxes of them. Theyre looking for mint condition Charizards to sell/flip/collect.

What Makes The First Edition Lugia So Valuable

Where Charizard is the poster boy for Gen 1, Lugia is that for Gen 2. This legendary Pokemon was the star of Pokemon The Movie 2000, and on the box artwork for Pokemon Silver on Gameboy.

Lugia as a character is much loved, but when we combine that with a set as stunning as Neo Genesis, the 1st Edition Lugia card was always destined for greatness.

With such a large clear holofoil area, this was always going to be a tough one to grade. In fact, only 43 PSA 10s exist, and only 3 BGS 10s!

A PSA 10 recently sold for $129k, but with the card above only one subgrade away from Beckett Black Label, it totally justified its $144k price tag.

What Makes First Edition Shadowless Base Set Magneton So Valuable

I dont know about you, but I absolutely LOVE Magneton! Theres something about this Pokemon that I think is understated, goes under the radar, but is actually seriously strong. I mean, just look at that Selfdestruct move Magneton is one brave dude!

Jokes aside, this is a first edition base set card with only 64 PSA 10s in existence. Its seriously rare, and evidently, hard to grade. Worth the money? I think so, yes.

Southern Islands Reverse Holo Mew: $200

When the second Pokemon movie was released in Japan, the makers of the Trading Card Game decided to release a special edition set of cards to mark this occasion. The Southern Islands card series was born, featuring just two sets of nine cards apiece that were unique to any other set in the game.

Full sets of these cards can sell for a lot, but the absolute highest value is undoubtedly the Southern Islands Mew, which has a rare reverse foil treatment where the frame around the art is the only part thats shiny. Troll and Toad is currently selling copies for just over $200 right now, making it even more valuable than the elusive and stylish Ancient Mew mentioned earlier.

Holographic Shadowless Blastoise: $2475

Out of the three final-evolution Kanto starters, it’s Blastoise who has the least valuable Shadowless holographic card, reaching heights of $2475 on Pokemon Prices. We say “least valuable”, but that’s still a lot of money for just the one card, and its hardly far behind its sibling Venusaur.

That’s if Blastoise is still in mint condition, of course, which is a big ask considering these cards are over 20 years old. Carrying the powerful Water-type move Hydro Pump, this version of Blastoise was a pretty impressive card to carry in your deck back in the day, but at this point its still a solid collectible card.

Pokmon Base Set 1st Edition Shadowless Holo Machamp #8

Heading back to before the turn of the millennium, the 1999 set contains yet another expensive card featuring one of the original 151 Pokémon.

The fighting-type Machamp is the third and final evolution, starting with Machop and Machoke.

As for Machamp, hes flexing two of his four arms in the image, surrounded by a holo swirl of energy.

There are just a handful of pristine shadowless first edition versions, which makes sense as it wasnt particularly sought after in the first place.

Pokemon German First Edition Glurak

1st edition PSA Pokemon cards for sale

Sold in January, 2021 for $37,000

If you come across a First Edition Charizard from the German release, you’ll notice that Charizard’s name is instead “Glurak.”

Also, unlike the English version, you’ll notice the First Edition German version is not shadowless.

That’s true of the other non-English first editions as well.

Of the 900 German first edition Gluraks that PSA has graded at the time of this writing, 50 have received the lofty PSA 10 distinction.

That’s about a 5.5% success rate compared to around 3.7% for the English first edition Charizards, making it relatively easier to find in that condition.

Identify The Card With The Name And Number In The Set

Finally, identify the card by looking up its name and card number on eBay.

The name will be located above the illustration of the card and the number is on the bottom right of the card. After checking all three of these steps, you should easily be able to identify every card, even if you dont know exactly what set it is in.

Pokemon Japanese Promo Tamamushi University Magikarp Trophy Car

Sold in February, 2021 for $66,100

The Tamamushi University Hyper Test was a two-day event held in June 1998 in Osaka, Japan.

To be invited, children needed to pass a series of test questions that were to be completed and mailed by a specific deadline.

The contestants competed against each other within different age groups with the winners receiving a copy of this card as their prize.

While 1,000 copies were slated for distribution, nobody knows for sure how many actually were.

What is known, though, is that this card is the most expensive Magikarp card in the entire Pokémon series, and one of the most valuable Pokémon cards in general.

St Edition And Unlimited Edition:

The first print run of a set would have a special Edition 1 logo on the left side of the card, just below the card art. An enlarged example of this logo is shown here. The 1st edition print run would typically be very limited, and once sold out, would no longer be available for sale. In fact, the first print runs of a set were officially called Limited Edition.

To meet super-high demand from the public, an Unlimited edition version would then be printed. Unlimited edition cards dont have the Edition 1 logo on the left side. Typically, a 1st edition card will be worth more than an unlimited edition card. Often this price difference can be quite significant.

Pokemon Korean First Edition Charizard

Sold in March, 2021 for $40,000

Unlike some of the other first edition Pokemon cards distributed in different regions and languages in 1999, the Korean version did not debut until a year later in 2000.

Still, they can fetch colossal price tags on the open market just like the other first edition sets.

Not surprisingly, the Charizard is the most desirable of the Korean first edition series.

Most Expensive Pokemon Card In The World

Opinions may differ but the most expensive Pokemon card in the world as of June 2021 in our opinion is the 1999 Base First Edition Chaziard Holo #4 Logan Paul Pokemon Card with a BGS 10 Pristine grade.

The card was purchase by Paul in December of 2020 and was recently worn in his fight with Floyd Money Mayweather. He claims the card is worth 1 million dollars and we think he is actually pretty close.

We value the 1999 First Edition Chaziard Holo #4 Logon Paul Pokemon Card between $700,000 to $900,000.

The Most Valuable First Edition Pokmon Cards Of All

Its amazing to think that a set that is barely 20 years old will sell for millions if youre looking at a complete collection of pristine graded cards.

The original 1999 release is definitely the pinnacle for now, and they look unlikely to be beaten anytime soon.

There are a couple of decent options from 2000 onwards, but they just cant compete with the popularity of the original 151.

The Charizard was always the chase card, but its still insane to think that it could be bought for less than $10,000 back in 2016. What will the value be in 2026?

They are rated 9.5 by the Beckett Grading service another firm that assesses the condition of cards.

These ones currently on eBay have a red dot error a printing anomaly which saw small red spots accidentally featured somewhere on the card.

Although they are misprints, they do in some ways make these cards all the more rare.

What Makes First Edition Shining Charizard So Valuable

Lets dive back into the Neo Era and into Neo Destiny one of the best sets EVER from Wizards of the Coast.

What makes this set so special is that it contains eight secret rare Shining cards. The holofoil was on the character themselves, instead of the background, which is something unique collectors hadnt seen before.

Charizard was always going to lead the pack in terms of value, and that tiny little first edition stamp adds that extra level of rarity too.

In terms of the PSA population, its certainly not as low as some of the others on this list. In fact 229 PSA 10 1st Edition Shining Charizards exist. But with a smaller holofoil area, grading is relatively easier, therefore this is to be expected.

So is it worth it? For so many reasons , YES. This is an awesome first edition, WOTC era, secret rare Charizard. It ticks so many boxes.

What About Your Cards

“The regular Charizard card might be worth around £300,” Dan, from trading cards and collectibles shop Game HQ, tells Newsbeat.

“Most cards that people have will be the mass-produced ones so they wont be worth as much, but they can still be worth a lot of money as long as the cards are in good condition.

It might be time to ask your mum to dig out your old stuff, but if you do, which ones should you look out for?

First Edition Shadowless Holographic Charizard #4

A very valuable version of a classic fan-favourite

Sold for $369,000 in December 2020

Shiny Charizard has been one of the Pokémon card games most popular cards since it first released in 1999, so theres no surprise that 20-plus years later, it remains one of the most sought-after cards for collectors and fans alike.

While a number of first-edition cards from the Pokémon TCGs early days are worth some money – assuming theyre still in good nick – due to their limited availability and age, this specific version of the holographic Charizard absolutely stands out as one of the rarest and most valuable Pokémon cards ever released.

A PSA 10 Base Set 1st Edition Charizard just sold at auction with an ending bid of $183,812.00 via . Including the 20% buyer’s premium, the total transaction value exceeds $220k. As of now, this is the highest known sale of the card.

What Makes First Edition Shadowless Base Set Blastoise So Valuable

Pokemon HD: Value Of Charizard Pokemon Card

If youre more of a water-type trainer, Blastoise is your guy. It may not be able to breathe fire, but with water canons on your back who cares!

This much appreciated middle child of the big three will forever be in Charizards shadow, but will eclipse Venusaur in terms of value.

With only 100 PSA 10s in existence, the stats are very similar to Charizard.

Interestingly, the value of PSA 10 1st Edition Base Set Blastoise, is relatively similar to a PSA 9 1st Edition Base Set Charizard .

So which is the better investment? PSA 10 Blastoise or PSA 9 Charizard

My head says the Blastoise 100% the numbers are much more favourable.

But god damn it, my heart says the Charizard! I just want it more! That bad-ass dragon gets me every time.

Espeon And Umbreon Gold Star Pop Series 5

A pair of Gold Star Pokémon cards from one of the most valuable Pokémon sets of all time

Sold for $22,000 in February 2021

Gold Star Pokémon cards are among the most valuable sets of Pokémon cards in existence and command an incredibly high value as a result. The cards are named after the gold star that appears next to the Pokémons name at the top of the card, which signifies that the card features alternative-colour artwork different from the common version. Only 27 Gold Star cards were released from 2004 to 2007, making them some of the rarest Pokémon cards available.

While all of the Gold Star Pokémon cards are rare, only appearing once in approximately every 88 booster packs for certain Pokémon TCG expansions, the very rarest are the Eeveelutions – the many evolutions into which basic Gen 1 Pokémon Eevee can evolve. And the rarest of the rarest are the original Japanese-language versions of the cards offered to members of the Pokémon Players Club, who could spend points earned by participating in official organised play and tournaments to obtain exclusive cards.

While Eeveelutions Flareon, Jolteon and Vaporeon could be acquired in the EX Power Keepers set released in 2007 via the Pokémon online store, their psychic and dark elemental siblings Espeon and Umbreon could only be picked up by players who collected enough Pokémon Players Club points. The Espeon 025/PLAY card required 40,000 EXP points earned, while Umbreon 026/PLAY was even most pricey at 70,000 points.

Backless Blastoise Commissioned Presentation Galaxy Star Holo

Sold in January, 2021 for $360,000

Wizards of the Coast printed this extremely rare presentation card as a test run sometime during 1998 as it ramped up efforts to launch the English version of its base set in 1999.

Though it has a similar appearance to the base set Blastoise, notice it has squared corners instead of rounded corners.

Moreover, the back of the card is completely blank.

Hobby experts believe that WOTC printed only two of these “backless Blastoise” cards, so the hobby was stunned when this card came up for auction in early 2021.

Given that the market responded with a $360,000 selling price for this card, I can only imagine what it would have sold for had Charizard been on the front.

Pokemon First Edition Raichu

Sold in March, 2021 for $17,100

As Pokemon skyrocketed in popularity over the years, one character became almost synonymous with the franchise as its de facto mascot.

Much of Pikachu’s popularity originates from the first episode of the Pokemon anime series entitled “Pokemon – I Choose You!” when the main protagonist of the series, Ash Ketchum, a trainer, receives Pikachu as his Pokemon from Professor Oak.

However, when exposed to a Thunderstone, the lovable, yellow, furry, rodent-like creature evolves into the final form of Raichu.

Raichu looks quite similar to Pikachu, but with a few distinct characteristics, namely its tail, ears, and dark coloration of the tip of its paws.
