SHOULD I POWER UP OR EVOLVE MY POKÉMON FIRST? (Pokémon GO)

As detailed earlier, candy is used to evolve and power up Pokemon and is additionally a species-specific resource – a Pidgey candy is different to a Squirtle candy or a Zubat candy, and so it’s fairly difficult to save up the necessary amounts.

Thanks to its species-specific trappings, obtaining candy is all about individual Pokemon. You’ll obtain some candy for its species when you catch a Pokemon, and likewise for hatching – though hatched Pokemon will always offer up more candy than those caught in the wild.

Candy can also be obtained by transferring unwanted Pokemon back to the professor by clicking on them, scrolling down and hitting transfer. This only offers up one candy per Pokemon, but it’s better than a useless Pokemon clogging up your menus. Just be careful not to transfer anything useful or wanted!

Candy is spent on powering up and evolving Pokemon. Compared to stardust powering up is cheap, costing only one candy per power boost. Evolving is more expensive with the cost varying depending on the breed of Pokemon, but expect to pay as much as 15, 25, 50 or even more candy to evolve a Pokemon into its next powerful form.

Is it better to Power Up or Evolve your Pokémon first?

Evolving a Pokémon will have its move set randomized again. It could turn out to be stronger or weaker for that species. So I would not recommend to power up a Pokémon until you have a fully evolved Pokémon with a move set that you like. Also make sure that it has a strong IV which will directly affect the Pokémons battling capabilities.

What You Should Know About Evolutions In Pokmon Go

As with Powering Up, there are some important things to bear in mind for evolving your Pokémon.

  • Evolving is one of the main ways you can earn a large amount of XP over a short period of time to level up quickly, and so if you happen to have a spare Lucky Egg, you might want to hold back on evolving – saving those Pidgeys, Caterpies, and Weedles in particular.
  • Generally, you want to completely avoid evolving in the early game unless you’re using that Lucky Egg strategy. You can’t battle Gyms until Level 5, and can’t reasonably get any Pokémon that could actually challenge a Gym until the Level 10-15 mark. As tempting as it can be to get that first one under your belt, because you’ll likely catch stronger Pokémon as you Level up as a Trainer anyway, it really is best to wait.
  • A Pokémon’s IVs – or natural strength or potential – stay the same after it has evolved.
  • A Pokémon’s moves are randomised each time it evolves, and can’t be changed in any other way.
  • You should always evolve a Pokémon fully when you can – so, a Geodude all the way through Graveler to a Golem – because otherwise the time it takes to earn another 100 Candy for your respective Pokémon will likely see you level up enough to catch a higher Level version. Waiting to do it in one go saves you the time and resources it would cost to Power Up a low-Level Pokémon to the same Level as one you’ve caught later on.

Power Up/ Evolve: The Correct Order

Evolving a Pokemon will greatly change its stats. You dont have to power up your Pokemon to its maximum CP to evolve it, but its not clear whether we should power up then evolve, or evolve then power up for the Pokemon to reach its maximum strength. If you evolve then power up, you will not have to take the risk of having a Pokemon with a bad move, therefore you wont waste any StarDust and Candy. But some people say if you dont power up your Pokemon to its maximum CP, you wont be able to bring out its maximum ability. Its not clear which order you should take at present since theres too many information.SummaryJust when the game was released, it was said that the size of the Pokemon directly relates to its strength, and it would be best to look for a double XL Pokemon. It was also said that if you dont fully power up your Pokemon when evolving, its size will become XS. But at present, the general idea is that powering up your Pokemon before evolving doesnt have any affect. Now, we know that the Pokemons strength is dependent on its individual value, and its individual value wont change after evolving. As for a conclusion, the most efficient way to grow your Pokemon would be to know your Pokemons individual value, evolve a Pokemon with a good individual value, and if it learns a good move, then power up the Pokemon.

How To Find The Best Wild Pokmon

Should I power up this Pound/Dazzling Gleam Blissey?

Pokémon Go wants you to get up on your feet and venture into the real world by spreading different kinds of Pokémon around loosely based on your real-life location. In town, grass- and normal-type Pokémon will often appear. If you go near water or out at night, however, youre likely to encounter water-based and psychic Pokémon Theres an element of randomness involved as well: Sometimes water Pokémon appear in locations without water nearby, so what you find is not entirely based on your geographical location.

Checking your local parks is a must, because Niantic often uses these to create nests of specific types of Pokémon. In a nest, Pokémon will appear much more frequently. The location of nests and the Pokémon in them rotate over time, though, so get what you need quick. You never know when a Dratini nest might suddenly turn into a Pikachu nest.

Pokemon Go: How Levelling Up And Evolution Works

Is it better to POWER UP or EVOLVE the Pokemon first? Pokemon Go Guide

In traditional Pokemon games on the Game Boy and DS, fans are used to gaining specifically numbered amounts of experience and levelling up an equally obvious numbered level. In Pokemon Go things aren’t quite so simple: The primary measurement of a Pokemon’s strength is its Combat Power .

CP is determined by a number of factors behind-the-scenes including a Pokemon’s hidden level, how much it has been powered up and other hidden factors as detailed on other pages in our guide.

There’s two key ways to make a Pokemon more powerful. One is to evolve it into a more advanced form of its type, which isn’t available for every single Pokemon as all evolutionary lines have an end. The other is to power up the Pokemon, which based on stats behind-the-scenes will boost a Pokemon. Evolution and power-ups will raise a Pokemon’s CP, health, and other hidden stats used in battle.

Evolving Pokemon costs candy, and powering up a Pokemon costs a combination of candy and stardust.

How To Assess Your Pokmons Strengths

As we mentioned earlier, every Pokémon in the game has individual values for attack, defense, and stamina that dictate how powerful it can become over time. If you are curious about how strong your Pokémon can become, you can have your Pokémon appraised by your factions gym leader, which will generate a message based on their individual values.

To appraise a Pokémon, tap the button in the bottom center of the screen.

Then, tap the button labeled Pokémon.

This will bring up all the Pokémon you own. Click on the Pokémon you want to appraise.

Next, tap the button in the bottom right of the screen to bring up a list of options.

Choose Appraise. Your faction leader will appear and give you a description of your Pokémon. For example, if you are on Team Mystic, Blanche might say, Overall, your Charmander has certainly caught my attention, or, Overall, your Squirtle is not likely to make much headway in battle.

While they dont offer a comprehensive breakdown, your faction leader will make a pair of comments based your Pokémons individual values. The first statement, which gauges its overall potential, is based on the sum of its three values. There are three stats, each of which ranges from zero to 15, so the total value can range from zero to 45.

So, what exactly do these qualitative statements mean? The game itself does not make them clear, but sites like GamePress seem to have figured out the underlying math.

Which Stat Is Most Important In Pokemon Go

While IVs are important and play a vital role when trying to find competitive Pokemon, base stats are objectively more important. Each species of Pokemon have different base stats which are made up of the aforementioned attack, defense, and stamina. Every single species of Pokemon has exactly the same base stats.

Jonesing for a Vaporeon? Then call it Rainer. This may not work all the time, however it’s an almost-guaranteed way to evolve one of your Eevees, but this weird method may not work 100 percent of the time.
