A complete guide to Pokemon Sword and Shield shiny hunting including how to get the Shiny Charm

You can find a Pokemon Sword and Shield shiny Pokemon for almost every creature out there, and catching them all is often the ultimate goal for the biggest and most dedicated collectors. However, catching Pokemon Sword and Shield shinies is quite a different process in this game, compared to any other title in the series. Which is why this guide might be of use to you. Coming up we’ve got some tips for catching Pokemon Sword and Shield shiny Pokemon, and exactly how it all works in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Increase Your Breeding Odds Using The Masuda Method

The Masuda Method is a technique for breeding Shiny Pokemon which has been present in the series since Generation 3. When two Pokemon of different countries of origin are brought to a Nursery, their chances of producing a Shiny egg increase significantly.

In comparison to the usual 1/4096 rate for breeding Shinies, the Masuda Method results in an increase to a whopping 1/683 odds. Still few and far between, but that’s progress, right? As this method relies on breeding, it can be said to be more effective for encountering Star Shinies.

Players often seek to find foreign Dittos for this reason, as Dittos are extremely useful for breeding Pokemon with high IVs, so a foreign Ditto, especially one with high IVs itself, is a must for players hoping to breed a Shiny ready for online competitive play. Do Shiny Parents Affect The Child

does a regular foreign parent/shiny native parent have a higher chance than regular foreign parent/regular native parent? I believe it did in previous gens but do we know for sure whether it does or not in sun/moon?

A shiny parent hasn’t had bearing in Gen VI. A foreign parent does though. Numbers below are approximate / rounded . Only thing that matters is having a local and a foreign parent.

Local non-shiny + local non-shiny = ~1/4000 chance

Local non-shiny + local shiny = ~1/4000 chance

Foreign non-shiny + local non-shiny = ~1/800 chance

Foreign non-shiny + local shiny = ~1/800 chance

Awesome, got my foreign Eevee, just 782 more rolls to go before I can get my shiny Umbreon

So breeding my Ditto with the shiny Eevee I caught increases the chances to 1/800? That’s a really good chance at shiny offspring, considering how rare they seem to be otherwise.

What Deadpan said. Being shiny never affected anything in any gen other than the shiny pokemon’s own color pallet. It’s not going to help your odds of breeding a shiny if you use a shiny pokemon as a parent. The ONLY things that affect breeding shiny pokemon is if you use the masuda method , and the shiny charm.

Be Prepared For Battle

So, you’ve got your Shiny Charm and you’ve battled roughly three billion Wooloo, finally stumbling across a rare Shiny one. Time to catch it th- Oh no! You’ve not got any Poké Balls!

This might go without saying, but make sure you’re prepared for when a Shiny Pokémon shows up. Stock up on the best Poké Balls for the ‘mon you’re hunting – Ultra Balls should work well in most cases – and have plenty of healing items with you just in case.

You’ll also want to think about which Pokémon to use to battle the Shiny you’ve just found. One popular choice is Gallade, a Pokémon which can learn both Thunder Wave and False Swipe . Some abilities may come in useful, too Quagsire has the ability ‘Damp’, for example, which prevents wild Pokémon from using attacks like Explosion or Self Destruct.

The last thing you want is for your Shiny Pokémon to run away, wipe itself out with Explosion, or for you to defeat it in battle. Who knows how long it’ll be until you find another one?

Fight The Same Pokemon To Improve Odds For Hunting In The Wild

How to breed shiny pokemon.

The game will track the total number of Pokemon of a certain species caught or defeated by the player. As this number increases, the chances of the player encountering a Shiny version of that Pokemon will increase accordingly. However, running away from a battle with that Pokemon will prevent the number from increasing.

Number caught/defeated in a row Shiny encounter rate change
6x 1/683

For example, if a player catches or defeats Eevee 500 times any time during their playthrough, their chances of encountering a Shiny Eevee will be multiplied by 6, for a total odds of 1/683, or equivalent to that of the Masuda Method. Unlike some previous games which featured a Chaining mechanic to improve the rate of encountering Shinies, this method references the total number of battles with that Pokemon.

As this method relies on catching Pokemon in the wild, it can be said to be more effective for hunting for Square Ultra Shinies.

Check your number of encounters from the Pokedex

On the Pokedex screen from the menu, you can check the number of times you’ve encountered every Pokemon in the Number Battled field. This number is the same one used by the game to calculate the Shiny rate, so it’s a useful reference for hunting.

Basics Of Pokemon Sword And Shield Shiny Hunting

So you want to start shiny hunting in Pokemon Sword and Shield? There’s a few things you need to know before you start. Firstly, catch combos don’t exist in Galar while chaining is still a thing that we’ll get onto shortly, catch combos were first introduced with Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee. You don’t need to worry about catch combos specifically here, because shiny chains in Pokemon Sword and Shield work differently.

To begin shiny hunting, you first need to choose which Pokemon you want to hunt. Whether it’s a Wooloo or a Wailord, pick your target then go to the location that particular pocket monster spawns the most .

Essentially, you need to keep battling the Pokemon of your choice and either catch them or knock them out. The higher your tally of that specific species you’ve battled, the more likely it is to be shiny. You can check how many you’ve battled under the relevant Pokedex entry. While that’s the basic gist of things, read on to understand how it all works and how to shiny hunt more effectively.

How Can You Increase The Shiny Rate

I remember seeing somewhere that if you breed a Pokemon from a different region its offspring would have a higher chance of being shiny. Is this true?

What other methods can be used to increase the odds of obtaining shiny Pokemon?

Also, What is the chance of breeding a shiny if one/both of the parent Pokemon are also shiny?

  • I would use the Consecutive fishing method because you put more effort into geting a shiny pokemon So far the shinies I’ve gotten from this method is: – 12 Claunchers – 1 Horsea

From serebii.net, if you breed a pokemon from another region different to your game with another pokemon, you will have a higher chance of getting a shiny pokemon. Colloquially called the Masuda Method after the developer Junichi Masuda, this can increase your chance of breeding a shiny from 1 in 8,192 to 1 in 2,048 or 1,365.3 . Generation 6 figures are unknown at the moment, but to be honest I’ve heard a lot of people getting shinies so it could have been lowered even more.

As noted by Nolonar it is required that both parents must come from a game with different language. For instance, if your game is in English and both parents are Japanese, the Masuda method will not work.

Without any method, the chance of encountering, obtaining, or breeding a shiny pokemon is 1 in 8,192.

200 catches may seem high, but it’s miles ahead of the one in 8000+ chance normally and still significantly better than the 1 in 1,365.3 chance the gen 5 foreign Ditto chance had .

Does A Shiny Ditto Breed Shinies

If you mean will having a shiny Ditto as one of the parents increase the shiny rate, then no, as having shiny parents do not affect the chance if hatching a shiny Pokémon. So for example, if you have a Japanese Ditto and breed it with an American Charmander, then the chances of hatching a shiny are increased.

How Does The Masuda Method Work

How to Breed Shiny Pokemon Using the Masuda Method

The main condition that must be met in order for increased shiny odds to occur is that both Pokemon must be from a game of a different language, such as English and Japanese. A Pokemon’s game origins can be identified by a three-letter language tag in their summary, such as “ITA” for Italian. If there is no tag, then the Pokemon comes from the player’s own language.

The specific shiny odds for the Masuda method vary between generations:

  • In Generation IV, the regular odds of 1/8192 are multiplied by 5, resulting in 1/1638 or 0.061% chance.
  • In Generation V, the regular odds of 1/8192 are multiplied by 6, resulting in 1/1365 or 0.073% chance.
  • In Generation VI and onwards, the regular odds were increased to 1/4096, which multiplied by 6 results in 1/683 or 0.146% chance.

The great thing about the Masuda method is that players have control over the Pokemon they are shiny hunting. Players can determine what moves the Pokemon has, their nature, and even the Pokemon’s IVs. In short, a Pokemon’s IVs are like their genetic code that determines how strong it can be grow to be in each of its stats. Being able to have great IVs means that shiny Pokemon obtained using this method are quite strong and can be used competitively as well.

So youll need to choose your starter and then look at it in the menu to see if its a shiny or not.

How To Increase Chance Of Breeding Shiny Pokemon How To Get Foreign Ditto

To increase your chances of breeding a Shiny Pokemon in Pokemon Sword & Shield, you have to breed your Pokemon with one from somewhere else around the world, ideally, a foreign Ditto . Anyway, this is where Dittos become a very precious commodity. See, a Ditto can breed with every Pokemon. How To Increase Shiny Pokmon Breeding Odds With The Masuda Method

In order to increase the chances of breeding a Shiny Pokémon, the player needs to acquire a parent Pokémon that comes from a different-language region. Pokémon from different real-world regions each have a three-letter word on their summary page that denotes that region, such as “JPN” or “ITA.” Many players seek out foreign Ditto for this reason, as they can breed with almost any Pokémon. In Pokémon Sword and Shield, using this method will increase the chances of a Shiny Pokémon hatching from 1/1365 to 1/683. This effect can also be increased even further by owning the Shiny Charm.

Masuda mentioned this method was added to the game to encourage players to use the Global Trade System, which debuted in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The Masuda Method is still used by fans to this day, with professional Shiny breeders actively hunting foreign Pokémon to use for the express purpose of creating more Shinies.

2 Answers. Yes, a shiny pokemon will remain shiny after evolution. Upon evolution, a Pokémon will retain its Shiny status. A Shiny Charmander, if leveled up, will eventually become a Shiny Charmeleon and then a Shiny Charizard, just as a regular Charmander will become a regular Charmeleon and then a regular Charizard.

You Can Increase Your Chances Of Finding A Unique

You can increase your chances of finding a unique-colored Pokémon.

One of the most exciting things about playing any Pokémon game is encountering a Shiny Pokémon, rare creatures that have different coloring than usual. Some stand out significantly with very different coloring while others are simply a different shade of the same hues. For instance, Chimchar’s red-brown fur is pink in its shiny variant while Shiny Piplup is only a slightly lighter shade of blue. Your default odds of finding or breeding a shiny in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are 1/4096, but fortunately, there are some things you can do that can increase your chances by quite a bit.
