Opening Pokemon Cards! MEWTWO STRIKES BACK – EVOLUTION Collection Chest!

In Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back the makers have used the CGI technique to tell us the same story. At times it felt as though this was footage taken from one of those video game devicesyou know that scene where Ash, Misty, and Brock .

The aim no doubt would have been to improve the visuals. They succeeded in this aspect with respect to the scenery, the tears and the Pokemon attacks. Some Pokemon did benefit with this feature whilst they were alone on screen.

Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolutions CGI falls flat in the case of some Pokemon. Pinsir, Electabuzz, Belsprout, Drowzee all look like amusement park mascots. I make the above comment with sincere apologies to the designers of mascot costumes at amusement parks. Well, at least those costumes are an apt representation of the character. Here only Pikachu had discernible fur, but the Gyarados scales felt artificial.

The battle between the Pokemon and the clones felt like a cosplay brawl and I completely zoned out. Zoning out at the climax took away the connection the makers expected the audience to build towards the characters. And now that tear jerking moment wasnt as impactful. This wasnt because I knew it was going to happen. The brutality just wasnt there as part of the build up to make us invest in the sacrifice.

Mewtwo Is A Tough Post

In the Generation I games, Mewtwo feels like the final boss. Its located in Cerulean Cave, which is only accessible after the player has defeated the Elite Four and the Champion. At level 70, it can be a tough test for any trainer, but as its post-game, chances are that the players Pokémon will be at a relatively comparable level.

With the original 151 Pokémon, Mewtwo stood out as the clear strongest, both as a Pokémon in general and as a Legendary. The title of strongest Legendary Pokémon would become steadily more unclear as more and more Legendaries were introduced, but this exact moment of facing Mewtwo at the end of the Generation I games felt like a big deal and still does.

Original: Introduction Of New Pokmon

In the Pokémon anime timeline, the events in Mewtwo Strikes Back take place during Ashs journey through the first region, Kanto. At the time of the original release, there was only a fraction of the total number of Pokémon that we know today. However, the original movie was strategically used to introduce some new faces into the franchise.

For example, during Ashs first battle of the movie, his opponent sends out Donphan, a Pokémon from Generation IIs Johto Region. This was a very clever way to make fans curious and excited about the next generation.

Mewtwo Versus Mew Was A Fierce And Destructive Showdown

As the names suggest, Mewtwo is a clone of Mew, but that doesnt mean theyre the same. While Mew may be small in stature, Mewtwo has a more hulking physique. Their showdown in Mewtwo Strikes Back, with them leading original Pokémon versus clones in battle, showcases the sheer ferocity and power of both Pokémon.

Unable to contain their rage and offensive might, Ash ends up getting in the way, briefly sacrificing himself. This seemed to be the only way to stop the conflict, as Mewtwos drive and intent were being fueled at full force by a desire to test its power.

Set of 12 Topps Pokemon the Movie 2000 & Mewtwo Strikes ...

Pokemon recently experimented with its film franchise in a major way with the first completely 3D CG animated film hitting theaters in Japan last year. But rather than be an entirely original project, this experimental film was instead a complete remake of the very first movie ever released, Mewtwo Strikes Back . While there were a few notable changes to the original film for the remake, it was largely a faithful retelling of the original film. This even comes down to complete recreations of scenes, and now fans have a great example of how.

In this side by side comparison video from Clau World, fans can see the opening credits sequences of Mewtwo Strikes Back EVOLUTION and see how much, yet how little has been changed from the original film released in 1998. Check it out in the video above and see how many changes you can spot .

Pokemon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back EVOLUTION was an anniversary celebration of the Pokemon film franchise that fans in the United States may never actually get to officially see for themselves. Released last July in Japan, there was a mystery as to if the film would actually be a full remake until it premiered.

Pokmon And The Understanding Of French Dvds

When I was young, my mother bought my siblings and me a triple pack of Pokémon DVDs. We were incredibly obsessed with the franchise. So much so, it quickly became an integral part of our childhood, as it was for many others. My brother, being the eldest, would play the classic titles on GameBoy first. Then, once he was done, he would pass down his Pokémon wisdom to my younger sister and me. Suffice to say, we were ecstatic that we had Pokémon DVDs! Unfortunately, there was a catch. You see, all three of the DVDs were in French. This wouldnt have been an issue if there had been English subtitles. Alas, there wasnt.

Surprisingly, I have fond memories of our French copies. To this day, I have never watched them in English and have no intention of doing so. I distinctly remember enjoying the incomprehensible French Pokémon movies, more so over the extremely popular Pokémon: The First Movie. For reference, I watched that one in English. So, when I heard that a remake of the first Pokémon movie was coming out, I reacted as one would to Nintendo re-releasing yet another of their titles.

When Team Rocket and their scientists have Mewtwo captured for the purpose of experimentation and abusing its raw power in Mewtwo Strikes Back, Mewtwo eventually manages to break out of the facility. But this is no ordinary prison escape: Mewtwo obliterates everything, resulting in an explosion that wipes out everyone on site.

With it being at the start of the movie, this instantly showcases Mewtwos power, particularly its Psychic capabilities. Mewtwo was able to decimate everything while Giovanni looked on from the safety of his helicopter.

Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Cgi Remake Gets Its First Trailer

When The Pokemon Company released Pokemon: The Power of Us last year, it was accompanied by the announcement of a new movie called Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution. Details were fairly light at the time, but now a new trailer is shedding more light on the nature of this upcoming Pokemon film. It seems that Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution will be a CGI remake of Pokemon: The First Movie, which premiered more than 20 years ago.

If youve seen Pokemon: The First Movie before, then you know what to expect from the trailer embedded below. The story follows Mewtwo, a superpowered clone of the mythical Pokemon Mew, as he destroys the laboratory he was created in and plots to take revenge on humanity using other cloned Pokemon.

The trailer below mostly centers on the reveal of Mewtwo, but it does offer glimpses at his island hideout and his cloned Venusaur, Blastoise, and Charizard, reinforcing the notion that this indeed a straight CGI remake of the original. The trailer even serves up a quick look at Brock, Misty, Ash, and Nurse Joy in CGI, and personally, they look better than I was expecting them to.

Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution is slated to release in Japan in July. So far, theres been no information concerning a western release for the movie, but the English account did confirm that international details on Mewtwo Stikes Back: Evolution are coming soon. It looks like we will indeed be getting this movie here in North America, we just dont know when yet.

Mewtwo Strikes Backs Biggest Changes To Original Pokmon Movie

Many of these changes are smaller in scale, only noticeable to the diehard Pokémon fans. For example, Team Rocket helps Ash travel through the hurricane in a Lapras speedboat, trading the Viking costumes for sailor suits and a musical number. Also, in Ashs opening battle with his pirate-clad challenger, Pikachu fights a Drowzee instead of a Golem. These are the biggest changes, and theyre hard to spot.

Aside from those, Mewtwo has an additional line at the beginning, when he dreams of Mew and the outside world. I cannot forgive the world where a certain someone flew away from me, Mewtwo says, before waking up to the reality of his existence and relationship to Mew. This new line of dialogue is a nice setup to Mewtwos central conflict. Theres also the omission of the prologue from Pokémon: The Movies Complete Version, or kanzenban. This prologue included a dark storyline where young Mewtwo befriended Ambertwo, Dr. Fujis attempt at cloning his dead daughter. It makes sense that this plotline wouldnt make it to the new movie, but it couldve been an impactful way to update the story for unfamiliar American viewers.

Brocks amazing ability with being able to identify girls being retained was nice. Ideally one needs to thank the director and the editor for keeping elements of the original in the remake.

But without all of thisyou would say that Pokemon would not exist without all of this. And a film cant be looked at if some things are removed. Fair enough. But, the aforementioned things are all that may pacify hardcore fans from crucifying this remake.

There are just too many changes in this film for me to appreciate it.

One of the things that put me off whilst I watched the original on a cartoon channel whilst in school was the extended prologue that didnt feature Ash and friends. They have reduced it in this remake, yet still, this film has a longer run time than the original.

Now, this is questionable and can alienate hardcore fans for presenting an abridged version of the prologue to new audiences yet having other mindless sequences extended. I doubt someone watching Pokemon for the first time would understand the magical Pokemon tears. Are they similar to Phoenix tears from the Harry Potter series? Like what was happening? No doubt, the visual effects in that scene were astounding. Also, the character of Ambertwo has been omitted.

Remake: Drowzee Vs Pikachu

In both the original and remake, Ashs battle with the pirate trainer seems to be a regular match at first glance. However, one of the pirates Pokémon has been swapped out between the original and remake for a very good reason.

In the original, the pirates Golem faces off against Ashs Pikachu. As a ground-type, Golem should hypothetically be able to resist Pikachus Electric attacks, but it was instead defeated by a Thunderbolt. Thankfully, this was easily corrected in the remake by swapping the Ground-type out for the Psychic-type Drowzee.

Plot Pacing And Patience

Opening *NEW* Exclusive Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution Tin w/ RARE POKEMON CARDS INSIDE!

I think my biggest grievance with Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution is its plot. Or, to put it bluntly, the lack thereof. Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution has an unfortunate tendency to rush through important events, character development and necessary exposition. However, unlike the brilliant Dragon Quest: Your Story, it doesnt hurry through its plot at breakneck speeds because it has a lot to say and very little time to say it. Instead, it is quite the opposite. Each event often feels as if theyve come and gone so quickly because theres so little substance in each one.

For example, in the beginning, we witness the cloning of Mewtwo. Mewtwo is angered that he is nothing but an experiment to these doctors and rebels as a result. After eradicating the scientists, Giovanni approaches him and convinces Mewtwo to join forces. However, upon realising that Giovanni is using him for nefarious means, he breaks free and escapes. Unfortunately, these two introductions essentially establish the same character traits and backstory of Mewtwo. Either opening would have worked individually. But as both illustrate the same exposition, it feels like a complete waste of time.
