Joining A Raid Battle
Raid battles are arguably Pokemon Gos biggest feature. Once you hit level 20, you can access raid events in which a powerful Boss Pokemon appears at certain times of the day. If there’s a raid happening close to you, you get a notification and have the chance to join. But if you walk right up to a gym, youll be disappointed when the bouncer at the door asks for a Raid Pass or Premium Raid Pass and you don’t have one. These can be gotten by going to a gym and spinning the photo disc. Only one raid pass can be used per day, otherwise, you need to purchase a Premium Raid Pass from the shop to participate in raid battles more often.
How To Choose Your Buddy
You can select a Pokemon to travel alongside you. Does it actually walk with you on the main screen? No, but it does stand next to you in the profile screen and a little icon displaying your chosen Pokemon shows up next to your avatar icon on the field.To actually select a buddy Pokemon, you need to tap on the picture of your Trainer in the lower left corner of the main screen. Then tap on the Menu button on the lower left. Tap on the Buddy icon between the Journal and Customize options. Then, tap on the Pokemon you want as your Buddy.Note: On the Pokemon screen, you’ll see a speech bubble icon next to the Pokemon you chose as your Buddy, so you can keep track of what you’re Pokemon are up to.

However, considering both a resource-driven, with powering up requiring Stardust and evolution typically needing a significant amount of candies, it may not be clear when to enact these mechanics for a given Pokemon. Trainers may wonder if they should power up a Pokemon before evolving it or vice versa. How Do You Get Enough Stardust To Power Up Your Pokmon
To power up you need more Candy but you also need Stardust. Stardust is generic. You can use any Stardust you got from any source on any Pokémon you want. The amount you need starts small but grows as you get to higher levels. So, how do you get as much Candy and Stardust as possible to power up as much as possible?
- 100 Stardust per base-level Pokémon caught in the wild.
- 300 Stardust per second-level Pokémon caught in the wild.
- 500 Stardust per third-level Pokémon caught in the wild.
- 500-1500 Stardust per 2 KM Egg hatched.
- 1000-2100 Stardust per 5KM Egg hatched.
- 1600-3200 Stardust per 10 KM Egg hatched.
- 500 Stardust per Pokémon, per Gym, per 21 hours.
To evolve a Magikarp into a Gyarados takes 400 Dratini Candy. To power up a Gyarados to over 3000 CP could take another 112 Magikarp Candy and 120,500 Stardust or more.
To evolve a Dratini into Dragonair and Dragonite takes 125 Dratini Candy. To power up a Dragonite to over 3000 CP could take another 70 Dratini Candy and 80,000 Stardust or more.
So, catch, hatch, walk, and claim as much Candy and Stardust as you can.
A Note About Evolving Eevees
Unlike in the main Pokémon video games, which require you to give Eevee a special elemental stone to evolve it into either Flareon , Vaporeon , Jolteon , Umbreon , or Espeon , Pokémon Go randomizes your Eevee evolution. However, there is a trick to evolving your Eevee into what you want it to be. By naming your Eevee one the names of the Eevee characters in the Pokémon anime series Sparky , Rainer , Pyro , Sakura , or Tamao you can force them to evolve into the Eeveelution corresponding with their nicknames element. The naming trick only works once, so if you already got a Vaporeon by naming it Rainer, you wont be able to get a second using the name. A separate trick lets you evolve Eevees reliably into either Umbreon or Espeon. It requires you make the Eevee you want to evolve your buddy. You then need to walk 10 km with that Eevee and earn three Eevee candies while doing so. Finally, while the Eevee is still your buddy, evolve it if you do the evolution during daylight hours, youll get an Espeon at night, an Umbreon.
One more thing: Transferring Pokémon is not reversible. You wont be able to get transferred Pokémon back. Only deposit the weaker extras of the same Pokémon, and hold on to your strongest one.

When Defending A Gym Get Free Stuff
Now that you’ve got a Pokemon defending a gym, go to the in-game Shop, tap the Shield icon and get free Coins and Stardust. Coins are in-game currency that you can use to buy items like Pokeballs, Potions, and even bigger item bags. You can also buy coins with real-world money! What, did you think there were no micro-transactions in innocent little Pokémon Go? Of course, the only real way to play for free is to acquire Coins by assigning a Pokemon to defend a gym. Pressing the Shield will get you 10 coins and 500 Stardust per each Pokemon of yours defending that gym. However, you need to wait 21 hours before you can tap the Shield again! So be sure to defend the gym, or place Pokemon in multiple gyms! Ah, don’t you love Energy mechanics in mobile games?
Get Swole With Mega Evolutions
Pokemon Go has new mechanics that add depth to the gameplay. With Mega Evolutions, select Pokemon can become more powerful versions of themselves for a limited amount of time.

How To Find Legendary And Rare Pokmon
Pokémon Go now has a huge number of Pokémon in the game, spanning various regions and editions of Pokémon. Most are pretty common and will pop up in the wild in various places, but there are several that are harder to come by. One rare Pokémon, Ditto, mimics other Pokémon, so youll sometimes catch a very common Pokémon like Ratata, only for it to transform into a Ditto. To save yourself Stardust and candies, we highly recommend that you hold off on powering up your Pokemon until you have traded them or are sure youre not interested in trading them. Our observation shows that it raised the HP and Defense by 10% after purification. We have placed screenshots of the exact same Pokemon before and after purification. From our experience, Shadow Pokemon can be as low as level 1 and as high as level 30 upon catch. We believe that this means that the algorithm of RGN within the game does not care if the Pokemon is shadow or non-shadow when generating the Pokemon.
#3 Battle and catch as many Shadow Pokemon before purifying. You may find that the Pokemon captured is very good already!

How To Evolve Pokemon In Pokemon Go
Evolving Pokemon in Pokemon Go is just as easy as powering up them up. Heres how you do it:
- On the Pokemon stat page, youll see the Evolve button underneath the Power Up button. When you have enough Candy, press that button, confirm your selection, and watch the animation.
- Most Pokemon will require between 12 and 100 Candy in order to evolve. There are exceptions, including Magikarp, which requires 400 Magikarp Candy to evolve into a Gyrados.
- In general, Pokemon with three stages of evolution will require less Candy per evolution than a two stage evolution . However, three-stage evolution Pokemon will usually cost more candy to get to the final evolution than a two-stage will.
- You get 1000XP for evolving any Pokemon.
- Most Pokemon have a fairly simple and standard evolution process. Eevee is the only exception as it can evolve into three different Pokemon. specifically on evolving Eevee!
How To Get Mega Energy In Pokmon Go
To Mega Evolve your Pokémon, youll have to collect Mega Energy for that specific Pokémon. Find Mega Pokémon in Mega Raids, take them on, and earn Mega Energy for that specific Pokémon. The faster you beat them, the more Mega Energy youll be rewarded.
It will take multiple raids of the same Pokémon before youll have enough energy to Mega Evolve, and most Mega Evolutions rotate in and out of raids. Not all Mega Evolutions will be available year-round, so make sure to stock up on any Mega Energy you want before the Pokémon leaves Mega Raids.
You can also get Mega Energy from some Field Research and Timed Research Tasks as rewards.

Does It Make A Difference To Cp If You Feed Candies Before Or After Evolving
When activating the evolution for a caught Pokemon, it seems to amplify the Combat Power . Thus it seems most beneficial to evolve your Pokemon with the highest CP, if you have multiple of the same kind.
But what I am not sure about is whether it makes an efficiency difference if you spend candies and dust to boost CP before evolving, to gain more from the amplification? Or is it more efficient to just evolve without spending, and then using the leftover candies afterwards, since they now give a bigger CP boost per candy?
I only tested with a Rattata so far, which gained +8 CP per candy before evolving, and +15 CP afterwards. I collected no numbers on the amplification efficiency though, and now ran out of materials for further testing.
Or maybe it is a balanced calculation and makes no difference at all? I would love to have some insight on that.
Some data I collected thus far:
79 CP Weedle evolved to:84 CP Kakuna , evolved at 90 CP to:297 CP Beedrill
Note: The max-CP “half circle” in the profile stayed filled roughly at the same relative position throughout the evolutions.
When you evolve a Pokemon, its CP circle stays as full as it did before.
As a result, it really doesn’t matter in which order you boost a Pokemon. However, you should keep a few points in mind:
- Powerups cost more Candies the more CP a Pokemon has .
- Powerups cost more Stardust the more CP a Pokemon has .
Cost will increase every second powerup.
There is no difference.
It should make no difference at all.
How To Evolve Pokmon And How To Power Up
Powering up and evolving Pokémon requires in-game resources known as Stardust and Candy. Stardust is a shared resource you receive for each Pokémon you catch, for storing Pokémon at Gyms and leveling up, while Candy is an item specific to that species – so Pikachu Candy, Pidgey Candy and so on. In short, the more Pokémon of one type you catch, the more Candy you get to power up and evolve that species in its family, so it’s well worth catching those low level Pidgeys to get that eventual Pidgeot evolution. How Does Battling Work
Fighting in Pokemon Go is a bigger mess than Brock’s love life. You’re supposed to be able to swipe left and right to dodge the incoming attacks of opposing Pokemon. How To Make Friends And Trade Pokmon
New to Pokémon Go is the ability to trade Pokémon with friends a feature players have been clamoring for. Trading is a complicated system, though, and requires you to put in a lot of effort to make it work.
First, theres a new Friend tab on your Trainer menu, which allows you to add friends using a Friend Code. You can add friends regardless of physical proximity if you have the code, and you can interact with them in some ways even if theyre not around to play with. Your capabilities with friends is determined by your Friendship Level the higher the level, the better, specifically for trading Pokémon.
You can only trade Pokémon with people youve added to your friend list, and they have to be physically close to you in order for the trade to happen. Trades will also cost you Stardust, but making trades earns you candies for the Pokémon type you trade. Common Pokémon you already have in your Pokédex are relatively cheap and easy to trade, but Legendary Pokémon and Pokémon you dont have in your Pokédex already require Special trades, and you can only execute one of those per day.
When To Power Up A Pokmon
Lets talk about when to power up a Pokemon. All Pokémon have movesets they gain when they evolve, consisting of one fast move and one charge move. When it comes to types and quality of movesets, some movesets are purely better than others, some are better for attacking gyms or defending them.
For the best movesets of each Pokemon I will again be using PokeStats, as it lists all movesets and their ranking for both attacking and defending gyms.
Lets say you have two different Lapras. One is 1700 CP and has Ice Shard and Blizzard, which is 88% as good as the best defensive moveset for Lapras. The other has Ice Shard and Ice Beam, which is the best defensive moveset for Lapras, except this Lapras has 1100 CP.
Powering up the Lapras with the best moveset will cost significantly more stardust and Lapras candies than the higher CP Lapras with the good, but less damaging, moveset.
My advice is to see how many candies and stardust you are willing to spend to get the better moveset. IVs do factor in as well, but arent nearly as important as moveset.
Moveset will determine more than anything how well your Pokemon does in battle whether that be attacking or defending. If you dont have IOS or dont want the app, check out Game Presss moveset grades to see which movesets are best for attacking and defending for each Pokemon.
