How Much Pokemon Cards Are Worth

*ARE YOUR POKEMON CARDS VALUABLE?* How To Find Value!
  • Pokemon cards value: $43,200

Available only as a participation award in a 1999 tournament at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu, where only 50 of the top players around the world were invited, this is one of the rarest and most coveted cards in the world. Its also unlikely you have one shoved in a drawer somewhere unless youre a retired pro.

How Much Are Pokmon Cards With Typos Worth

Probably not for a whole lot, and there are actually a couple of decent reasons for this.

The main reason is because Pokemon cards very, very rarely have typos. Any typo tends to be caught during the early part of the manufacturing process. There are just too many people looking at Pokemon cards for those laden with typos to be released out there into the wild.

To be honest with you, the vast majority of cards out there with typos will actually be fake Pokemon cards. As you can imagine, this means that the vast majority of people are going to be steering clear of them anyway. They do not want to have to deal with cards that have typos on them. It isnt worth their time or money.

Secondly, if a card did just so happen to have a typo on it, this is not going to be unique to a specific card. Every card of that type in the print run will have the same typo on it.

This means that even with the rarest of cards in the set, there will still be thousands of that card out there. This means that you do not really have anything that is all that unique. You just have your normal Pokemon card.

There may be some lower selling sets that have cards with typos on them. These cards may sell for a little bit more. However, once again, they are not especially unique, so you probably shouldnt count on earning the big bucks from them.

First Edition Holographic Raichu

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $2,500

Raichu, the rodent-like evolved form of Pikachu, is an electric-type Pokémon that uses its tail to gather electricity from both the ground and atmosphere.

As it charges, the creature stores the electricity in those circular, yellow sacs on its cheeks and once fully charged, Raichu’s ears will point directly upwards.

Raichu also uses its pointed tail as a ground to prevent itself from being electrically shocked.

World Championship Masters Key

The 18 Most Valuable Pokémon Cards That Are Worth a Ton of Money

A copy of the Masters Key sold for more than $20,000 in November 2019. Unlike most cards sold at auction, this one wasnt graded by PSA and was instead sold in the trophy case in which it was presented. Whether or not a graded copy of the card would have fetched more remains to be seen, but, given the value, its perhaps understandable why the seller wasnt too keen to crack open the trophy case to find out.

Masters Key was originally handed out to contestants at the 2010 Pokemon World Championships. The event took place in Hawaii and was contested by just 36 players. As a result, the card is incredibly rare, with only nine GEM-MT 10 copies the highest grade that can be handed out by the PSA in existence.

Pokmon Japanese Base Set No Rarity Symbol Holo Venusaur

A very rare Pokémon card made ever more valuable by its artists autograph

Sold for $55,000 in November 2021

Many of the rarest Pokémon cards date from the trading card games early days, with first edition cards released in the 1990s ranking as among the most valuable Pokémon cards today.

While the first edition stamp on cards is highly sought-after in the English edition of the Pokémon card game, the rarest Japanese Pokémon cards are instead identified by their lack of a stamp. Specifically, a missing black star in the bottom-right of a Japanese-language card is whats known as No Rarity – meaning that the card is missing the common symbol used to signify a Pokémon cards rarity.

No Rarity Pokémon cards are among the rarest Pokémon cards in existence, and few come rarer than the Venusaur Pokémon card from the games first print run in 1996. Just five copies of the Bulbasaur evolution – famous for appearing on the original video game Pokémon Green – have been graded at a perfect Gem-Mint 10 by PSA, making a flawless copy of the card extremely rare.

While a No Rarity Venusaur card commands a high price by itself, a copy sold in November 2021 set a new record for the rare Pokémon card by fetching $55,000 at auction. Helping the record sum was the signature of the cards illustrator Mitsuhiro Arita – the legendary artist behind many Pokémon cards from the last 20-plus years – on the cards case, making the already rare Pokémon card truly one-of-a-kind.

Pokmon Japanese Promo Tropical Mega Battle Tropical Wind

The only way to participate was to win a battle in your local region and earn an invite, making it an exclusive event for the best Pokémon trainers in the world – and the cards offered as prizes some of the rarest Pokémon cards in existence.

This particular Tropical Mega Battle promo card, the 1999 Japanese-language copy of Tropical Wind, has sold at auction for as much as $65,100 in PSA Gem Mint 10 condition, with the most recent record-breaking sale taking place in October 2020. Should I Sell My Pokemon Cards Individually Or As A Complete Collection

If you have a lot of Pokemon cards, its probably not worth selling them individually, unless theyre all rare cards.

As a general rule, you will get more if you sell the cards individually, but it will take longer to list and sell them. If you dont have a lot of time on your hands, its fine to list your whole Pokemon card collection as a bulk lot. Alternatively, you can pull out the rarest cards and sell them separately to make a bit of extra money.

If selling your Pokemon collection as a bulk lot of cards, its very important to get good pictures of the rarest cards, so that people can see what you have.

Do Pawn Shops Buy Pokemon Cards

Pawn shops do buy Pokemon cards in some cases, but we dont recommend selling them there. Unless the pawn shop is known to specialize in trading card games, chances are high the clerk wont know the ins and outs of Pokemon card trading. So you can expect a lowball offer.

If you want to sell them locally and in-person, try comic book shops or hobby shops instead.

How To Tell If Pokmon Cards Are Worth Money

Identifying if your Pokemon cards are worth money is quite important. It will help you determine the value when trading or selling to others to get the most out of it.

The more rare the card is, the higher value it holds. In general, if the year in which the Pokémon cards was made is between 1999 and 2000, as indicated at the bottom of the card, then chances are the card has significantly increased value.

To find out if the Pokemon cards are worth money or not is by simply looking at the bottom right corner of the card, the rarity symbol is next to the card number.

A black circle represents the card is common, while a diamond shape means the card is uncommon, and a black star symbol indicates that the card is rare.

As time passes by, the first edition of Pokemon cards are still extremely valuable in the present day. These cards will be marked with the same stamp that you will see near the bottom left corner of the card.

If there is no stamp there, double check the copyright dates because it may be rarer than you think.

Find The Set Number Of The Pokemon Card

    5.623+ Old Charizard Card Worth

Look at the bottom right or bottom left corner of the card for a number, typically in the format ###/###.

In this case, the set number is RC21/RC25. Note that the set number does not normally contain letters, but it can sometimes. As long as theres a / symbol, or a number on its own, then thats the set symbol.

Do You Have Any First Editions Pokmon Cards: Set Prices

First edition cards tend to be worth more than other cards, so if you have some of those in your collection you might just be in luck.

For the most part, first edition cards are easy to spot as you will often see Edition 1 printed next to the bottom left corner of the cards art frame.

For example, take a look at a first-edition holographic Charizard that can get you, depending on the condition, anything from $2,000 USD to several hundreds of thousands of dollars.

While other editions still may get you around $100 USD on average, having a good condition 1st Edition card is always a good place to start if you are looking to sell cards from your collection.

Due to the insane obscurity of how the TCG item was given out, its easily one of the rarest Pokemon cards on our list. It was not very surprising then when the Trophy collectible went up for auction in February 2021 and sold for $66k at PWCC.
