Zamazenta originates from the Galar region, and is known as one of the Heroes of Many Battles. It has two different forms depending on if it is holding its Rusted Shield. It is also the mascot Pokemon of Pokemon Shield. Players would encounter it during the end of their journey in that title. Now that it is being introduced into Pokemon Go, players finally have a chance to capture Zamazenta.

Defeat And Capture The Legendary Pokemon

You will first be faced with the Legendary Pokemon that is not available to you.

So if you are playing Sword, you will face Zamazenta, and if Shield, Zacian.

You cannot capture this Pokemon, so dont even try. Be sure not to use your Master Ball here, as it would be a tragic waste.

Zacian is Fairy/Steel Type, and so you are going to want to counter this with either a strong Fire or Ground type Pokemon of your own.

Zamazenta, meanwhile, is a Fighting/Steel type. This is convenient, as it means the best counter to both is always going to be a Fire or Ground type of your own.

Once defeated, your versions legendary will join the fight, and you can capture it now by using your Master Ball.

It is possible to capture your versions legendary with an Ultra Ball, but it can be very difficult. If you reduce the targets health to critical and inflict a status like sleep upon it, it can be done.

But, honestly, just use your Master Ball. It is what it is for, after all!

While you might think this quest is over, there is one final step. Return to the Slumbering Weald.

There you will find Hop, who will capture the other Legendary Pokemon. You will battle him now one last time. This will be the final battle before the games true ending, so hold nothing back.

How To Catch Legendaries Zacian And Zamazenta

After winning the Champion Cup over Leon, you will receive the credits roll, which makes it seems like the game is over. However, Pokemon Sword and Shield are far from over at that point. You start off back at your house and get a visit from Professor Magnolia, who gifts you with a Master Ball.

You will end up on a quest of solving the Dynamax problem started up by two new antagonists that get introduced. The game lets you know exactly where you need to go through this process on your map. Once you defeat the opposite legendary, your version exclusive legendary Pokemon will show up and ask you to battle it. This lets you heal up and save prior to the fight, so its a good idea to do both of these before interacting with the Pokemon.

Is Zacian Better Than Zamazenta

Zacian is considerably better than Zamazenta within Pokemon Sword and Shields competitive battling formats. Though Zamazenta has a very high base stat total and excellent defenses, its less powerful than many other legendary Pokemon and is significantly weaker than Zacian. There are three reasons for this.

First and foremost is that Zamazentas move pool doesnt really make great use of its natural bulkiness. Zamazenta lacks the staple moves of tanky Pokemon like Recover, Counter, and Mirror Coat, undermining his staying power in games despite his high defensive base stats. Theres also the glaring omission of Body Press, a move that was introduced in Gen VIII that would work perfectly for Zamazenta and is in line with his typing, but is inexplicably missing from his arsenal.

Second is Crowned Zacians particularly strong stat distribution. With 148 base speed, only Regileki, Pheromosa, Ninjask, and Shadow Rider Calyrex are naturally faster than Zacian. With 170 base attack, the only Pokemon that can punch opponents as hard as Zacian are Kartana and Black Kyurem. Zamazentas base stats add up to the same number as Zacian, but Zacians stats are consolidated in a way that makes it an offensive powerhouse.

How To Catch Zamazenta

It goes pretty much without saying, but Zamazenta is exclusive to Pokémon Shield. Sword & Shield follow the trend of having the box Legendary come to your aid to fight a world-ending threat. In this case, Zamazenta helps you fight Eternatus when Chairman Rose summons it. However, you can’t catch it during this battle.

Instead, you’ll need to beat Leon and become the champion without a Legendary. Then you can play the post-game story, which sees you chasing the sword and shield brothers. Go to Slumbering Weald and meet Hop to start this storyline. At the end of it, you’ll be given the opportunity to get Zamazenta.

You will just have to find someone willing to trade theirs to you instead if you want both. Anyway, heres how to get the legendary for your version.

And yes, you will need to complete the game before you can normally catch Zacian and Zamazenta. That means having to get all the way through the Gym battles and the Championship Cup. You will be returned to your home after being Leon and claiming the mantle of Champion in Galar. From your house, the old professor shows up to give you a Master Ball, you will need this.

Head back into the Slumbering Weald. Head into the area and back to where you first got the Relics for the Legendary Pokemon.

After you defeat Hop this time, a cutscene will play prompting you to go up to the shrine and return the Rusted Sword and Shield. Make sure to save before you return the Sword and Shield though. This will then trigger two new characters to enter the scene. Swordard and Shielbert will show up, claiming to be the royal descendants of the ancient Heroes of Galar. And because its a Pokemon game, they challenge you to a battle. The player will fight Sordward in Sword or Shielbert in Shield, while Hop faces the other.
