Porygon’s time to shine is now, as the Pokémon GO Community Day festivities are focused all around the Virtual Pokémon and its evolutions.

Pokémon GO players are rejoicing because this year’s community day is here and ready to offer Porygons to all. The elusive Virtual Pokémon was initially a top ticket prize at the Game Corner in Pokémon Red and Blue and is rarely seen in the wild in any portable mainline adventure. Since Pokémon GO doesn’t have any casinos, the man-made pocket monster usually shows up as a rare hatchling from a 5km egg. However, today only, Porygons are all over the place and ready to be added to everyone’s collections, and that’s not the only even surrounding this old school Normal type.

Porygon won a fan vote in order to become the focus of community day, beating out more popular options like Charmander and Grimer. The little bird-like computer program is not usually a featured player in the overall Pokémon franchise, likely due to its role in an infamous episode of the anime based on the games that gave children seizures in Japan. Interestingly, the official Pokémon Twitter commented on the event recently, saying that “Porygon did nothing wrong.” While a simple tweet likely won’t get the Pokémon back onto the anime, it does show that Porygon still has a role to play in other aspects of the phenomenon.

Keep in mind that youll need an Upgrade to evolve Porygon into Porygon2 and youll need a Sinnoh Stone to turn Porygon2 into Porygon-Z. These evolution items will be provided as rewards from Timed Research available on Sept. 20, so make sure to complete them if you need the items.

If youre deciding which Shiny Porygon to evolve at the end of the day, try using one of the new search strings. Sort your mons by recent using the lower right icon, and then type 4* in the search box at the top. This will let you know if you have any 100% IV Porygon. Most people wont be so lucky, so next youll want to type 3* in the search box, which will show you any recent mons that are 80% or above. Appraise these to see which one is best, and then evolve your new buddy!

In August, Pokemon Go players had the opportunity to vote for the Pokemon they most wanted to see featured in an upcoming Community Day event. Trainers could choose from Porygon, Caterpie, Grimer, and Charmander.

Before the vote was held, we knew that the Pokemon that received the most votes would be featured in Septembers Pokemon Go Community Day event, while the pocket monster that came in second would be the star of Octobers event.

Once the votes were cast, Porygon came out on top, and Charmander took second place.

Now that we know which Pokemon will be featured in the next two events, Niantic, the games developer, revealed more details about Septembers Pokemon Go Community Day.

Porygon has two evolutions. In Pokemon Go, Porygon can be evolved into Porygon2 using 25 Porygon Candy and an Upgrade. Then, Porygon2 can be evolved into Porygon-Z using 100 Porygon Candy and a Sinnoh Stone.

Each time you evolve Porygon2 into Porygon-Z during this event , it will learn the move Tri Attack.

Elsewhere, youll earn three times the normal amount of experience points when you capture Pokemon during Septembers Community Day event, and Niantic encouraged trainers to take some snapshots during this event to receive a surprise.

Since Porygon and Porygon2 require special items to evolve, Niantic will give players a few chances to collect these items this month.
