Having an ultimately powerful attack or ability might sound like an amazing special move to pull out when in a moment of need but there is a very big drawback to these VSTAR powers, you can only use a VSTAR power once per battle. Even if you have multiple VSTAR Pokemon in your deck for the whole battle you can only use these powers once.
While these VSTAR Pokemon are powerful they aren’t invincible. Another addition to the VSTAR Pokemon Card is a note at the bottom that reads as follows
VSTAR Rule: When your Pokemon VSTAR is Knicked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards
This ruling follows along the lines of other extra powerful Pokemon, it’s a higher risk but the power output of some of these attacks is incredibly powerful.

Pokemon Brilliant Stars Set Review Grass Fire And Water
A new set is always a very exciting time as a Pokemon player. Playing with new cards and trying to determine where everything fits into the meta is one of my favorite aspects of the game. Which new decks will rise to the top and have an impact? What older decks will get new life breathed into them via these new cards? Brilliant Stars is being touted by many community members as the best Pokemon TCG set since Guardians Rising in 2017. Thats mighty praise, considering the impact that Guardians Rising had on the game. So will Brilliant Stars stand up to the hype?
Throughout my set review, Ill be grading each of the interesting cards on a five-point scale to leave my opinion on what kind of impact these cards will have on the competitive Pokemon TCG landscape. This review will be in four parts and released over the course of the next week. Each part will cover all Pokemon of a certain type.
As mentioned, these cards will be graded on a five-point scale, one being the worst and five being the best. Since this is my first set review on ChannelFireball, lets break down my criteria for each of these 5 points.

The Next Pokmon Tcg Set Is Brilliant Stars Coming Feb 25
The VSTAR mechanic will enter the TCG next year.
The next English Pokémon TCG set has been revealed. The VSTAR-centric Brilliant Stars will be released on Feb. 25.
This will be the Western equivalent of the upcoming Star Birth OCG set, which will introduce the new VSTAR mechanic and feature Arceus VSTAR.
VSTAR is another evolution patch for Pokémon V to pair with VMAX and will feature powerful abilities called VSTAR Power that can only be used once per game. Theyre meant to generate major advantages for the player using them, like Arceus VSTARs VSTAR Power Starbirth, which will allow a player to search for any two cards from their deck and add them to their hand.

The Pokemon Company ended 2021 with a bang after the release of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and its started this year off similarly with Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Now, its the Pokemon Trading Card Games turn to set 2022 alight with this years first expansion, Brilliant Stars due to release on February 25, 2022.
Weve compiled a list of all the Secret Rare cards you can expect to pull within this expansion and how much theyre currently worth.
This exciting and eye-catching set holds over 170 cards and features four brand-new VSTAR cards and 30 cards with special artwork. Brilliant Stars will also house 20 V cards and three VMAX cards with over 20 Trainer cards and a new Special Energy Card.

At the moment while it’s assumed later Pokemon sets will also include VSTAR Pokemon there’s only two other places to obtain VSTAR Pokemon. The Pokemon TCG: Leafeon VSTAR Special Collection and Pokemon TCG: Glaceon VSTAR Special Collection. Inside these boxes you’ll get a Leafeon VSTAR and a Glaceon VSTAR respectively and a VSTAR Marker that you can use to help track when you’ve used up your one VSTAR Power use for the battle.

Pokmon Tcg: Brilliant Stars’ Flareon Full Art Card Shows A New Side To Rival Blue
Blue is an iconic rival character in the Pokémon series. This video game character was the inspiration for the anime character Gary, who is infamous for his attitude towards Ash. Blues one-sidedness in the original Red and Blue versions has been supplemented over the years by additional appearances in Gold, Silver, and Crystal, Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon, and even Pokémon Masters EX. But despite Blues many Pokémon game appearances, he isnt on many Pokémon: TCG cards. His two Supporter cards from the Sun & Moon era – Blues Tactics and Red & Blue – had their own full art versions, but have been mostly forgotten.
In Brilliant Stars, Blue features on not one but three different Trainer Gallery cards, one each for Jolteon, Vaporeon, and Flareon. Each has their own fantastic art done by different artists, but Flareons feels particularly distinct. Blue is known for his aggressive and oftentimes rude demeanor in Red and Blue, so to see him in a more personable moment with his Pokémon is really something special. The small detail of what appears to be burn marks on Blue implies that there may have been a mishap during training with Flareon – and yet the normally annoying Pokémon rival Blue is petting Flareon with kindness. Although the Jolteon card portrays an epic battle moment and Vaporeons an instance of exploration, Flareons card gives fans a glimpse at a whole new side of Blue.

And this is where Sword & Shield Brilliant Stars does for 2022 what Sword & Shield Battle Styles did for 2021. Battle Styles will forever be underrated for reintroducing the best card type Alternate Arts to the hobby. Now, Brilliant Stars introduces the Trainer Gallery subset which not only brings back Character Rares for the first time since Sun & Moon Cosmic Eclipse, it also introduces Character Super Rares and activates the Reverse Holo slot as a slot where you can pull a major hit from.
With Eeveelution cards, Mimikyu, Acerola, Gloria, and more in the Trainer Gallery, this turns Sword & Shield Brilliant Stars from a strong set into an era-defining set.

Another nice touch is the update made to Black & Gold VMAXes, which now include a third color specific to the Pokémon.

How Do I Recognize Vstar Pokemon Cards
You’ll be able to immediately recognize a VSTAR card by looking at the title of the Pokemon. Just like other special editions of cards where you might see something like Charizard GX, or Charizard V the card from this new set will display Charizard VSTAR.
Another new entry on the card will be a white bar partway down the card labeled “VSTAR Power”. Underneath this bar, you’ll see either a move or a Pokemon ability.
Sword & Shield: Brilliant Stars
Sword & Shield: Brilliant Stars introduces four new VSTAR Pokémon: Arceus, Charizard, Shaymin, Whimsicott. Each Brilliant Stars Booster pack comes with ten cards, a card code for the Pokémon TCG Live, and a basic Energy card. Brilliant Stars also features 20 Pokémon V cards, 3 Pokémon VMAX cards, and a subset of 30 Trainer Gallery cards. This is to show that VSTAR is not a replacement for Pokémon V or Pokémon VMAX especially since Pokémon VSTAR evolves from Pokémon V. All the Pokémon VSTAR also have a rainbow rare version within Brilliant Stars Expansion .

Brilliant Stars: Booster Box comes with 36 Booster Packs which give you 360 cards to unpack! It can also be used individually if you are the type that likes anticipation to only open a pack once per week, or for those who would want to open 360 cards in one setting! Manaphy Will Protect Benched Pokemon
Many are saying that Manaphy will have a lot of impact on the meta as well, thanks to its ability that blocks damage done to the bench. However, Im not so convinced that it will see as much play as people think it will. After all, most of the top decks right now arent overly concerned about their bench. Some might tech it into their decks as a defense against Jolteon and Rapid Strike Urshifu. Or decks that are particularly weak against those two might rely on it as a backup. However, ultimately it should really be not much more than an obstacle that players waste a Bosss Orders on, and not a whole lot more.
Leafeon Vstar Is Underrated
My number one pick for most underrated card from Brilliant Stars so far has to be Leafeon VSTAR. The VSTAR ability for Leafeon is a powerful combo for the Leafeon archetype, enabling you to switch your opponents active Pokemon with one of their benched without having to play a bosss orders. Additionally, Leafeon VSTAR hits for 180, meaning it can use, for example, its VSTAR ability to bring out a benched Mew and also knock it out.
Leafeon VSTAR has what it takes to save the Leafeon VMAX deck from the virtual extinction it has seen ever since the release of Fusion Strike.

Pokmon Vstar Special Collections
Two New VSTAR Special Collections have also dropped to promote the new Pokémon VSTAR. The collection is based on Glaceon and Leafeon. The Glaceon VSTAR, Glaceon V, Leafeon VSTAR, and Leafeon V are part of the SWSH Black Star Promos which were created back in 2019 to promote the Sword & Shield Series. Each collection will come with a V and a VSTAR of their face Pokémon, an oversized promo VSTAR card, five booster packs from Sword & Shield expansions, and an Acrylic VSTAR marker to track when you have used a VSTAR ability .

The New Vstar Mechanic
Ultimately, I dont think Brilliant Stars will have TOO big of an impact on the game. I think Leafeon will benefit from the VSTAR mechanic a lot. Jolteon and Urshifu might suffer a little. Fusion Strike might have a little more competition. Otherwise this doesn’t seem like a huge set besides the VSTAR mechanic.
VSTAR is an ability or an attack that you can only use once per game. Essentially, it is a rebranded GX attack, and it will certainly have a resounding impact on the Standard Format. Theres really no way around it, especially since these abilities/attacks are incredibly powerful, such as doing an attack for 320 like Charizard VSTAR, or searching your deck for any two cards you want.
Dedenne Full Art Card In Pokmon Tcg: Brilliant Stars Is Vibrant And Silly
Some of Brilliant Stars Trainer Gallery cards feature generic Trainer NPCs rather than specific characters this is a great opportunity to utilize their unique designs in new settings. The Dedenne full art character card includes one of the four designs of Furisode Girls, the Trainer class from X and Y. In her first-ever Pokémon: TCG appearance, the Furisode Girl – using the black hair with pigtails design – seems to have lost control of her Dedenne, one of the Pokémon series Pikachu-esque Pika-clones. The silly Pokémon is knocking over a sewing machine and ripping apart rolls of fabric – which are colored to match the other Furisode designs – and its Trainer is struggling to catch it.

Dedennes art utilizes bright, vibrant colors and thick outlines to give it an energetic and stylized feel. The fabrics referencing the other Furisode Girls is a clever detail, and the overall composition includes just enough Dedenne to ensure its the focus of the card, while still letting the Furisode Girl take up her fair share of image space, too. It would have been nice if this version of Dedenne had the Mad Party attack so it could see more competitive play, but in terms of its art, this Brilliant Stars TCG card is highly memorable, and a fun throwback to one of Pokémon X and Ys Trainer classes.
