The first, and easiest, way to evolve Eevee into its evolutions is whats known as the nickname trick. Trainers can guarantee any of Eevees evolutions in Pokemon Go once each using this Eevee nickname method.
Simply nicknaming your Eevee one of the special names will grant trainers the Eeveelution of their choice. Use 25 Eevee candy and your Eevee will evolve to the evolution with the corresponding nickname.
- Vaporeon: Rainer
- Glaceon: Rea

Unlike some of the others, Niantic hasnt changed the evolution method for these three and its simply a case of having 25 Eevee Candies, hitting the evolve button and hoping for the best.
The only other option relies on players not having used the naming trick, which is highly unlikely as it was discovered over five years ago.
However, for those who havent, used the trick yet, its simple. Naming your Eevee either Pyro, Sparky or Rainer and then evolving it will cause it to evolve into either Flareon, Jolteon or Vaporeon respectively.
Just remember, this is a one-time use deal, so use it wisely.

The shiny Eevees are out in force for Pokemon GOs Eevee Community Day, giving trainers around the world a shot at that elusive prize: a full collection of all 9 Eevee family shinies. But if you want to get Flareon, Jolteon, Vaporeon, Umbreon, Espeon, Leafeon, Sylveon and Eevee, youll need to make use of a couple of tricks to make it happen. Heres how to do that. Ive published some of this info before, but it never hurts to have a refresher.
The simplest way of getting a specific evolution is to just change your Pokemons nickname. Each evolution has a nickname tied to it, and you can use that to guarantee a single evolution. So if youve already used this trick on a given account, it wont work again. So while this will likely be less useful for most, here are those:
- Flareon: Pyro
- Glaceon: Rea
- Sylveon: Kira
After that, most of the evolutions have an alternate, more involved method for forcing the evolution. Here are those:
- Flareon, Jolteon, Vaporeon: These ones are pure RNG, so best of luck.
- Umbreon: Walk an Eevee 10km as your buddy, then evolve it at night while its still your buddy. Update: this requires no walking distance during community day, just equip as your buddy at night and evolve.
Name Trick Method For Evolving Eevee Into Espeon
One of the two ways that Pokemon GO trainers can turn their Eevee into an Espeon is by using a naming trick that was discovered quite some time ago. By changing Eevee’s name to Sakura, it’ll automatically turn into Espeon once it has been fed 25 Eevee Candies.

To change the name of a Pokemon, players will want to go into the Pokemon’s profile and then hit the pencil icon by its current name. This will allow for the changing of a Pokemon’s nickname. It’s worth noting that this trick will only work one time per evolution type, meaning that players will not be able to get multiple Espeon’s from this exploit. Make sure to pick the perfect Eevee with the best stats before the decision is made.
Once the nickname has been changed, players will need to select the Evolve option in the Pokemon’s data screen. Pokemon GO will then make the player confirm the evolution, and then the Espeon will be there to greet them. Of course, trainers can always change the nickname to something else or just name it Espeon, depending on how they play. Changing Sakura to anything else will not cancel out the evolution or somehow revert the Espeon back into an Eevee.

How To Get And Use The Glacial Lure & Mossy Lure To Get Glaceon And Leafeon
The final current Eeveelutions available in Pokemon Go are Glaceon and Leafeon, and this duo has the most specific evolution method yet.
First of all, don’t forget that you can do the name trick once again to get Glaceon and Leafeon for the first time. As detailed above, name your Eevee Rea to have it evolve to Glaceon, and name your Eevee Linnea to have it evolve to Leafeon. After that, however, you’ll need to fulfil special requirements to evolve more of these Pokemon.
Specifically, in order to evolve more Eevee into Glaceon or Leafeon, you’ll need some new items: the Glacial Lure and the Mossy Lure. These two new types of Lure Module are available in the shop and will soon be appearing as Field Research Rewards. These lures exist to make you more able to catch different Pokemon – the Glacial lures in Water and Ice type Pokemon, while the Mossy attracts Bug and Grass types.
There’s an added benefit to these, however: when they’re placed, they can impact Eevee Evolution. Simply place one of the lures in a Pokestop if you place the Mossy Lure you’ll be able to evolve any Eevee you have into Leafeon while standing in that Pokestop’s radius . If you place the Glacial Lure on a Pokestop, that’s when you’ll be able to evolve into Glaceon – just remain within the Pokestop’s radius. This works even if you didn’t place the lure, too, so you can share this chance with other players.
How To Evolve Using Nicknames To Guarantee Your Choice Of Eevee Evolution
If you evolve an Eevee ‘raw’ by spending 25 candy, it’ll just evolve into one of the different available evolutions at random. However, you can actually force a specific evolution by renaming your Eevee of choice to a special nickname – and the whole thing began as an easter egg nod to a classic set of Eevee evolutions found in the Pokemon anime TV show.
So, basically, all you have to do is rename your Eevee to a specific name and then evolve it the regular way by spending 25 candy. Here are the names and the Eevee Evolutions:

An important note about this little cheat: it only works once per Eevee Evolution. Once you’ve renamed one Eevee as Tamao to get Umbreon, for instance, you’ll only be able to get another Umbreon through ‘natural’ means – with that exact method depending on the eeveelution in question. This is why you should check your CP values and IV values before evolving an Eevee – make sure it’s a good one, as you only get one shot.

How To Catch Eevee In Pokemon Sword And Shield
So you can acquire an Eevee in Pokemon Sword and Shield in more than one way. The first, which weve already briefly mentioned, is to actually own Pokemon Lets Go Eevee and have a save file of it on your Switch. If you do, youll be able to pick up the Gigantamax Eevee from one of two trainers in the Wild Area train station by the Meetup Spot.
However, if youre just looking out for your average Eevee, weve got some good news. Sure, its not going to be as adorably fluffy as the Gigantamax version that you can get, but theyre actually not super difficult to find in the wild. Our recommendation would be to head straight for Route 4 after arriving from Wedgehurst and to just start running around until you spot them scampering around.
Take your time to head back and forth between the areas til an Eevee makes its presence known, then proceed how you normally would when it comes to catching any other Pokemon. The table above shows that Espeon, Glaceon, and Vaporeon have the highest max XP while Espeon and Glaceon have high attacks. Vaporeon has the highest stamina and it is also the evolution most players would point to as being the strongest. It is a solid water-type that rivals a lot of the harder-to-get Pokemon and is only outclassed by Pokemon like Kyogre and Gyarados.
Leafeon and Glaceon are both solid in several scenarios, especially if you dont have a better grass-type or ice-type. They can do a decent amount of damage and take some hits, making them a solid pick for raids and certain team compositions. Umbreon, despite its low attacks, is very good defensively.
Flareon, Jolteon, and Espeon, on the other hand, are all outclassed by a good chunk of Pokemon of their type and dont offer much to mitigate the stat deficits against the likes of Entei, Zapdos, or Mewtwo. Once Sylveon is added to Pokemon Go it might take the crown as the best overall Eeveeloution.

How To Evolve Umbreon & Espeon In Pokemon Go
Unlike the previous evolutions, however, Umbreon and Espeon dont evolve from Eevee at random, requiring specific actions to get them.
- Espeon: For the Psychic-type, youll need to make Eevee your Buddy and walk 10km with them. After this, the mons Evolve button should show the silhouette of Espeon during the day.
- Umbreon: This method is almost identical for Umbreon, except you need to evolve the Pokemon at night.

How To Evolve Into Espeon And Umbreon
The first time you want to get your hands on Espeon and Umbreon, you can use the name trick detailed above. Evolve an Eeevee called Tamao to get an Umbreon, or an Eevee named Sakura to evolve it into Espeon. After that, you’ll need to evolve them the old-fashioned way, by completing certain goals.
For Espeon and Umbreon, you can also evolve into them based on their in-game method of evolution in Pokemon Gold and Silver back on the Game Boy – based on the time of day. In order to do this, you’ll first need to build a relationship with your Eevee. Set them as your buddy Pokemon and walk with them as much as you can.
Once you’ve walked 10km with that Eevee as your buddy Pokemon, it’s ready to evolve into either Epseon or Umbreon. Just evolve in the day for Espeon and night for Umbreon – and this isn’t limited, you can do it as often as you like!
