How to Transfer Pokémon from 3DS Bank to Switch in Pokémon Home

Best answer: Sort of. Nintendo’s new trading and storage cloud service, Pokémon Home, is compatible with Pokémon Sword and Shield. You can transfer Pokémon from your Pokémon Bank account into your Pokémon Home account as long as you pay for the Premium subscription.

The Virtual Console Can Trade To Pokmon Bank

The Pokémon in Pokémon Red & Blue could be traded to Pokémon Gold & Silver, but that was the extent of the trading process, as those games were unable to trade forward to Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire.

It became possible to trade Pokémon forward in 2016, as Pokémon Red, Blue, & Yellow were released for the Virtual Console on Nintendo 3DS. It was also possible to use the Poké Transporter app to transfer Pokémon from the Virtual Console games into Pokémon Bank, which could then be used to transfer them into Pokémon Sun & Moon.

Nintendo Will Remove Credit Card Transfer Options From 3ds Wii U Eshops In January 2022

It appears that Nintendo might be slowly moving away from supporting its older platforms.

Nintendo appears to be moving on from supporting its previous generation of consoles, announcing that certain features would be discontinued for both the Wii U and 3DS systems in January 2022.

This news came from one of Nintendos official Japanese support accounts, which notified users that the Wii U and 3DS would cease accepting credit cards and certain other electronic methods for transferring funds to the eShop.

According to Nintendos support notice, these services will be terminated on Jan. 18, 2022. After that point, no credit cards or similar methods will be available to add funds to your Nintendo Network ID on 3DS or Wii U. In no way does this mean that Nintendo is actively working to take down the eShops on its older platforms immediately, however.

Also included in the notice, Nintendos support team included the following ways users can still transfer money to their NNID accounts on the two older systems.

  • Utilize a prepaid Nintendo eShop card
  • Codes will still be redeemable on both 3DS and Wii U
  • Link your NNID with your overall Nintendo account
  • This will allow you to purchase software using your existing balance, credit card, PayPal, and prepaid Nintendo eShop cards
  • Link your NNID with your Nintendo account that is connected to a Nintendo Switch

This will involve the use of Pokémon Bank, the previous system used to store and trade Pokémon up until Gen 7. THIS FEATURE IS ONLY AVAILABLE WITH POKÉMON HOMES PREMIUM PLAN.

You can find out more information on the official Pokémon Bank website, but as a rule, once youve moved Pokémon from earlier Gens to Pokémon Bank, they cant be transferred back, so make sure youre happy losing them from your original games. The following infographic from the Pokémon Bank website shows which games permit deposits-only or deposits and withdrawals, but remember: TRANSFERS FROM POKÉMON BANK TO POKÉMON HOME ARE ONE-WAY ONLY:

The 3DS app has an annual fee of $4.99, but for the first month of Pokémon HOME, users can access Pokémon Bank free-of-charge, so theres no time like the present if youre eager to move all your Pokémon to the latest storage system.

Here are some details from the lovely Alex with regards to the convoluted process of transferring your legacy Pokémon up the daisy chain into Pokémon Bank and, from there, to Pokémon HOME. Over to Alex:

Since Pokemon Sword and Shield, and Pokemon Lets Go Pikachu and Lets Go Eevee are on the Nintendo Switch, the process for transferring Pokemon from those games to Pokemon Home is considerably easier. Be wary that while Pokemon from Lets Go can be moved to Sword and Shield, they cant then be transferred back to Lets Go only Sword and Shield have the ability to transfer to and fro.

On Pokemon Home as long as youre using it on the same Nintendo Switch console as your Pokemon Sword and Shield or Pokemon Lets Go save files select Pokemon from the main menu. This will display your relevant save files, and selecting either one will show your Pokemon Home boxes on the left along with your in-game boxes on the right. Drag and drop any Pokemon you like from one to the other, then hit + to save. Any Pokemon that arent currently in the Pokemon Sword and Shield Pokedex cannot be brought forward into it though.

Thats all there is to it! A seriously convoluted process if you want to bring forward some of your oldest Pokemon, but worth it to have your best pals with you in the latest games. Hopefully, when Gen 9 eventually rolls around, Nintendo will stick with the Pokemon Home service to keep things simple!

Transferring Pokemon from the 3DS to the Switch!

Pokémon Bank is an application on the Nintendo 3DS where you can store your Pokémon. You can withdraw them to your Nintendo 3DS later or transfer them to newer generation Pokémon games like Pokémon Sword and Shield on the Nintendo Switch. Pokémon Bank is a paid service that costs $4.99 USD for an entire year, billed annually. You can cancel at any time.

You can store up to 3,000 Pokémon in the Pokémon Bank application, and transfers from Pokémon Bank to Pokémon Home are one-way only. Once you have moved your Pokémon from the Nintendo 3DS to Pokémon Home on the Nintendo Switch, you cannot transfer them back into Pokémon Bank on the Nintendo 3DS.

To get started, you will need a Nintendo 3DS Pokémon game cartridge inserted into your Nintendo 3DS installed on your Nintendo 3DS.

Pokémon Bank is compatible with the following games:

    • Pokémon X
    • Pokémon Ultra Sun
    • Pokémon Ultra Moon

Next, download Pokémon Bank from the Nintendo eShop on your Nintendo 3DS. The application is free to download, and you must be connected to the internet. Its also a good idea to plug your console into a power adapter while making changes.

After youve launched Pokémon Bank, you will see a message saying Your pass has expired. Would you like to purchase a new pass? Select Yes. The subscription is a 365-day pass for $4.99 USD, and your subscription will automatically cancel after one year.

How Do You Transfer Pokemon From Pokemon Bank To Pokemon Home

You can transfer Pokemon from the Pokemon Bank easily. You just need to make sure your Nintendo Network ID from the 3DS console your bank is located on is linked to the Nintendo Account youre logged into your Switch or the phone app with.

On the Switch Pokemon Home app, the process is simple. Just follow the prompts, and your Pokemon will transfer from the bank to Home.

On mobile the option is a bit hidden:

  • Tap the hamburger menu icon on the bottom of the screen
  • Select Options
  • Tap Move Pokemon
  • Youll get the selection here to either use a 3DS or select No Nintendo 3DS. I found it easier to go with the No Nintendo 3DS option. It will just automatically transfer any Pokemon stored on the Pokemon Bank of the Nintendo Network ID you have linked to your Nintendo Account. The process can take a bit, depending on how many Pokemon you have in the bank. When its complete, all your Pokemon will be moved to Pokemon Home, and youre good to go!

I need to transfer some Pokemon from Soul Silver to Sun. However I don’t have Black or another DS/3DS to trade to. I was suggested to try out PKHEX and PKSM but PKHEX only works on emulator based saves from what I’ve understood and I haven’t been able to do more than try some event injections through PKSM onto my Soul Silver cart that have remained unsuccessful I guess. Is there any other way or any other software that I should use or am I missing something important here?

Link Your Pokmon Bank With Pokmon Home

pokemon home how to transfer older pokemon to nintendo scaled

Once youre finished with the transfer, youll need to link your Pokémon Bank account on 3DS to your phone, Nintendo Switch, or whichever device you have the Home app installed on. I used the Home app on my Android phone, but this process is similar on the Switch.

    • First off, ensure that your Nintendo Account is linked to the Home app. It asks you to do that when you first run it, but you can link it manually in the settings by tapping the menu button on the bottom of the screen. Since you need to link your account on the Switch before you can download apps from the eShop, youll already be linked if youre using the Switch app.
    • Then select Options on the next screen if youre using the mobile app.
    • While youre still on the Options screen, youll need to convert to being a paying customer to link your Bank to Home. The minimum is a $2.99 monthly fee to keep the service running.
    • You dont have to keep paying once youve finished the transfer, but keeping your subscription active will give you more space to save pokémon and give you access to the other perks .
    • After you subscribe, open Pokémon Bank on your 3DS. Tap the Move Pokémon to Pokémon Home button on the main menu.
    • If you have the Home app installed on a phone or tablet, click Move Pokémon in the Options menu. On the Switch, click the 3DS symbol on the main screen.
    • In the Home app, youll be presented with a Moving Key that you have to input on your 3DS to initiate the transfer.

How To Transfer Pokmon To Nintendo Switch: Everything From Gen I To Gen Viii

Playing Pokémon games is a great experience that many of us have experienced in our childhood. Meeting and working alongside you Pokémon, growing stronger together and overcoming adversity at the end of a long journey are things we end up growing very nostalgic for. Some grow attached to their Pokémon and want to take them on more adventures, similar to the characters in the anime series. If you’re that kind of person, this guide is for you. It’s possible to keep your Pokémon with you, no matter what generation they were caught in, but some transfers are more tricky than others.

Given that various remakes of past generations of Pokémon have been released, we’ll be sorting this guide by console instead of by generation. Virtual Console games on the Nintendo 3DS will be sorted with the sixth and seventh generation of games, despite belonging to the first and second generations themselves.

Remember: With any Pokémon games from Generation I to Generation V, there lies the possibility that your game may be counterfeit if you bought it secondhand. Counterfeit games are not guaranteed to function correctly, even if you can play the game, so your save data may be corrupted or lost. We recommend that you check to see if your Pokémon game is genuine before following this guide. Nintendo 3DS games cannot be counterfeited, so those will always be genuine.
