Pokemon Lets Go Guide Catch Combo Rewards Detailed

The BEST Catch Combo Guide In Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee!

One of the new features in Pokemon Lets Go, Pikachu and Lets Go Eevee is the Catch Combos that appear whenever you catch the same Pokemon continuously.

With the game adapting the catching mechanic from Pokemon Go, it makes catching Pokemon a lot easier as you no longer need to worry about fighting the Pokemon and drop it at a certain amount of HP before catching it. That being said, you can keep catching Pokemon effortlessly as long as you have a Pokeball.

There are several benefits if you keep on catching the same Pokemon species over and over. Before getting into the benefits and rewards of continuously catching the same Pokemon over and over, lets get into what things that can break the chain.

If you are dedicated in doing a streak of catch combos, its important to know what may break it. Here are the conditions:

1. Capture a different species of Pokemon If youre somehow on your 40th chain of catching a Pikachu in Viridian Forest and you find a rare Bulbasaur that you catch, that will break the chain.

2. Pokemon that Runs Away Its not always 100% guaranteed that the Pokemon in the wild can be caught in one try. Some are hard to catch while others run away. If it runs away, that will break the chain.

Tips For Catch Combos

  • At lower Catch Combos, it’s not as big a deal if it gets broken. However, if you’re aiming to search for shinies or rare Pokémon, you may want to use Razz Berries or stronger Poké Balls to ensure your Catch Combo isn’t broken by a fleeing Pokémon
  • Once you reach a Catch Combo of 31 or higher, you can’t raise your chances for shiny Pokémon anymore. If this is your goal, you can stop here!
  • If you’re trying to get a shiny Pokémon, you’ll only be able to increase your odds for the Pokémon you’re working on a Catch Combo for, not every Pokémon you encounter.
  • However, you can “cheat” a bit if you’re just hunting for rare Pokémon by Catch Comboing a common Pokémon on one route, then going to a route with rarer Pokémon and hunting until you find something powerful, like a Chansey!
  • If you’re sitting on a high Combo and are just looking for a shiny or a rare, try hard not to get into any encounters. You can flee encounters with Pokémon not part of your Combo, but if you accidentally encounter one that is in your combo, you’d better catch it, or you’ll lose all your hard work.

What Is A Catch Combo

Each time you consecutively capture the same species of Pokemon, a combo counter will start to appear, and chaining together combos has hidden benefits. Here’s how to keep your Catch Combo going.

  • Catch any Pokemon to start – for example, a Geodude. The more common that Pokemon, the easier it will be to “chain” it.
  • Avoid every other Pokemon species. If you run into a Pokemon that is different, it will break your Catch Combo Chain.
  • Continue catching the same species of Pokemon.
  • If a Pokemon runs away, your chain will break.
  • As long as you don’t break the chain, you can fly to other areas on the map and still receive the same benefits, detailed below.
  • So far, we believe a chain of 31 is what’s necessary to obtain max benefits.

How To Catch Pokemon

Your favorite cranky old man no longer provides you a catching tutorial in Viridian City. Instead, you get a short overview covering the basics early on, but it doesnt necessarily give you everything you need to know about catching Pokemon in Pokemon Lets GO!

Players familiar with Pokemon GO probably get the general idea, but its a new mechanic for longtime series fans. You see two circles, one static, and one colored circle inside it that moves inward. Your goal is, of course, to lob the ballusing the A button, the PokeBall Plus, or the throwing motion, depending on your controller setup.

But you need to make sure the Pokemon stays within the static circle, and your throw is timed so the ball hits the Pokemon when the colored circle is at its smallest. Do that, and you earn an Excellent throw slightly off timing gives you great, and anything else is just a normal catch. Pokemon GO players should also be aware there isnt a Curve Throw in Lets GO!

Pokemon Let’s Go Candy

Pikachu Images: Pokemon Lets Go Pikachu Shiny Growlithe

The end result is you’ll have a lot of the same kind of Pokemon. But that’s okay! Like in Pokemon GO, players use duplicates to earn candy. However, candy in here is a bit different.

Instead of using it for evolution purposes, you’ll actually use candy to boost your Pokemons’ stats, similar to how the health products like Protein and Carbos were used in earlier games. It’s a much more affordable way to raise your Pokemons’ stats, so you can tackle some of the game’s more difficult challenges.

It’s deceptively simple on the surface, but there’s a lot going on in Pokemon Let’s GO! Stay tuned for more guide coverage, and let us know how you’re enjoying the game in the comments!

Why Do I Want To Get Catch Combos

Catch Combos are fantastic if you want to level up your Pokémon, or encounter some incredibly rare ones. By achieving high Catch Combos, you can increase your chances of finding rare Pokémon in the wild, shiny Pokémon, or strong Pokémon.

As you reach certain thresholds of Catch Combos, you’ll notice the Pokémon appearing around you on the map start to change. Pokémon that were previously rare will begin to spawn more often, and you may even see super-rare spawns, such as the three original starter Pokémon , or others such as Snorlax, Charizard, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, or even a Dragonite.

The majority of the benefits from Catch Combos cap out at a combo of 31 or higher, so once you reach that level you don’t need to chain any further.

Pokemon Lets Go Catch Bonuses

What the tutorials dont tell you about in detail, though, is Pokemon Lets GO! catch bonuses, the multiplier effect. Pokemon Lets GO! doles out experience for catches based on many different factors.

  • First Throw: You caught a Pokemon on your first try
  • New Pokemon: Pretty self-explanatory
  • Excellent Throw: Your aim was spot-on
  • Great Throw: Not spectacular, but a bonus is a bonus
  • Tiny: Caught a tiny Pokemon
  • Huge: Caught a giant Pokemon
  • Catch Combo: This catch was part of your catch chain
  • Technique: You used the Joy-Con or PokeBall Plus, i.e., motion controls

These bonuses really come in handy for a variety of reasons. Youll find you dont gain quite as much experience from trainer battles, and what you do gain doesnt divide evenly between your party Pokemon. But, experience from catching does, and with the right bonuses, you can level up all six Pokemon with one catch. For example, catching a level 6, huge Kakuna for the first time with an Excellent throw netted over 100 experience points.

Of course, level bonuses don’t scale as you grow. That level 6 Kakuna isn’t quite so astounding when your party level average is around 20 as it was back in Viridian Forest at level 6 or 7.

How Do I Break A Catch Combo

Catch Combos are surprisingly hard to break. You don’t have to worry about losing your streak by doing things such as going to town to buy more Poké Balls, battling trainers, or changing routes. There are only three activities that can cause you to lose a Catch Combo. They are:

  • Capturing a Pokémon that isn’t part of your Catch Combo. For example, if you have a Catch Combo of 10 on a Spearow, catching a Rattata will break it
  • Encountering a Pokémon that is part of your Catch Combo, and either fleeing from it, or having it flee from you
  • Saving and quitting the game

Doing anything else is fair game, so feel free to hold onto a Catch Combo as you change routes, so long as you don’t try to capture something else!

Pokemon: Let’s Go Catch Combos Improve Chances Of Catching Shiny Pokemon

Pokemon Let

Pokemon Let’s Go: Pikachu and Pokemon Let’s Go: Eevee are the first instalments of the list of Pokemon RPG games for the Nintendo Switch platform. Both the versions hit the stores on 16 November 2018 and feature deep integration with Pokemon Go – the AR-focused mobile game.

The company behind the franchise has confirmed that Shiny Pokemon will feature in both the versions however, the odds of finding one right away are remarkably low. Shiny Pokemon are just like regular Pokemon and offer no additional benefits during battle, but the subtle change in their appearance makes them a favourite among Pokemon trainers.

Nevertheless, despite the extremely low odds of encountering a Shiny Pokemon, one could still get their hands on one of these coveted creatures by performing a couple of actions.

Performing catch combos is the most effective way to boost your odds of encountering a rare Shiny Pokemon. Catch combo is a unique mechanism that is present in both the Pokemon Let’s Go games that keep track of the number of times an individual as captured the same creature. For instance, capturing Weedle successively six times gives the player a catch combo of value 6.

It is observed that the maximum chances of capturing a Shiny Pokemon occur when the player has a catch combo of 31 or higher.

Pokmon Let’s Go Catching Explained

As you’ll have noticed by now, catching in Pokémon Let’s Go doesn’t work like previous mainline games, instead operating much more closely – almost identically, in fact – to Pokémon Go .

Catching Pokémon in Let’s Go explained

Once you’re in the catching phase – normally triggered by walking into the wild Pokémon you see roaming around the world – the simplest explanation is that you need to throw a Poké Ball with the right accuracy and timing, so that it hits the Pokémon on the inside of the coloured, closing circle.

You’ll notice the circle itself has several possible colours, too: green, yellow, orange or red. These indicate the chance you have of the Pokémon successfully being caught .

How to improve your chances of catching Pokémon

The starting colour of the ring will change from one species of Pokémon to the next, and likewise between higher and lower levels of the same type of Pokémon. A Lvl. 1 Meowth, for instance, will always have a green circle because it’ll be dead easy to catch a Lvl. 50 Meowth will probably start with a darker-coloured one because it’s much tougher, and tougher Pokémon than that – like Legendaries, for instance – will likely always have a red circle.

While that circle’s colour is dictated primarily by the species and level of the Pokémon in question, then, there are still several things you can do to increase your chances:

How To Hunt Shiny Pokmon In Pokmon: Lets Go

Players have come to a relative consensus on how finding shiny Pokémon works in Lets Go!, and it requires a lot of patience. And if you want an extra boost, youll also have to become a Pokémon Master first.

Well first recommend a more accessible, well-tested method, however. Most players are having luck chaining catch combos, which are racked up when capturing several of the same species of Pokémon. As your chain increases, so do the odds of finding a shiny Pokémon. Once hitting the maximum combo, 31 , youll now have a one in 341 chance of landing on a shiny. The combo will reset if you exit out to the home menu, break it by catching a different, non-shiny monster or a Pokémon runs away from a fight.

What you have to do then is wait. Either keep catching the same Pokémon over and over until you encounter a shiny version of the type youd like, or just pace around until that shiny appears.

One in 341 still isnt the most encouraging set of odds, but its a whole lot better than the standard probability without chaining catch combos: one in 4,096.

If you have a Shiny Charm in your bag and also follow the catch combo trick, the chances youll find a shiny are even better. One out of 293 Pokémon could be shiny. If you add a Lure, an item that attracts Pokémon, into the mix, you hit the optimal number, which is one in 273.

How Catch Combos Work In Pokemon Let’s Go

Okay, so, before we get down to the rewards for this new system, let’s just define how a streak works and how it can be broken. There’d be nothing worse than breaking a catch combo accidentally and having to start over to get the benefits and rewards from the combo – so let’s lay it out nice and simple in that time-honored tradition, a list.

  • Your Catch Combo builds each time you catch the same Pokemon in a row.
  • The catch combo chain can be broken by the following:
  • Running from one of the Pokemon species you’re currently in a combo for
  • Letting a Pokemon run away from you, which happens if you take too long to catch it.
  • Catching a Pokemon of a different species to the one you’re currently chaining
  • Saving and exiting the game
  • To be clear, your catch combo is retained when you move from area to area, and that makes matters rather intersting in terms of rewards – more on that in a second.
